Poch In or Out? The Mega-thread Merged

Featured Replies

Out. Again. That was a bottle job of a performance. Hardly laid a glove on a bunch of inexperienced kids. The finishing at the club is comically bad. These are all down to the manager.

As much as I want him gone immediately, if this week we did a Tuchel/Bayern situation where we announced he's off at the end of the season I'd take it. For me, there's no coming back from that game and the comments after the game was just the nail in the coffin. He isn't right for this club and he never will be.

Out. Firmly out.

Give him the rest of the season and work to find a replacement. No use sacking him now.

Disagree.

We should get in a replacement now to work with the players for the rest of the season. Try and end the season on a high, there's no use going for a top top manager as we need to get someone in who's up and coming and has a style of play.

I also think there's going to be a few top jobs available in the summer so we need to steal a march on them.

I dont even think alot of this is on him but the team needs a new voice and ideas to get them playing. I'd sack the board but hey ho what can you do.

Genuinely no one available immediately apart from Flick.

Don’t forget that Tuchel was also the one that wanted Sterling!

He wasn't involved with transfers other than telling the club the profile of player he was looking for. It was down to the club to find those players and sign them.

I always think this is such a weird thing to attack Tuchel with when it's widely known that the reason why he didn't get on with the new owners was because he didn't like to be as involved in signing players as they wanted him to be.

What profile do you think he put forward for Aubameyang?

I find it weird that anyone would believe that a top flight manager didn't have any say whatsoever on the players who were going to be signed to play under them.

I would be on the phone tonight with his agents.

I like Pochettino but I think he's putting on a front and he knows we're sh*t. Out of all the money we've spent id say Gusto, Palmer and Petrovic have been successful when considering the fees. Sadly this mess isn't going away any time soon and we are in for the long haul so we need to keep throwing managers at it until it sticks.

We could have just kept all our cobham players and we would have been in a better position than we are now. The ownership literally did not have to change anything but they came in and decided they know best.

Literally they have given a lesson on what not to do when you buy a football club.

Was on the fence and hadn't voted until now. The eye test says not good enough when it really matters. I love being proven wrong, but with Xavi, Zidane, Flick, Tuchel, Conte & Mourinho all available from the summer it's hard to argue Pochettino is better than any of these.

Would any of these even want to come here, with the current ownership probably not but we need a coach of this level. With fumbled Enrique and Nagelsmann when we should have been biting their hands off. The board don't know what they're doing so we should be trying to get in a top manager who does. Shame their egos won't allow this.

Madness. None of those managers would come here again or do well.

Why do you find it weird? This is the case with a lot of managers. You really think a coach has time to train his players every day and also fly all over the world to watch every team in Europe to find the exact footballer they need for their squad? There aren't enough hours in the day. Look at Mourinho when he joined. We signed Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira and Tiago, 3 players that played for him at Porto. He got Drogba because he was impressed with how he played against his Porto side two seasons earlier.

Ferguson also only signed Ronaldo because he was lucky to play against Sporting Lisbon during pre-season.

Look at Klopp at Liverpool, he didn't even want Salah, the club just went and got him.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been doing this for decades.

Most clubs target players that will best fit a style of football the current manager plays. It's rare that a manager themselves will go out and target every single player for the club to sign, I would go as far as to say that I highly doubt a single top tier manager is doing this.

OK I know it's a different level but I can't help but compare the situation at Chelsea and that developing at Rangers. Rangers were in the doldrums, the manager had a good background in the club but when given the chance just could not make the team tick. The Board went after a guy no one really knew 5 years manging in Belgium, one season in charge of Monaco - he's come in, instilled discipline and a work ethic, has the team focused on clean sheets and goals and it's working.

The players we have a Chelsea are not all terrible but the leadership is - get the right ethos and we'd be on the road back

Still out. Nothing is changing. I don’t think the players are all that, but Poch doesn’t have a winning mentality and is unable to grow players mentally and technically.

Coaches like a 10th placed manager. But the day we stop trying to win (today, play for pens) is the day I put another final nail in the coffin. Running out of nails now - he’s just not Chelsea.

Out. Out. OUT. You cannot say you're playing for pens against kids.

We were absolutely dominating that match before ET. Klopp sends on the kids and we back off completely. Unforgivable.

Dont make a difference. Potter, Lamps, Poch. Don't matter, with this ownership and directors focused on making money not winning trophies the manager will always be the wrong one for us fans.

Worth noting Fulham scored in both games against stronger pool sides in their semi finals.

Most top managers have a knowledge/ good eye for sporting talents though. I agree it’s a Sports Director job to work with the club scouts to identify the talents, but they work in collaboration with the manager to get the right players in. The summer we signed Sterling and Aubameyang, Tuchel was vocal about working with the owners to get the players he needed in. There is no way Boehly went out to buy the profile of the players we bought that summer without Tuchel handpicking those players. Now one of the Tuchel’s major flaws is poor talent ID in the market. He is bad in that respect.

No manager goes flying around the world looking at players. But they either give names of players they want to sign or rubber stamp any players that are put forward as potential signings. If you think Tuchel was just told "Here you go mate, Aubameyang is arriving next Tuesday" you are mental.

I said it before and i say it again , hire jose Mourinho back

He will instantly command respect from whole people in the club

Lots of managers will take the job on. You don’t win trophies you don’t make money in a club at this level. You might if you were Brighton but big clubs need global markets and you have to win something from time to time to keep them.

Unless something dramatic happens, can't see him starting next season with us. We will be among the managers merry go around in the summer, just hope we land someone better. Realistically, I would rule out any top tier managers e.g. Klopp, Carlo etc joining us. Roman had his charm and cash chest to attract the best, the new owners aren't into big spending, unless it fits their style, e.g. 120M on another 21 year old CM on a 8 year deal.

Especially as it was made known at the time that during that window it was down to Tuchel to pick the players, they were all his choice.
