Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

Featured Replies

He must have made it clear he wants to go back to Italy or something like that.

Thought he had a good season, very good at times and he and Kovacic formed a formidable partnership early on in the season.

Good luck to him in the future. Now we just need to make sure we get our moneys worth for him.

He has to play against sheffield united if kante isnt fully fit.

We have seen players look sloppy when they have returned, and Jorginho looked like he hadnt had any time off.

He still gets a raw deal from large parts of this fanbase, he isnt quick, he isnt strong, but he does lead and dictate better than any other midfielder, and now we are at the sharp end of the season, we need leaders, and authority.

Listen, I'm all for playing youngsters, Billy has a lot of potential, but we need points right now. And Jorginho has to play in the middle if it's out of him or Gilmour, you could already see the difference when he came on.

Hopefully that sends a message to Frank.

I'm still all for playing Gilmour.

There is never going to be a time where we don't need points, so if we think like that, Gilmour will never get game time. You need a balance though, and I don't think freezing Jorginho out completely is a good idea. Experience is huge in any sport, and I think that is the difference between Gilmour and Jorginho right now.

No doubt ppl will come here and say he changed the game..... for 5 minutes yeah. We were dominated again in stoppage time and nearly conceded. but he did restore some semblance of balance just not going to overblow his impact. certainly did better than gilmour though.

One player cannot nullify the poor performance of three, four iffy defenders. He did a great job despite that, I would have preferred him to be on the pitch earlier.

You can't seriously tell me there wasn't a huge difference when Jorginho replaced Gilmour? Jorginho is clearly a better player, as you would expect from a 27 year old compared to a 19 year old. Every game right now is essential becase we need to get a European spot, it's not the same as any other game.

I agree with you, Jorginho is the better player right now and he calmed us down when he came on, but that is because he is the more experienced player. The only way Gilmour will learn is if we continue to give him game time. I have no issue with Gilmour starting games here and there, even now, because the way I see it, we will never be in the position where points aren't crucial. I'm not saying play Gilmour in every game, but we have to keep playing him to help him grow as footballer.

I think maybe you're right and we need that experience in the battle for top 4 and CL football.

Fair play to Jorginho today, he was great when he came on but let's not forget how great Gimour was in those games against Everton and Liverpool. Case of horses for courses and it's down to Lamps to manage and get the selections right.

I get what you're saying, and I'm not dismissing Billy, he was actually quite good, especially in the 2nd half he grew into the game a bit. But he wasn't good "enough" if you catch me? He'll get better in time and has a high ceiling, but Jorginho came on and was hitting pinpoint diagonal passes instantly and was getting the game flowing, creating angles, everyone was just much more comfortable when he came on and that's what he brings. He also intercepted the ball a few times.

He's not the best defensively of course, but he's nowhere near as bad as so many Chelsea fans would have you believe. Last season I'll admit I wasn't fussed on him that much, but I knew that was his first season, this season I think he's been excellent, I'm surprised so many want him gone. Really underappreciated player, I hope he starts next game.

I agree he needs starts, but not away a palace at this time of the season, especially when Jorginho is kicking his heels on the bench. Home to norwich of wolves if we have already qualified for CL.

I think its important to remember its his 1st season of professional football, and he plays in a very important area of the pitch, its not like he is a winger, and he can get away with a few things.

Its great lampard has shown so much faith in him, but i think there has to be a balance aswell at that age.

For me ability wise he's brilliant. Other than Kante when he's on his game Jorginho for me is our best midfielder. You could see from his introduction he started to swing the game back in our favour.

Sadly I think its certain he will be gone come the summer and I think we will have missed out on a very good player.

Agree with all of this. I'd go with Jorginho starting the majority of the remaining games, get us a real foothold in the game and hopefully establish a lead, then bring on gilmour, maybe to partner him and learn from him, to see out the game. The exception would be Norwich who are coming up after Sheff Utd, and that should be a gimme so Gilmour and maybe RLC could get a start and much needed game time in that one.

I think if Jorginho moves on in the summer, he will be as much to blame as anyone.

On his day, he is an exquisite footballer. Today reminded me of a game earlier in the season (Arsenal away?) where he came on and changed the game. But like many players, he gets a run of games and the complacence sets in and he gets sloppy and makes too many errors. He's not alone, but he at an age where he should now be at his peak and be putting in top performances week in, week out and Lamps has probably decided to try something different and try and mold Gilmour for the future.

I just think he's a better bet than the likes of Barkley who blow more cold than hot. I don't think games like today are the best for Billy just now especially at such a critical point for the top 4 but equally glad he's getting the minutes. I think from the cameo Frank can't not play Jorginho next game.

He sufferes what our whole midfield suffers from just now and I don't think the constant change is helping things. I don't think Frank knows his best midfield yet and that worries me.

However we have much bigger things to worry about with our defence, we badly need 3 players who are at a top level to come straight on. That's going to cost CL place money so hopefully we can get over the line.

He has been our best deep midfielder stat-wise. The only one that had a bigger run of good games has been Kova.

If you look back at Benteke's chance in stoppage time Jorginho's positioning was terrible and shares part of the blame alongside Christensen. If it wasn't for Zouma's last ditch tackle I bet you ppl would be slagging Jorginho off for that goal. His defensive liabilities have been prevalent throughout the season he gets done for pace and has no legs. He did a good job today bringing control to the game for the last 10 minutes so I'm not taking that away from him. It's just that the defensive side of his game isn't at the level we need.

He finds space better than gilmour and moved the ball quicker. It was actually quite interesting to see the level above gilmour and again surprising that lampard didn't start him.

Other Than Bringing A Bit Of Control Back In The Game, He Brought The Midfield And Defense Closer Together, Before He Came On There Was A Massive Gap In-between The Defense And Midfield
