Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

If you look back at Benteke's chance in stoppage time Jorginho's positioning was terrible and shares part of the blame alongside Christensen. If it wasn't for Zouma's last ditch tackle I bet you ppl would be slagging Jorginho off for that goal. His defensive liabilities have been prevalent throughout the season he gets done for pace and has no legs. He did a good job today bringing control to the game for the last 10 minutes so I'm not taking that away from him. It's just that the defensive side of his game isn't at the level we need.

He didn't mark Benteke he was marking his own zone, it was a straight pass to the striker, our midfield can't recover from poor marking of the back line, this is how it has been all season long regardless of who's playing.

In 10 min he had 2 tackles and 1 interception, Gilmour had 3/2 in 80 minutes.

That's what I'm referring to he left a massive gap between midfield and the backline coupled with his non-existent recovery pace. We've conceded countless goals because of this

I actually disagree with this. I thought Abraham was sloppy with the ball and lost possession and gave up immediately, then one ball through the middle bypassed our entire midfield and split apart our defence that I think were miles away from each other. That's what I thought happened.

He finds space better than gilmour and moved the ball quicker. It was actually quite interesting to see the level above gilmour and again surprising that lampard didn't start him.

For 10 minutes today he did. Gilmour against Liverpool and Everton performed better than Jorginho has ever done for Chelsea however (and he was 18 at the time!)

Yeah I mentioned this in the reply above. The wide gap between midfield and defence has nothing to do with Abraham though we've seen this countless times this season. It's not just Jorginho its like these players lose focus/concentration and start ball watching. My main gripe with Jorgi in particular is he has no recovery pace. A good player with significant limitations for where he plays.

The gap is there but I don't think that you can blame a midfielder for not marking Benteke. If you believe that this goal is a result of not intercepting that pass, I could point to really countless examples that occurred when Kante and Kova were playing as well.

Got to disagree there. As good as Gilmour was in those games, we notice them more because of how young he is, if Jorginho put in a game like that, people wouldn't be talking about it as much. And Jorginho was outstanding earlier in the season, especially when Frank won MOTM.

Now trying to downplay Gilmour, but when youngsters put in a good performance, we notice it more, that's the difference.

I thought he was top class when he came on today. And I'm one who has been very critical of him in the past. Brought a calmness and level head which Gilmour, Barkley, Mount and RLC all failed to bring whilst Palace were dominating possession.   I felt he should have started the game rather than Gilmour (which I did say a day or two ago) to bring a little more experience to the midfield and not expose Gilmour to a level of pressure at such a young age.  Couldn't understand why RLC came on instead of Jorginho and I was questioning Lampard then...then he created the  goal for Abraham and I accepted I'm a sofa football fan!   That said I still think Lampard allowed is to be dominated for far too long today. Jorginho was an obvious change at half time for me.

You're right, it does get "bigged up" more when it's an 18 year old but then again, rightly so. Same when Foden does it for Man City.

As I said earlier, Jorginho at 28 should be at his peak so he SHOULD be putting in lots of MOTM performances. For me, as good as he CAN be, he's too in & out and just not shown enough consistency.

First game in a few months, others were rusty after the break but I simply couldn't see Jorghy being rusty at all.

He just picked up where he left off, despite everything (booed and not given a chance in several occasions) he has always been as they say, a proper Chels and that's the simple truth about him.

I agree with this and have made the same criticism of him on many occasions. However, what he does have is anticipation which often allows him to nip in and break up moves, whereas a number of our bright young things just don't seem to have the aforethought and, for me, are often found on the back foot, and as we have seen a number of time that first yard that is in the head is so massively important

Jorginho played like Cesc or Pirlo for those 10-15 minutes, sublime moving the ball and spraying it around like jackson Polack😉

Yeah he was great for 10 mins, i thought great relax, but no, the last 5 minutes he misplaced a few passes and went awol, so yes a lot like Cesc.

His perfromance today is the difference between a Man and a Boy playing and that was 10 minutes. Hype all the players you want but rhe showed why hes one of the best in his position.

In crucial matches who would I want pulling the strings for me? Jorginho

Apart from that dodgy last few minutes of the game when everyone fell asleep he really controlled the game and dictated the tempo when he came on & showed Gilmour he’s still got a lot to learn.

Frank surely has to keep him in mind for a starting role til the end of the season. Then he’s almost certainly gone which will be a shame but clearly Lamps wants a different kind of player in that position.

Really don't understand the denials in here, Jorgie is a fine midfielder.

Very interested to hear from Frank what he believes is lacking from Jorgie.

On first look i also thought the Jorginho could have done better in that play.. but if i look back at it again.. i think its the over zealous forward play that got us in trouble.. and AC had to make a very tough decision  weather to go wide or stay central...
