October 6, 20223 yr Wesley Fofana suffered a knee sprain. The duration of unavailability is still uncertain but doctors estimate that it will be around a month. The Blues recruit, observed by the #Chelsea staff, can, in this context, still dream of the World Cup in Qatar. (via @lequipe)

There's no point rushing back when you have more opportunities if you just take care of yourself better
October 6, 20223 yr I was fearing a lot worse so I am relieved about that. Especially with the injury he has had before, I just feared the worst possible news.
October 7, 20223 yr I actually don't think Chalobah is a drop off in quality compared to Fofana with how they've both performed in Chelsea shirts.

October 10, 20223 yr Fof needs to learn to tackle in a way that is less prone to injury. He sticks his long leg in in a way that its bound to get injured or broken or both. Clearly quick and tall and quite good on the ball and probably a few less mistakes in him than Trev

As he actually did by scoring. He made a couple of runs and that second one got him injured. Anyway it will be a couple of months until he can expect of doing something like that again...
October 14, 20223 yr Graham Potter has said it is very unlikely he plays for us again before the world cup. So that basically ends his hopes of going to it. We will likely find out if it is the same for Reece and Kante over the next few days.
November 7, 20223 yr Potter told us that Wes will be back in 4-6 weeks exactly 4 weeks ago. Does anyone have any updates about his situation? Is he back from Dubai? I know that he was there with Reece and Reece was at the Bridge yestarday.
November 8, 20223 yr When Fofana is back are we likely to see us go back to a back 3? I really want to see us stick with a back 4.

I hope we stick with back 4 but i won't be surprised if we don't. Expect the unexpected with Potter. By the way i thought fofana transfer was a bit odd too tbh with his previous injury. I hope it works out but i have my reservations about fofana too atm.

We signed Fofana and Koulibaly, both of whom featured in a 4 at their previous clubs, on opposite sides, so it seemed to me as if it was intended they would become the starting central pair, with Chalobah and Thiago Silva as the back ups. The other thing that makes me think 4 was the plan and not 5, is that we only have 8 defenders in our 25 man squad. Having 8 for a back 5 does not provide sufficient cover, as we are seeing at the moment with Fofana, James and Chilwell all out, and Koulibaly not 100%. It leads to daft stuff like playing Sterling at wing back ... 🙂 8 players for a back 4 looks right though, and harks back to Ranieri's "two champions for every position" etc etc ...

It was Mourinho actually in reference to signing the likes of Ferreira and Tiago when young English players like Glen Johnson and Scott Parker were establishing themselves

Here is a reference from an Independent article dated 16th May 2004, which is before Mourinho joined Chelsea 🙂 https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/southgate-fears-weaken-case-for-sven-s-defence-563605.html

I believe the eight you’re referring to are Thiago, Dave, Trev, Fofana, Double K, James, Cucurella and Chilwell. You’ve forgotten our extensive wing-back list though; Sterling, Pulisic, RLC, Ziyech, Kepa, Havertz, Broja, Mendy, Mount, Zakaria etc.

December 20, 20223 yr Came off injured in the friendly today. Feel for him but what a disaster class this signing has been so far, £75m to keep the physios and medical team busy; Leicester parting ways with damaged goods.
