Do people who post live commentary here, read their idiotic comments later? They should so that they could improve just like the 2nd half performance by the boys!

Fair point although I do stand by the points that I made that Caicedo was horrendous during that first half and the team had no concept of defending whatsoever.  I do think we improved defensively, by not dwelling on the ball in midfield but I am not sure that because our attack was so devastating if it took away focus on the defensive side.

Also I have said it since Maresca arrived, that Mudryk is the most at risk player and he proved it again yesterday. If we are to keep him he has to go on loan to a more forgiving league.

Agree here. The players look so lost defending the transition. I do wonder if that is partially due to a lack of leadership (you need players behind you to tell you who to pick up) and adjustment to systems. It's the sort of thing that gets better with experience. Look at us under Lampard with and without Thiago Silva (apart from his first game, lol).

Disagree on Gusto, he is a very, very good 1v1 defender but like the others gets lost in defending the transition and picking up runners.

The xG as it's a bit conservative for this game; most shots from Palmer's and Felix's positions would be pot-shots but theirs were very clear chances, and Madueke's chances of scoring are way above the average because of the quality of the pass and his ability to use his left foot as well. However, it is a clear lesson that being clinical covers all manner of sins.

It was basically 3 cb with Caicedo as dm plus gusto and enzo next to him. Caicedo is good but not great at defending transition. Enzo is 🤐🤐.

It is nothing new, same as last season. We had Gallagher last season doing a lot of running to cover, Palmer won't do this and we don't want him to do this.

I am not going to debate whether our chances is better/worse than what the xG say because it is a slippery slope. But being clinical make everything very easy. Not only you score but you can't get countered.

Btw talking about how finishing can change be people opinion, if Wolves were more clinical and we didn't. It could have been 5-0 in the 1st half, wolves would sit back and it could get even get uglier and all of us will be talking about whether Maresca is even a coach at this level and whether his tactic is suicidal.

Even though imo our performance was kinda similar vs city. We were fine offensively but had many many problems defensively

Gusto stood out a lot last season as he got down the right side and put in decent crosses, don't think he can do that with Madueke playing on the right or maybe it needs more work between the two of them.

Nice to see Felix on the score sheet and hopefully now he is a CFC player rather than on loan he will be more productive for us and a nice cross from Neto.

I liked the little of saw of KDH his movement looked very clever.

Yesterday reminded me of Villa away in the FA Cup not on style yet we looked quite fired up in a feisty match,

Lots of positives and some negatives with yesterday’s performance but it’s been a long time since I’ve felt so happy with our weekend performance.  Forgot what it was like to constantly run through the match in my head and feel that feeling of joy.  Hopefully this ain’t a one off and we can continue to improve.
I know it’s early days and to not get carried away.  Feeling a lot better about the team.

So strange.

Thought that.  None of Nonis goals were exceedingly difficult or Jackson and Felix either.

I just feel happy today

I haven’t t felt this happy for a bit with Chels  only 3 times last year spurs twice Utd once

I feel over the last two years we would never have scored 6 like yesterday against a team mid table ish . I was at the stage of fearing every team we played all but the last 6/7 weeks of Poch I started to think we might win but under potter and the first 5 months of Poch I expected defeat against whoever we played

Its made a lovely change I totally get our defence isn’t right and Enzo isn’t what I wanted him to be in midfield but I feel positive under the manager and we dont have a bad run to come

Posts from me are rare these days. This is the best I have felt after a Chelsea game for a little while now.

So I made the mistake of logging on.

I got to page 16 of this (at this time 31 page) thread and I remembered very quickly why I came off this site.

My biggest takeaway is that Palmer must be the best player our club has EVER seen because he is the only player at the moment that NONE of you c**ts have an agenda against!

I'm not going to bother going through the second half of pages looking for the apologies for your blatantly sh*t posts because you are,l all too bitchy to admit you might of been wrong.

Even after Jackson got an assist AND a goal I still saw 3 different posters bitching about him.

You lot are the reason we are such a f**king laughing stock, not the owners, not any of the current players, not the managers we have had.

I can't beleive after a result and game like that I am having to say all this.

In short get behind the team, or f**k off and pretend to support a sh*tty team like spurs. You are all an embarrassment to this club! Much more so than player we have at this squad.

I used to be proud of my fellow chelsea fans. We had some of the most respected fans in the world, now we are left with a bunch of spoilt little c**ts like you lot.

I think many will know the real reason you came off the site and those that check your post history will see!

You then try and re-register a few years ago and completely embarrass yourself to your old forum 'friends'!

Your account got unbanned a few times cause people were asking for you back and some were genuinely worried about you!

Logging in and white-knighting players to receive applause while putting the forum down (a pet peeve of Coco's) along with members who have a right to give their opinions on players, is pretty sad! Especially when so many here had time for you even after throwing your toys out of the pram and yet you call them c**ts!

We've always been moaners, even when we were actually good and winning titles. Also in what universe did we ever have "some of the most respected fans in the world"?

You dont remember when Loz won the "Most respected fan in the world" award? Ok, it was an award he made up, and voted for, but still a wins a win.

Good times... the crowds parted to make way for Loz. It helped he was carrying a flame thrower, but still!

Good question, it’s a mind boggling concept.

Didn't take long to prove my post right from the other day. The ownership has created a divide similar to what you see with United fans.

I voted 52 times.  Mod got 52 votes, I got 53   Plokoon got three votes, which was odd as he voted three times and his mum voted.  I guess we know where my 53rd vote came from.

I agree. We are hopeless at defending the transition which has been the case since last year. Maresca made those comments about our players' pressing earlier this year, which the media portrayed as him criticising Poch, but I actually think what he said was that the players have a mish-mash of ideas about pressing (from all the changes we've had) and there is no clear system for defending the transition. Unfortunately I think this will take time but as long as we play positively and keep scoring goals we should be okay. It's easier to defend transitions if you can score first and make the other team chase the game.

So strange.

Yes, sort of. Some models might take that into consideration directly but OPTA's models would at least do so indirectly. Madueke's first goal was from a position a traditional right-footer would find very hard to finish (because the keeper can cover), though it's a 'better' chance for him specifically, it is considered a very low (0.075!) xG position. With his second, his only real option on the right foot was to finish by nutmegging the keeper and he pulled that off (0.067!). There's a lot of statistical noise involved here though, as most of the time shots with feet from those positions happen in chaotic or difficult circumstances (eg set-piece scraps, or off the volley).

Same story with Palmer's goal (0.039!) and Felix's goal (0.155) - in normal open play, they would be speculative shots at best, but Palmer/Felix effectively had an open goal because of Jackson/Neto's play in the buildup.

This sort of analysis is actually how xG/xA is used by pro analysts. They're looking for 'value' by optimising lower-xG situations, since they are areas of the pitch less likely to be defended.
