He definitely should have got to Azpilicueta's cross though, he didn't react to the cross until it was too late. If he arrives half a step earlier the game is completely different. Hopefully it doesn't happen again but I think we'll be ok with him as long as he picks up those little things. Definitely an improvement on Higuain in terms of mobility and getting involved in play. I also thought he was a bit unlucky in his pressing today. If he keeps going he'll find joy soon enough.
August 11, 20196 yr Don't think he did bad at all. Still offers more than either of the other two strikers we have.

I have real doubts he'll be good enough to be the longterm main striker, but for gods sake let's give the lad a bloody chance. He's obviously still very raw with a lot to learn at this level, but he did at least hit the post and got into a good position for the Azpi cross. Zouma is the one who should be getting the real stick. He's got plenty of experience at this level and there's no excuse for such a performance. The guy gives me the willies every time the ball goes near him. Got to dump him right now before he does any more damage.
August 12, 20196 yr Shame his early fizzer of a shot didn't go in. Could have been the confidence boost he needed. It wasn't to be.
August 12, 20196 yr He did okay. But my expectations are quite low from the strikers. That shot was unlucky, in the first half he did give theyr defence a few things to think about. I wasn't too impressed with Mount, however, even though others were.

Thank you. I thought Tammy did well. Not his fault good old Harry was allowed to wrestle him with impunity. Only complaint is not reacting quick enough for a tap in. But Giroud probably would have done the same.

If by bullied you mean hauled him to the ground with a grapple because Abraham was holding him off before Uniteds second then I agree. As for reminding you of Morata, this appears to be a classic case of Torres-nostalgia. This anomaly is where the subject (you) suffers from forgetting just how bad the player they’ve compared the individual to, namely Morata. He was utter dog sh*te and never hit a shot as sweet as Abraham’s, would he have got the table in? Most likely, yet he’d probably have managed to put it over the bar. Abraham was not immense today, but he done OK. He’s a 21 year old guy starting and leading the line for Chelsea at Old Trafford in his first game as the main man, the fact there’s some folk (not you) slating and writing him off after crying for youth is laughable. They need patience and chances. There’s certain players I understand it with Zouma, Christensen (although I disagree) who have had decent chances to form assessments on. Abraham, Mount, James etc haven’t had that and until they have, I won’t be writing them off.
August 12, 20196 yr Methinks some people are still missing the Serie A goal machine that was Gonzo Higuain. They miss the wispy hair, the chubby belly, the apparently great movement, even though he was too slow to actually get on the end of anything. Yes, young Mr Abraham has a tough act to follow.

Seems to be a lot of Chelsea fans who a month ago believed we should have low expectations with a new manager, young players, and a transfer ban have suddenly become very impatient.

August 12, 20196 yr Didn't dominate the opposition like Drogba and bag a hat trick in his very first game away at Old Trafford? Sack him.

I can be as reactionary as the next person, most folk will say things which on reflection they realise was heat of the moment, even if it’s not necessarily on here whether it’s to a mate, or their partner while watching the game. But to write off a 21 year old striker after a pre season & one competitive game against a defence worth approximately £190m one of which is the most expensive defender ever - is laughable, particularly when he was unlucky not to score. Will Abraham be a world class centre forward? I have no idea, I like to think so but I’ll be giving him more than one game to stake a claim to lead the line & I’m sure frank will too. No doubt had his shot went crashing in off the post he’d be the second coming of Drogba. Edited August 13, 20196 yr by EdinburghBlue

Yup I called this. A season coming 5th or 6th in the league and blooding young players sounds great as a headline. But many people who back that dont understand what that means. It means getting thumped occasionally, losing against a big rival, some embarrassing results and probably not going far in a cup competition. We've been spoilt by having either definitely awful seasons or definitely good seasons. A building season will seem awful as it will only be compared to the good ones (especially as last year we had a great season and no one liked it!)

A building season will seem awful as it will only be compared to the good ones (especially as last year we had a great season and no one liked it!) Good points. The average points haul for a side coming 6th in PL history is 61 points. So something like 16 wins, 13 draws and 9 defeats, or 18 wins, 7 draws and 13 defeats, or even 20 wins, 1 draw and 17 defeats, ... but whichever way you spin it, it is going to be a lot of defeats ... and probably not too many positive results against teams that are going to end up finishing above us ... time to bury the ego for a year and come to terms that rivals are probably going to have the 2019/20 bragging rights ... but hopefully in the middle and long term our strategy with developing the academy players will be a masterstroke !
