Danny Drinkwater

6, 8 who cares, it's just a bloody number, anybody who draws comparisons with players because they wear or wore the same number, needs to wobble their head.

Anyway....welcome to Chelsea Danny, get stuck in son!

I think this is a great signing personally and I like his style of play. The fact he's played very well alongside Kante in the past will mean he'll slot into the team with very little effort.

I think it'll help Morata and Bats that he looks for a quick pass over the top at times, and he's more mobile than Cesc.

Good luck and all the best, stay injury free. But to be fair, i`m not happy with him and the price we pay. But it`s all because of the board, because they left all for so late and everybody know how desperate we are.

We should get such caliber players like him for no more then 10-20mln.

If we was doing our business early june or july, for 35mln. we would have get a lot better player then him.

Hes last season was terrible.

Yes he have solid season, when they won the PL, but also players like Andy Caroll, Dawning, Charlie Adam and Benteke for example have and we see what happen after that. There is time when they play above their levels in 1 season, cause they are in good form, and so on, and after that they are back to being bang average.

I would have zero problem if we would get him for the 10-20mln. but sorry we sold Chalobah for 5mln. and Matic for 40mln. to direct rival, just to spend 35mln. on Drinkwater. To me that is insult and show how incompetent our board is.

Better keep Chalobah and lose him on free next year, then fu** your depth in that way.

Anyway i hope he success here and prove me wrong.

If you get the Danny who partnered Kante in the title winning season, then you have a real gem. Sadly last season he failed to follow up his good form - for the most part like the rest of the team. Rumours were he was carrying an injury - and he's yet to feature this season.

I'm guessing he'll be on the bench as I can't see him playing ahead of your current midfield. Hope he settles in well and justifies the £35m price tag. Good luck for the season

Somebody bring me Drinkwater
Can't you see I'm burning alive
Can't you see my Chelsea got another player
I don't know how I'm gonna survive
Somebody bring me Drinkwater
Can't you see it's out of control
Chelsea's got my heart and my Chelsea's got my mind
But tonight the sweet Danny, the sweet Danny's got my soul!
That would be amazing if sung at the game

Unfortunately, the price of players seems to have gone out the window since the Pogba, Neymar deals. He's also English so we were always going to have to pay top dollar for him and as you mentioned we left it very late so Leicester were only going to accept a pretty audacious bid knowing that we would have to budge. I don't expect him to light up the midfield but I feel much better having him in the squad, everyone was complaining about our lack of depth (myself included) and whilst he might not be on the same level as Nainggolan, Vidal etc. he does bring EPL + Champions League experience, he also had a title winning season with in the center of the park with Kante which I feel may have been a big incentive for Chelsea to go after him knowing how good he and Kante played together, having said that... Kante made Matic look amazing.

Anyway, first game back from the International break is against his now old club, will be interesting to see if Conte puts his trust in him straight away or if there is a change in formation.. I'd say that I'm relatively happy with the signings we have made and excited to see how the season pans out. I'm feeling much better than what I did 2 - 3 weeks ago.

I'm starting to warm to DD. He is obviously someone Conte wants. His ceiling is where it is atm probably but who knows if he excells around better players. I also like an englishman in the squad who is more than 19 years old.

I think Bakayoko is going to be our main mf with Kante but he can slot in whenever needed.

I also think Danny is proud to be with the champions so he will do his very best.

It's nice to sign an English player, I think he will do well. Bonus is we got rid of Matic as well, at least Danny is a fighter and can pass the damn ball.

Welcome Danny and good luck.

Good choice in shirt number, if he's half as good as Riccy Carvalho...

I don't think it was a case of no one wanting to start a DD thread, people probably presumed the mods would move the existing one over from the rumours section.

Not exactly a world beater and he will only be a rotation option, but i'm sure he'll be able to do a decent job. Looks like he knows when to release the ball, decent in the tackle, works hard. Hopefully this will be reminiscent of the Cahill transfer - a decent English player, who with the right teammates and management, pushes on and becomes better.

Happy with the signing of this player. He adds a solid depth to our squad in the midfield and he probably won't need much time to settle into the formation as he already knows Kante. Not mind-blowing but a good player that actually wanted to join us. Happy to see him in a Chelsea shirt.
