West Ham v Chelsea (PL) Sun 20th Aug 2023 16:30 GMT

Not sure what was said at half time but Moyes got the reaction that Poch didnt

First half we were very pleasing on the eye ... matches though are defined by taking a grip of them when you are in the ascendancy

The penalty miss was decisive

Chucky injury was very unlucky, good goal and decent performance but it was also to unleash Mudryk on the team

Second half we were simply awful, headless chickens, we made it easy for them with poor decisions all over the pitch

Lets face it if this was a rival we'd be laughing at them

Improvement needed and a big reaction on Friday

Sterling by far the best player on the pitch for us today and there's one word comes to mind and that's experience. Young players go missing frequently and the second half showed that. We saw no fight to get the goal, everyone was waiting for someone to step up and do something.

Im fully expecting a season of ups and downs but we've spent a lot of money so these young players need to step up in tough situations quicker than usual.

Not having a pop at Mudryk, he showed himself to get in good positions even though he fluffed his lines numerous times. He has to start next game to give him some confidence infront of goal and my biggest issue is our presence in the box and I know confidence is high on Jacksons but i forgot he was playing second half until he got the player sent off.

Not gonna stress about it too much. Plenty games left but i still believe we should of bought 2 or 3 older heads who will roll the sleeves up and drive guys on when its really needed. All very well signing alot of young guys who look world class when its going well but shrink away when you find yourselves down a goal. I still would of took a punt on Verratti

If we are to finish 5-6th we will lose about 10 games this season. This was the first.

Dream on. I had us 8th and now I am thinking that was too high. A fresh new injury every week and the same weaknesses from last season. Some of these players we have thrown silly money at look terrible.

Last season was excruciating and there is no sign that any progress has been made.

Every team outside of the top 6 is going to play like this against us now. It's hard not to be pessimistic.

We played well against Liverpool and had a good first half, there's definitely some progress. If people were expecting us to put 3 goals in every week then they should go watch City. We're still a work in progress.

A terrible half of football after plenty of encouragement in the first half. Turning point was the last few mins of first half with the injury to Carney and the penalty miss.

Unfortunately I full expect to see a few days like this as we try to settle in this new look squad. But I still have some major concerns about where our goals will come from. It was our biggest problem last season and looks like it will be again this season.

Playing a system that struggled for goals and had us finished 12 certainly isn't the answer. No idea why we are changing our system for f**king West Ham. Poch is better than that.

I'm genuinely curious though are we playing a back 5 so one CB can baby sit Silva or are there genuine midfield concerns, because Disasi was literally holding hands with Silva the entire match.

My concern with this team is our defence at this time. we look way to open and vulnerable. anyone can score goals against us.we basically create goals for our opposition ourselves. I think we will improve in midfield and in attack, but defence looks too inexperienced and weak at this time. If Silva gets injured nothing will save this team.

This ones on Poch and last week too as Liverpool were there for the taking. I dont know the obsession with playing 5 at the back its so negative and sends a message that were not good enough to play with 4 and more in attack.

Spend a billion, but none of the players we have bought in are better than what we already had apart from Enzo.

Liverpool are looking terrible too and that fixture has some weird voodoo on it making it a sure fire draw.

West Ham penned in with 20% possession, down to 10 men and half an hour left to play. Poch decides to bring on Caicedo, whose strengths are launching counters and beating an opposition press. wtf was he thinking?

Now the boy’s confidence is shot for the next game. Dreadful management.

What an abysmal afternoon.  We've so far to go to be competitive, but its basic things that really bug me:

  • Team selection / setup.  Perhaps it was who was fit and in any sort of form, but as said before, why play one way all preseason, then revert to back 3.  We sent the wrong message with this selection
  • Mistakes - the most predictable, basic errors occur week after week.  Teams just need to hang in there, as our naivety will gift chances
  • Finishing - we have no goals, simple as.  Last 40 PL games we've scored 40 goals.  Even if you go back further, to Dec 16 2021, we've scored 78 in 62 games, or 1.25 goals per game in almost the last two years
  • Injuries - at the end of the day, 5-10 first team players persistently injured will limit any real competitiveness

I think the only three players worth mentioning today are Carney, Sterling and Silva.

We've a massive target on our back primarily due to spending.  We're a cup final every week, and these players better get up for it.

We will play well against teams that try to match us. Liverpool, Man City, Man  Utd, possibly Spurs. The rest will sit deep and counter. If we don't score first and score early expect another 20+ games like this

Just watching this on about a 20min delay. What a dreadful second half. One positive, Sterling is still a good player, other than that, absolute crap.

Two big glaring issues, Mudryk needs to up his game. Goalkeeper is a downgrade on Kepa.

Lost composure after their 2nd, passing accuracy went to sh*t, no attempts from outside the box, misunderstandings and miscalculations as if it is norm, losing physical battles - and the result was certain, even when they lost a man.  However, I am optimistic and fully expect things to improve over the course of the season. At least I enjoyed watching the two games and only shouted at the screen "you useless f**king c**t" only a dozen times, which is massive improvement compared to last season!

We dominated them first half and should have been at least 1 goal in front.

Second half was 50/50. We should have won, but if you can't score from 12 yards it's a problem.

We're an incredibly young team, we can't expect too much. Best thing we can do is get behind the lads. Onto the next game. Come on Chels!!

I keep seeing people say we can't expect much, but what does that mean? What can we expect, to never win any game of football? because that game should have been an easy win by half time. We can't spend the money we have spent and finish without any European football.

Liverpool just won 3-1. I wish we could look terrible and win a game 3-1. Liverpool are still better than us, Salah alone means they will push for top 4.

I f**king hate losing to west ham but now that I've simmered down we were always likely to get results like this early on. Inexperienced and young team playing naively. Chalk it up to experience and move on. Hopefully some lessons learned.

Sanchez - Not much he did wrong today

Gusto - Inconsistent

Disasi - I think ok not terrible not great, did what I would expect for the second goal just a good shot from antonio.

Silva - Solid as usual

Colwill - Poor I thought for the second game in a row, at fault for second goal imo.

Chilly - Solid, shame he went off I think we lost some momentum once he went down.

Enzo - Really poor, quality the last game but after the pk miss he was a shadow. Needs to seriously get his head in the game and not drop like that in future, the team lives and dies by the engine of midfield and if he has a bad game like that we are always likely to struggle.

Gallagher - Solid if unspectacular

Sterling - Best game in a while thought he was electric but faded in the second half.

Chuk - Played well, shame about the injury

Jackson - A handful but after Chuk went down I felt he lost impact.

Mudryk - He was making runs but Colwill really didn't want to risk the pass, feel like chilly and him would have a great impact but Poch isn't willing to commit to this. Otherwise below average.

Caicedo - Horror performance but I think this ones on poch, he clearly wasn't fit or ready for this game hence not starting so throwing him on was a mistake, he looked way off the pace which is unsurprising given he barely played in preseason.

Noni - Thought he was ok but quite a few poor crosses.

Anyway as soon as West ham went down to 10 I knew the game was done, they would shut up shop and try a simple counter and that's exactly what they did. It's early days and I know the doomsayers will be on here complaining and saying all hope is lost, that's fine and they are entitled to do that but I'm not sure if people were genuinely expecting us to start the season flawlessly with so many new players, a new coach and a really young and inexperienced team. Losing Nkunku, James and Chuk today hasn't helped either.

Oh and PS I really really hope that f**king c**t paqueta gets the book thrown at him, I've never wanted to punch a player in the face as much as I did him today...sorry...rant over...but...he's a prick 😛
