N'golo Kante - We are not worthy!

Featured Replies

"Top players they play in every position, top players they don’t get excuses about the system, the position, the way the team plays."

That is quote from Mou and Kante had proven this time and time again. Even if imo Tuchel system does not really suit Kante but a monster player is still a monster, you may not get their full ability but he will still show you that he is still a top player.

Hey @just , what we were talking about after the Leeds game. This IS the Kante we all know and love and the levels we want him at. When he falls below his own incredibly high standards he gets criticized for what would seem a good display for others.

We don't just want good from Kante, we want this. Domination.

Agree, although it's only right to point out that he was getting criticism after the Leeds game because of his passing, lack of vision and dallying on the ball that allowed Leeds to regroup. He still did the other stuff (tracking, disrupting, tackling etc) well.

Last night against athleti he did those things (tracking/ tackling) brilliantly, turning those aspects of his game up to 11 -  but with Kova next to him, it meant that he was not the more advanced cm tasked to be progressive and start attacks, and as a result, he did not need the same amount of time on the ball.  This better utilised his positive attributes whilst meaning he we didn't need to rely on him to do stuff he is not so good at.

Kante was still sloppy at times with his passing - I recall a couple of times he passed the ball out of touch. There was also a time I n the second half, that he had a chance to play CHO in,  but the ball was slightly behind Callum, and this meant the attack was not what it could have been. He also missed chances to play people in - an example being as early as the 4th minute, when he had the chance to slip in timo, but instead went sideways....

But make no bones about it, overall, he was immense, and when the team is set up to play to his strengths like last night, he is one of, if not the best in the world, at what he does.

There was the ball to James, the pass through to Havertz, and if it is the same opportunity, (where Kante ran with the ball from his own half), I don't agree the ball to CHO was behind him. CHO should have done a lot more with it. He did play a "Jorginho ball" in to touch but TBH I can't think of any time a promising attack broke down because of Kante's "sloppy passing". And even if it had so what given the magnificence of his performance. Even Pirlo and Zidane didn't get every ball spot on.

Sorry Jim, but IMO you need to drop the view that Kante offers no creativity for a few days and accept that he was simply awesome last night, in EVERY aspect of the game, defensively and offensively.

For me a fit Kante is the first name on the team sheet for all big games  Kovacic and Mount are too.

I think I have been very clear that ngolo was brilliant last night. In my last 2 messages I said ...

"as  someone who was critical of Ngolo against Leeds, thought only right to tip my hat at his performance tonight. At his best, and when not tasked with carrying the ball forward, he was able to win the ball over and over again. Phenomenal effort and energy"

and

"make no bones about it, overall, he was immense, and when the team is set up to play to his strengths like last night, he is one of, if not the best in the world, at what he does"

I can't be anymore explicit in my praise - and whilst I don't agree that he was perfect In EVERY aspect of the game (who is!), he was immense last night.

This seems to happen every f**king international break. Just when he was getting back to his best after being eased in slowly.

Hopefully not too bad.

it’s f**king hamstring injury so not feeling very optimistic. f**k this sh*t. apparently he felt small pain during the match but he played all 90 minutes of course.

This latest setback has raised Deschamps' 'shut the f**k up' rating to a 7.9.

He is one snippy remark about Giroud's lack of playing time away from hitting an 8!

You’re much more tolerant than me, 10 is the lowest he can reach.

Equally on him and the France manager for me. If you feel the pain there you ask to come off. If you dont the manager should insist you come on off.

"He is used to playing at a very high level, he does not save himself," said Deschamps. "I am not unhappy when Tuchel does not start him every game.

"But everything is about communication. Players can arrive from their club, not in ideal shape and then come back in better condition."

He added: "With Kante, it is more about physical problems that have been ongoing for several seasons,’ he added. ‘He does not save himself, but he is like that, I will not change it.

"With a little experience, he is learning to manage himself."

Reminds me of the famous Rodney Marsh / Sir Alf Ramsey story.

Sir Alf allegedly said "I'll be watching you for the first 45 minutes Marsh and if you don't work harder I'll pull you off at half time," to which Marsh replied: "Crikey, Alf, at QPR all we get is an orange and a cup of tea."

Whether it was true or not, Rodney Marsh was never picked for England again.
