Sanchez doesn't have any confidence in his own ability, so why should anyone else?

He will make the odd good save. Have the odd good game. But a top class keeper has consistency, confidence, good communication and organisational ability. Sanchez has none of those things.

Surely penders plays league cup game. If he is vaguely competent , might get kept for league games?

Martinez has been error prone in recent seasons, however he is a lot better than Sanchez and would provide a lot more reassurance amongst the defence. Please, please pursue the move. Will be relatively cheap considering they already bought Suzuki. Sanchez was good at catching a lot of the crosses but those 2 goals conceded are just basic and a time when we could have extended our lead only for those silly errors to bring them back in the game. Luckily we got 3 points but we cannot keep persisting with him now. Get the cheque book out. Look how ruthless Arsenal were with Ramsdale when they wanted Raya and it paid off. Having a top keeper is integral.

I think Martinez mentality alone improves the defence and team overall. I just don’t get how a keeper can be this erratic. Let’s the ball run out for a corner while Kicking the ground.

Should not get beat at this near post and pushes the ball out in the centre of the goal.

I have defended him a lot but without a good keeper all the hard work from ghe attackers will be for nothing

City and Arsenal faced similar issues, replaced their no1 keepers at the time and never looked back.

Time for us to step up and Alonso to put his foot down.

What's really wound me up isn't just at how badly he messed up tonight, but he scares the whole team. That attacking display was one of the best attacking performances I've seen from us in years, but the players couldn't push on and lead us to a 3/4-0 win, we gave up 61% possession because the team had no confidence in Sanchez so at times we had to sit back.

Best example IMO is Ferguson signing van der Sar in 2006 - instant upgrade for Vidic/Ferdinand as opposed to Roy Carroll

So little noise around goalkeeper. All the players we have been linked with and we stick with Sanchez for fear a new keeper blocks Penders?

Sanchez has to go. He'd find ways to even stop PSG winning things if he was their keeper.

Bigger problem is that virtually every keeper in the world is 'error-prone' these days. All of the keepers at top clubs seem prone to ridiculous errors and world-class games. Raya, Donnarumma, Alisson have all had high-profile errors but they just seem to have less consequence than Sanchez's for some reason.

Unless we are able to entice Jan Oblak, I don't think anyone is going to be a massive upgrade on paper, but I wonder if it would just be worth it to quell the mental noise that happens every time Sanchez is looking unsteady.

An accident waiting to happen every game. Just has mental lapses and makes so many mistakes that change games. Shouldn’t be this difficult

Sanchez errors are way too frequent. Both goals especially the first was diabolical and letting the ball go out for a corner, sheesh!

Cech at Chelsea (although I loved Cudicini)

It feels like every fan, pundit and player knows Sanchez isn't up to the job as Chelsea's number 1 and yet we're stuck with him again. If we don't sign another keeper in the next week I fear our title chances are over before they've begun.

I honestly don’t understand why he plays, throw £15m at Villa and Martinez would come and still keep Penders as a long term investment.

I do wonder whether Villa might even go in for a swap on that front. I definitely think we should be angling for a loan deal. Have to assume Jacko is going there on deadline day.

I’m sorry I can’t agree with this. Yes all goalkeepers make mistakes but none as frequently as Sanchez.

He was at fault for both goals, gave away a corner in a manner you wouldn’t see at a under 14’s match and gave away a chance by standing in no man’s land which thankfully the Fulham player lobbed wide of the goal or it would have been 3-3.

This is all in one match!

There isn’t another professional goalkeeper that has such an eventful game. We could have drawn a game where we were clearly the better side.

He’s rubbish and a liability and I’m honestly prepared to debate this anyone who sticks up for him.

It’s not a secret that he’s a weak link. Fans know it, opposition players know it, pundits know it and I’m 100% sure our own defenders know it.

Honestly, getting in a competent goalkeeper in the short term and a top goalkeeper in the long term would make such a difference to us it’s obvious, to me anyway.

I’m not having Sanchez at all, Dave Beasant was run out of this club for much less!

It’s staggering that he gets game time.

Saw his best and worst sides last night once again. He looked terrified before kick off. beaten on his near post like a child in goal. Then takes pressure crosses and does the basics well after the error imo.

Interesting to see what Alonso does.

Last nights was just Goalkeeper basics as well for both goals.

His positioning for the first is bizarre, leaving that much of your near post exposed. It’s like beginner level stuff.

The second goal, is it not the first thing you’re taught to never put the ball back into the danger zone ie your 6 yard box.

Then that horrific miss when he just stood in no mans land, didn’t come out to close, didn’t retreat back his line. Just stood there.

It’s uncoachable at this stage of his career and will just undermine us all season.

Were lights out going forward, we’ll be a lot more solid with Caicedo back. But as long as Sanchez is between the sticks every club will fancy their chances against us.

It's funny, Sanchez will often pull off some incredible saves which make me think that yeah, he's got mental moments of decision making but as a shotstopper he's very good.

Then he goes and does what he did last night. Jeez that was painful. Even the best keepers make mistakes but two mistakes (and a few more which didn't lead to goals) is not good enough.

It's like he was scared tonight, scared of making mistakes, scared of the new manager. A mate of mine is a league 1 keeper who played with Sanchez as a junior and said that growing up, Sanchez was just so dominant - in the air, as shotstopper, passing, a complete player. When he looks at his performances now, he says there is so much doubt in Sanchez's mind throughout a game, which you absolutely cannot have at the top level. Any hesitation can lead to a goal.

Sanchez has been a problem for as long as he's been here, but I think it's come to a head now that the rest of the side looks like it might be improving. When they were all sh*t it didn't seem to matter quite so much. But now there's a feeling that with a decent coach/manager and some better players added means Sanchez is a real threat to ourselves. And he went out of his way to demonstrate that last night. And I really just cannot see that he gets better from here. I have my doubts about some (most) of our defenders, but I think there's hope that most of them can get better. Sanchez, no chance.

It’s a difficult situation for the club as he will be hard to move on plus you’ve got the added complexity of not wanting to stall Penders development.

Penders is still too young to become our number one and we likely end up with the same situation of errors.

Ben Roberts. Get him out of the club and Sanchez will go as well.

As long as he's here Sanchez will be our #1.

Having watched Sanchez for some time now I'm fairly confident it's a mental issue. He's a good shot stopper and if things go well he is capable of having solid stretches when seemingly he's doing well and looks in control. But he's also always one brainfart move away from completely losing his confidence and then it becomes an issue not just for him bit for the whole team.

Too many mistakes that cost the team time and again. We have to make a desicion, either trust Penders to be the first choice, or go for someone assured and experienced, because sticking with Sanchez after everything we've witnessed over the years is a crime.
