March 16, 20215 yr For any half decent team that are known to press well in midfield, ala Leeds, I wouldn't ever consider Jorginho as a starter for the reasons previously stated. You won't see many, if any teams, playing like Liverpool did with the press coupled with a high defensive line featuring a makeshift centre back pairing. Football suicide and one of the reasons Klopp would have been gone by now if Roman was his boss.

Could have put our tank next to Kante, aka Reece James. He dominated the midfields in the Championship with Wigan. The Leeds players would just have bounced off him.

That's a good shout actually, another option that I'd rather Tuchel has used. We definitely lack physicality in midfield no matter who plays there, James would give us that in abundance. If he dedicated himself to the role I could see him becoming as effective as Essien, got a lot of the same attributes just needs to mature.

James didn't look that good at all playing as a DM for us from what I remember but in a back 3 formation he maybe could do okay there... Still I think he's a good RB that just lacks some defensive training/defensive awareness, I think he has shown his quality in his natural position already so there shouldn't be a need to change his position. The solution has to be a new DM signing, part from Jorginho we don't really have a player that sits back and Jorginho isn't a classical DM either. Kovacic and Kante love to run with the ball and to roam a bit, we clearly need a new DM - otherwise if James is to have that role then suddenly we would be in a huge need of a RB, unless we're just taking for granted that nobody will ever manage to crack our defense while we play with the back 3 as we're doing now. I personally believe that we must continue to evolve and ultimately change back to a back 4 formation at some point just to keep things fresh. Edited March 16, 20215 yr by Gol15
March 17, 20215 yr That Kante lad is totally expendable. Invisible again tonight. Don't understand why he keeps getting picked. Hopefully Ayr United come in with a negligible offer for him in the summer.

March 17, 20215 yr As someone who was critical of Ngolo against Leeds, thought only right to tip my hat at his performance tonight. At his best, and when not tasked with carrying the ball forward, he was able to win the ball over and over again. Phenomenal effort and energy. Still a bit sloppy on the ball at times, but boy, what a performance.

March 17, 20215 yr Hey @just , what we were talking about after the Leeds game. This IS the Kante we all know and love and the levels we want him at. When he falls below his own incredibly high standards he gets criticized for what would seem a good display for others. We don't just want good from Kante, we want this. Domination.

Zinedine Zidane asked Florentino Perez to make Kante his first signing when he re-joined Real Madrid in 2019. Performances like that show why.
