August 21, 20241 yr This sterling thing is another good example of the club being badly run above him. Clearly the club have decided he isn't worth his wages, and that is actually totally fair enough. What is far from ideal is that it's obvious that they've made this call very late. So now you have a player who expected to be involved this season (leaving aside his statement and the timing of it, which we can all agree wasn't right) being told just before the season by the coach he isn't in his plans shortly after the same coach has told him he would be. You have a coach who was planning his season with the player expected to be part of that, and acting accordingly. Then, probably late last week someone tells the coach that actually we want to get rid because he is costing us too much each week - no doubt the same reason our best keeper, kepa, is persona non grata. But the decision with kepa was obviously taken before maresca even was appointed (as it should have been), because it's a financial decision not a sporting one. Why then have the sporting directors taken this decision so late in the day, and why are they forcing their own newly appointed head coach to deal with the problems they have created? Why make him say the decision is a sporting one, which only undermines his credibility when you compare sterling (who has played well under a stylistically similar coach) to mudryk who appears to be still in the process of learning some of the basics? It's like why would you hire graham potter, then hire a completely different type of manager in pochettino, only to swing back to maresca? What is the point of having these guys running the club if they can't do the absolute basics of coach and squad recruitment?
August 21, 20241 yr If we can somehow make a profit on Disasi then these owners might just be onto something with this strategy.

Problem is if either Disasi/Badiashile leave I could see the SDs going for Joe Gomez instead of reinstating Chalobah or giving Acheampong more playing time. They just can’t help themselves.

I don't think we'll see any of these exit decisions being reversed either. Maresca does seem to like Acheampong, so he may get some minutes at some point this season.

Think its mainly down to needing club trained players under UEFA guidelines.

They just can’t help themselves. That is certainly a concern. If we were to get an acceptable offer for Disasi the smartest move would be to then give Chalobah a contract extension. He is young enough and could still be sold on for 100% profit in years ahead if needed, and he is already an established squad member that could provide great cover immediately.

August 21, 20241 yr We’ll probably see a £20/30m signing of a random Newcastle youth player they don’t need in January or next summer if this goes through. 😅
August 23, 20241 yr I thought he was going to be sold and then he was in the starting team last night. Was rubbish together with Badiashille. Sell them both and keep Chalobah.

August 23, 20241 yr Lost his smile and confidence he usually plays with, not his biggest fan but it must have been hard for him to be dropped like that. You could see last night that he was not in a great mood.
September 15, 20241 yr I have no idea how any manager can look at this guy and think that he has a place in a team that has aspirations to play it out from the back. I genuinely think that managers must be stupid if they think Disasi can be that player. He is an athlete, a unit and a danger on corners - but that's it. I have him down as a kurt zouma esque CB that would do ok for team that sit back. Everton. West ham. Forest etc. However he should not be anywhere near the pitch for us, other than as a pure emergency gap filler when seeing out a game. And he certainly shouldn't be played out wide. f**k me he is bad. ....better than jackson though.

Funnily enough I do actually think his passing is fine but the problem is it takes so long for him to get the ball under control and/or to actually play the pass.

He’s strong as they come, but so slow and labored when running, or rather chasing back. Probably immense in a true back 3, but not in our current system. Pace covers all manner of sins and without woefully exposed.
September 15, 20241 yr Alfie Gilchrist kept Tottenham and Son quiet and showed confidence and energy when he played right back against them. We loan him out probably looking to eventually sell him. Disasi looked terrified at RB playing up against Tavernier. We won't get away with it again, I hope Enzo M learnt something last night.

I think Enzo the Elder might try him in central midfield next.

Sorry, Jim, I was distracted by the dog throwing up her breakfast, I didn't get to finish reading your post. Did you manage to squeeze in a shot at Jacko?
September 16, 20241 yr How much longer are we stuck with him for? Chalobah forced out and him staying is an insult to Chelsea fans.
