March 14, 20188 yr Just frustrating, as we were so patient with him. We loaned him out, and when he comes back we even let him replace a legend in Petr Cech, and he still sprouts sh*te to the media about Spain, despite being average 90% of the time. What I’d do for another Petr Cech. Edited March 14, 20188 yr by dansubrosa
March 14, 20188 yr He's been awful this season, he looks like an accident waiting to happen with the ball at his feet. If Madrid or any other club want him I'd get shot in the blink of an eye. Not a patch on Cech. Sell and go for Oblak

No way we can afford 70m for a world class goalkeeper like Oblak or Alisson.

March 15, 20188 yr I think we need a new keeper in the summer. Dip in the market and sign a good one even if it's over 50 million. All we need next season are 2-3 key signings, I hope we spend the right money on each of them instead of messing around.
March 15, 20188 yr Just sell him. Sick to death of hearing him prattle on to the media about Spain etc. Another player who performs like he doesnt want to be here. Offer him plus cash for Oblak.

March 15, 20188 yr Bit knee jerk in here for me. It's one bad game. Same thing used to happen on this board with Cech. One mistake and it's all never been the same after the head injury, need a new keeper etc. Good player who had an off night.

Cech wasn't speaking to the media declaring his heart was elsewhere due to personal or whatever reasons. It goes beyond a bad game and you have to question whether how committed he is anymore.

It's also a big assumption to make that Courtois isn't trying. You'd think if you were trying to force a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world you'd want to put on a show against their biggest rivals. I think he simply got caught out. Simple as that.

It's not a knee jerk reaction though. He's been just another keeper for a while now, when was the last time he made a difference in a game that meant we won instead of drawing or drew instead of getting beat? I genuinely can't remember. Whilst De Gea who a lot of people laughably talk about in the same conversation as Tibo seems to do it every week! For the money he's paid and the reputation he has, Courtois should be able to provide that something extra, and he hasn't for quite a while now.
March 15, 20188 yr Perhaps. My view is that while De Gea is a great shot stopper. He lacks in other areas. Tibo controls the area superbly which was always Cech's challenge. As for big saves, in a losing cause his tip onto the post from Sanchez in the League Cup and his save from Felliani to get us a win against United come to mind.
March 15, 20188 yr Not really living up to his reputation this season. If a big money offer is made i think it has to be considered. Isn't as irreplaceable as i thought a couple of seasons ago.

He hasn't looked great all season and has let a number of soft goals in. I thought we had a world class keeper but to be honest won't be that fussed if he leaves in the Summer.

Top quality stuff. He also saved the Lacazette shot shortly after. He also saved us from being embarrassed by a ten man Lescister just back in January with two good saves against Vardy and a very good one against Ndidi. That's just from what I remember, there's most likely more if I went back and looked. In fact I'm willing to bet there is seeing as he's only conceded two more goals than De Gea in the league, with De Gea having played an extra game. I think people are more upset about his comments and suggestions about wanting to go to Spain than anything because his performances haven't been anywhere near as bad as people are making out and the stats pretty much reflect that.

Many calling for Alisson for Roma who has had only one top class season. Others for Donnarumma who is the same. Courtois has consistently been good for 5 seasons now barring the odd blip.
March 15, 20188 yr I think Courtois is not good enough for a team that wants to fight in europe. The game against barcelona has showed that he can not make saves that are hit at him. We need to find a replacement
March 15, 20188 yr I'd still prefer to keep him, just so we can concentrate on CM and defense in the summer. But if we can make money and find a quality replacement, then I wont exactly worry about him leaving. That said, I bet his agent is pretty keen for him to sign that new deal ASAP after last night's showing in Spain.

Its not like he is Mignolet or Joe Hart. The problem with him is that he thinks he is De Gea.
March 15, 20188 yr It was a poor showing yesterday though no doubt, Id rather him stay, because I think the only players that would definately be better are unlikely to be an option. Oblak is a non starter, why would he even want to leave? Between Torres, Costa, and Felipe Luiz, I don't think we are getting glowing reports in that Atlético dressing room. Alisson is more likely due to roma possibly needing the money, he is an excellent shot stopper, but it remains to be seen whether he will command his area well enough to cope with the amount of crosses he would have to deal with in england. Donnarumma is very young and inexperienced, and from all accounts, he hasn't hit the same heights this season, im not sure he is better than Courtois currently, and he may never be. Who else is there? Butland? Courtois' context situation means we won't even get full value for him in the summer, there re greater needs in the team right now than changing keepers, so if he wants to sign an extension, let's get it done, so the rumours will die down for a season or 2, and hopefully Courtois can knuckle down and focus on his game.
