May 8, 201610 yr When drogba was falling out of love with football, he didn't try and did he try under scolari? scolari actually stayed longer that season than jose this season and what about avb? did he try? drogba is considered a legend no doubt but not to say he's rarely quilty of not giving 100%, there was actually quite number of times where he couldn't be arsed to my frustration.. The way I see it, both players are equally quilty in the case of not trying when they don't want to, the difference lies at their style, one would embroiled himself in excessive wind up incidents, the other would rolling over the field at almost every possible touch.. Que?
May 9, 201610 yr My only point on the matter is that there an awful number of players ahead of Costa in the queue for who should be out of the door in the summer...
May 9, 201610 yr That's the funny thing, we go on about saying how spineless and pathetic our players are for getting Jose sacked and we need a clear out. We didn't mind too much when Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Cole ect. were doing the same. The only difference was this time the manager was sacked 2 months too late to salvage the season. and that they didn't do it to a manager who just won the double with them the previous season, nevermind the most succesful manager in the history of the club. Just that tiny detail of a difference too.
May 9, 201610 yr and that they didn't do it to a manager who just won the double with them the previous season, nevermind the most succesful manager in the history of the club. Just that tiny detail of a difference too. so players rebelling the manager is fine if you dislike the manager? okay then
May 9, 201610 yr There is so much wrong in your post and JMmaher revision of history It's hard to know where to start. I'll admit from the off I don't agree with much of what you post on most subjects, but particularly on strikers. You rated Torres for starters and we know how that ended. So, before Drogba, we had a striker who regularly scored 20 goals a season and yet we never really troubled the big teams. In Drogba's first season we won the league title for the first time in 50 years and scored a record amount of goals from midfield and defenders. Why? Because we had, for the first time since Kerry Dixon, a forward who could play all over the pitch. He defended, he held the ball, he won balls in the air. In an injury blighted start he still scored goals and the chances he made for others were staggering. Don't take my word for it though, read what Lamps and JT have written about his impact. I think winning the league was more to do the £200m+ investment into the squad over the previous two years.
May 9, 201610 yr We really need a quality striker to challenge him. He is basically a nailed on starter every week because Remy, Pato and Falcao are so bad and no-one has trusted Traore enough to give him starts yet. Problem with Costa is, whilst he's a good instrinctive finisher, he's sh*t at holding the ball, sh*t at passing, sh*t at dribbling and is a ticking time bomb every time he's on the pitch. We need more than 1 decent striker. He is not the man to rely on week in week out.

May 9, 201610 yr so players rebelling the manager is fine if you dislike the manager? okay then Absolutely lost how you got to that conclusion. What I stated was there is a huge difference between revolting against a manager when they are new and their methods are failing versus revolting against a captain who not only just steered the team their biggest success in years but also happens to be the most successful manager in the history of the organization. By your logic I would be fine with every and any revolt because you don't revolt against people you like......
May 9, 201610 yr Costa is a somewhat amusing, sometimes infuriating & highly entertaining addition to the premier league. The official BPL pantomime villain, our player that we can rally round when he's excessively victimized by the FA and the media for minor indiscretions like stamping, grappling, kicking out, holding, faux-biting, and other assorted acts of violent conduct. I'm in favour of keeping him not only for that factor, but also because he scores more than any other Chelsea player currently. He may not be able to hold a candle to the Drog but until the unknown person at Chelsea who signs players can find a better striker (more striker flops since 2007 than successes - Sheva, Di Santo, Pizarro, Torres, Ba, Eto, Falcao, Pato) getting rid of him in the next transfer window is a big gamble. The one thing that did brown me off with the bloke was how he played under Jose M this season as contrasted with how he has been under Guus. Must of been personal and that coupled with his likelihood to 'go off ' at any moment on the pitch during competitive and sometimes crucially important matches and it is apparent Diego comes first in his mind not our club. But got to keep him for another season at least, until a new player (hopefully) can prove he can do the business at scoring goals.

He has his good an bad days with those things but if there's a big game I'd certainly trust him to take his chances. I don't think he needs replacing, just a good backup who has a different style. You can bank on Costa having a couple minor injuries or suspensions every year so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone willing to come off the bench or start every so often when something different is required up front. If only we had a young, talented, quick forward who can offer something different and play alongside him or out wide..... Edited May 10, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues

As the above poster mentioned, he certainly has on and off days with all those things you mentioned... even in-game he can have 2,3, 4 bad first touches then his 5th go will be a delight. It's infuriating at times. One thing I'm sure of though is that he puts the ball in the back of the net if given the chance. So many strikers around come in and hold the ball up nicely, direct nice passes out wide or have run at a defender or two.. but then they can't put the ball in the god dam net. I don't think he'd enjoy it, but i think he'd be a super substitute when chasing the game. I'd back him to get one in more often than not with a lot of delivery.
May 17, 201610 yr Hasn't made the cut for Spain for the Euro's, do we think it's down to injury, attitude or something more?
May 17, 201610 yr Hasn't made the cut for Spain for the Euro's, do we think it's down to injury, attitude or something more? Surprising. He was left out the side for the last few games so maybe he is injured or getting something looked at? If not then it will no doubt cause him concern about staying here if getting overlooked.
May 17, 201610 yr I don't mind, good summers rest for him so he can be back at it for us next season. There is a down side though, if he'd have gone to the Euro's he would have been forced to stay fit, now that he has the summer off he might add a few pounds again. But he's a professional, so I hope he learned from his mistake.
May 17, 201610 yr Hasn't made the cut for Spain for the Euro's, do we think it's down to injury, attitude or something more?Am not sure the Spanish team manager knows what he is doing. I will take Costa even ahead of Morata!
May 17, 201610 yr Del Bosque has commented that his decision of not taking Costa is due to physical uncertainties and he doesn't want to take players that may not be 100% fit. The case of Mata is different, and he has said that he preferred to take other players instead. So yes, Costa may be injured after all. http://www.marca.com/futbol/seleccion/2016/05/17/573af292268e3ee75c8b4599.html He is taking Pedro too. Edited May 17, 201610 yr by Motörhead
May 17, 201610 yr How do you guys not know that Costa is injured? He's missed the last 2 games. Could have been a slight knock or just not risking him. Seems it his hamstrings again for the hundredth time, we really need to get something done about that.

May 17, 201610 yr Sorry for Diego. Probably wanted to play for Spain. But a well rested Diego is a good Diego.
