November 12, 20223 yr Well we did a lot better than I thought. Key couple of minutes though with Pope being allowed to produce a good save from Gallaghers weak shot and they go down the other end and Mendy does not read the shot. Was not a great hit in my opinion Pope saves that at the other end.

If it’s a weak shot how can it be a good save? maybe Gallagher could’ve put his foot through it a bit more but it was still a decent effort nonetheless. To call Willock’s shot not a great hit is harsh imo. He’s caught it really well with a fair amount of pace and whip. I’ve been critical of Mendy on here but not a great deal he could’ve done for that goal.

Good reading of the game. Mendy did not offer that. Maybe he does not save it if he does read it to be fair.
November 12, 20223 yr I don’t think we need to get a new song ready! At the moment it would be We got super Graham Potter. He doesn’t know who we need. some one at the back, some one in attack, Chelsea gonna win Champions league. 2 3 4……
November 12, 20223 yr Judging by what it’s like when I come on here post match to read the reviews… thank f**k I haven’t watched a Chelsea game since September!
November 12, 20223 yr Running out of words to describe how poor this team has developed in the past few weeks. Had 1 real shot on goal, the rest of the game just scrambling in defence, not controlling possession, no passing or movement, right now our level is a promoted team. If there's any other manager had 2 points of 5 games, be marching out of the training ground, unfortunately we done the firing already. Players are already left for world cup, probably couple of weeks ago. I'm sure Potter and his fans will find lots of positives and 'trust the process', if you set expectation low enough you usually find something positive, e.g we played couple of youth, Pullisic is running a bit faster, we only lost via 1 goal.
November 12, 20223 yr As I said, Potter has an obsession about playing it out from the back. Kepa is reasonably OK at that. Mendy isn't. Will Potter adapt depending on who's in goal? Will he f**k!
November 12, 20223 yr Well I did say we were on to go in to the break 16 points behind Arsenal. That is how truly cr@p we are now.
November 12, 20223 yr As each match goes by the players look a little more lost and a bit less confident. The constant changing of personnel and formation isn't allowing anyone to work within a secure framework. I know we have a long list of injuries but surely this should change Potters approach. Stop changing the lineup so much. Wholesale changes prevent a pattern of play from crystallising. I didn't want Potter from the first but was prepared to give him a chance. How ever you dress it up its not going well and from what I can see there's no sign of potential for a positive change. I don't know who the bloke in his ear on the sideline is but he looks like a panic merchant. I can't see this ending well. It's been a very bad day and I'm really upset by todays performance. If Kante, James, Chilwell and Fofana were all available the narrative would probably be different so I'll give Potter bit more time. We'll see how the new regime deal with this but I suspect they're not much different to the last one and they may well be tempted if any decent managers become available during the World Cup .

Would love it if you’re right but this one feels different. I’ve decided to slash my expectations completely, focus more on the things that matter. At the end of the day, this is a sideshow. A circus. If we’re honest with ourselves, we (football fans) all made a Faustian pact somewhere down the line. There was a time when it wasn’t ONLY about money. And now? We were in a sense the pioneers. The first petrodollar-backed premier league club. We became the team to beat. There was only one reason why and no prizes for guessing it. But we then inspired other much bigger players. The UEA said “hold my beer”. Man City happened. soon enough they started winning it all with a few token wins/runs of success from us and Liverpool. They cook the books to get around financial fair play. And if it doesn’t work, they get the most expensive lawyers that money can buy and get to play in all the competitions . And now? Saudi fxcking Arabia. Just let that sink in. This has taken things to a level that should have always been impossible to imagine let alone to realise. It’s an abomination. If this is allowed to stand, they will be the ones winning everything. But this isnt the UEA. This is Saudi Arabia!! Not only the biggest petrostate but a sick regime that engages in beheading and flogging. If there’s anything positive to have come out of all this, at least we are now firmly on the other side of that fence. If this isn’t stopped, the premier league is going to hell.

We’ve had a lot of average players and average coaches since the 80’s. There have been a few exceptional people but even under Roman we only averaged 3rd place. This group is pretty mediocre in comparison and supporters need to adjust expectations. After the poor summer signings this season had 2015-16 written all over it and that is probably where we are headed. Hopefully Boehly supports Potter’s choices in January and hopefully we offload some of Tuchel’s picks.
November 12, 20223 yr We came from afar, we lost but we still enjoyed the day. We’re sh*t, so what? Care free we’re the famous CFC! Newcastle weren’t that good either, I thought that with all the hype they’d walk all over us. I don’t think they did. On the positive, to be fair, Potter had some balls to play Hall and he did well. I don’t think the lineup matters that much nowadays, it doesn’t matter who plays, they are not that good bar a few exceptions. The month of no footy will do the team and Potter good, or not, but it’s very welcome. It’s great to see all the Scottish contingent, which accounts for the majority of the supporters here every time I come.

November 13, 20223 yr Not sure who to blame here..GP for bringing us down to the old Brighton level of football, or the players who show very little fight and determination let alone the basics of being able to pass a ball or create anything other than a break away for the opposition...or are they are downing tools? I have never witnessed so many of our players receiving the ball facing our own goal, no wonder we can't create anything or even move forward, everything has to go backwards for someone to boot the ball wildly into the opposition's half and give them the ball back. This has to be down to GP, although even under TT we were appalling at playing out from the back. WTF happened to Mendy in the last 12 months...hero to clown. Panic, panic, panic every time the ball came back to him it was a calamity giving the defence no confidence what so ever. We do not have one attacking player in this team that can take on a defender, each and every time they run into a brick wall, or the ball gets stuck in their feet or they are bundled off the ball. What happened to wingers like Robben and Duff? The WC may bring some respite but I just don't see this sh*t show ending anytime soon even after the break. Miss out on Europe and the Yanks will be losing sh*t load of dosh and will be forced to rethink their strategy.

November 13, 20223 yr At least we've learnt we can start playing the game in stoppage time! GP is proving what I thought before he even put pen to paper that he is so out of his depth. I don't really blame him, all he needed to do was sign his name for a huge payout either way, the guy has a family and bills to pay for. I blame the people that thought it'd be a great idea to employ and offer a lengthy contract. I think we should go for Alun Armstrong next and really go balls to the wall! Anyone that thinks we're going to attract great players in the next window, filling up rumour threads with lavish European names; you need to join me in putting money on Pulisic to score!
November 13, 20223 yr Terrible game. I'm going to consider anyone that wants to give Potter time as trolls or wums Now Potter has a month to figure out how he's going to work the team whether it's fitness, finesse or formation because if he still hasn't figured what his Chelsea is going to be, he should be sacked.
November 13, 20223 yr Absolute bullocks of a game.. GP can’t set up a team.. he his indicative of a lot what is wrong with today’s world .. great smooth talkers but very little substance
November 13, 20223 yr Todd made a really foolish decision and the consequences are clear for all to see.
November 13, 20223 yr At least we now have a month with no defeats Just the usual underwhelming performances from England, followed by the papers all saying we’re potential World Cup winners and then crash out in the knock out stages
November 13, 20223 yr Top 4 is becoming an impossible mission. Like many people have stated here, if losing is part of a project then I'm okay with it, but there is still a way to lose games. We were looking very dreadful, no attacking plan, we actually had 5 in the back but we were too open in defense. Possession from the back is the only thing that I could get in this game, but then we failed to create anything. No matter what we can stop supporting, but difficult period has began. COME ON CHELS!!!

Heading towards this opinion as well. I desperately want this to work, I want us to create footballers playing an attractive style as a unit, not signing a bunch of self absorbed media icons that can't actually cut it. For this whole philosophy and personnel to change its going to take time so having patience with a new, creative thinking coach makes absolute sense. I also get the "not the coaches players" theme as well. But that is pretty standard fare in this game. TT took on a team that needed to score 3 goals a game just to get a draw and with the same players went 50 games or so unbeaten keeping a record number of clean sheets in that time. Not his players but playing to his style. Potter had a three week period at the beginning to work solely on the training ground. Of course the programme is hectic and we have had injuries, but he and his foaches have had time to work with this squad. But, we're not failing whilst implementing a style, we're not developing a change and making occasional errors. We actually have no pattern whatsoever. Potters apparent inability to play an attractive attacking style whilst maintaining possession, seems to be manifesting itself into an intentional transition to a counter attacking style but as most of the players are unfit we have ended up playing a Muhammed Ali style of Rope-a-dope of covering up as best that we can in the hope the opposition tire and then try to score with one or two efforts all game. Its awful. No pattern, no style, no "process" visible. I have said it for years that possession based football breeds laziness and unfitness. Possession football substitutes effort, tempo, fitness and energy for control, touch, vision and passing. In order for it to work you must have the latter traits. We do not have these and now we have a group of unfit players incapable and disinclined to achieve the first set of traits. It's woeful and I am really not sure if Potter has the stones to put on his big pants and ship out the dross in order to move to the style he wants. Hell I still can't see what this style is supposed to be.
