That Sterling Incident

Of course if (it's proved) the guy was racist he should get banned and rightly so.

Always mystifies me though how the same 'figures' in the game seem happy for other clubs fans to sing homophobic 'rent boys' chants at us without batting an eyelid.

Imagine the media outrage if videos like this of Chelsea fans were around

The media attach Chelsea because it is possible that a fan may have said something racist, yet articles like this are published.

Has Sterling said anything about this? He really needs to - it seems that he’s the one best placed to confirm whether or not they were being racist c**ts. If there is no confirmation (either from Sterling or maybe other fans who HEARD what was shouted) then there is no case here and Rio and Wrighty need to shut the f**k up. If high-profile media types are calling racism without justification then it’s makes it more likely that future (genuine) racist incidents won’t be taken as seriously.

Love how no-one reminds Rio of his racist remarks to Ashley Cole - pure hypocrite.

The media have immediately jumped on the racism narrative. The 3 guys look embarrassing shouting abuse at a player like that and should be banned if it is racist.

Agreed that racial abuse is vile ; jumping all over it on the Sunday Supplement.....worrying how much time is being spent on 'alleged racial abuse' and now pulling out every fan comment and banter that could be heard, funny though fans don't shout abuse at our players at any other ground; what a load of bollocks; fans have been shouting at players since my first game at the Bridge in 69....next thing no fans will be allowed to shout at players.....

Apparently on Sunday supplement saying the ground echoes to "He runs like a Girl, Raheem sterling he runs like a girl", epic chant..

they are just conducting a witch hunt and trying to dig up sh*t to stir up sh*t...typical journalism

How do one man's actions affect the entire club and put it in a  negative light?

Why should we even care about this? Everybody can go to the stadium.

The Narrative i picked up was these were a group of older supporters, that were probably old school 'Boys' back in the 90s, where every team and ground was full of vitriol hatred and banter, but was part n parcel, fast track to the modern arena, young fans are going to be appalled by this type of Banter, (Abuse)

they did look older that's for sure...still love how these journalist find excuses for City's loss, still the darlings for the media, together with Liverpool...hardly any credit for Chelsea...so far anyway

Every game i watch on TV i see venom being aimed at players from the stands, EVERY GAME !

Why is this game any different ? Was a mic pinned to the accuse lapels ?

Are we in danger of persecuting the innocent ?

I have in the past aimed abuse at opposing players (panto style), am i now in danger of being accused of racism ?

I think we may be forgetting that the coverage of the incident is far from the most important thing here... as irritating as it may be to hear the various talking heads jumping on their high horses and condemning the fanbase as a whole, we should remember that a young man was [possibly] subjected to appalling, unacceptable abuse which has no place in our, or any, club. If it is proven that the incident did happen, I hope we punish the perpetrators with the full extent of our power.

A nasty occurrence which marred what should have been a perfect day.

Sterling has implied it was racist abuse. Happy to see the book thrown at them and those fans not return to the club.if I was there and I'd heard it, I'd have reported it as I have done before.

Bringing up sterling runs like a girl is odd though, that's part and parcel of football chanting. There's far worse than that going on at every club.

If it's proven to be racist then he should be banned for life, same as the dopey w**ker who threw a banana skin at the arsenal player, an incident that drew nowhere near the same amount as coverage as this one by the way.

As for chants about running like a girl, we have to put up with "Chelsea rent boys" from most away fans, something no one in the media seem bothered about strangely.

I did but little old me will just be buried under all the other sh*te said. I wonder if Rio would call Sterling ‘choc ice’ if he said he didn’t say it?

Great so we’re all racist and sexist now.

I also have no f**king idea what Sterling is waffling on about in that tweet. Did he hear anything or not?

Are we seriously having a thread about lip-reading? After watching it I thought they were shouting "w**ker", but hey, who am I to contradict Prof Rio Ferdinand, who has a PhD in lip-reading racist abuse at Stamford Bridge.

Why not open one about mind-reading what really Jenna's thinks of us "rent boys", which of course we heard a couple of weeks ago at Wembley and nothing was made of it?

Looking at the video I personally find it hard to believe he (bloke in glasses on the right) could be shouting anything other than "black bastard". Sterling hints that the abuse was racist but it's very vague - based on his instagram post it could have been something else entirely that he interpreted as racism because he's a black man being abused by white men, much like how he believes (possibly correctly) that much of the negative press he has received, while not explicitly racist, was influenced by his skin colour. Actually, I doubt that's the case here but it needs a proper investigation to clear it up and those 'fans' should be dealt with.

Concerns about persecuting the innocent are a bit much - even if they didn't say anything racial you've still got a bunch of cowardly c**ts yelling abuse point-blank at a young lad who can't react. They're c**ts either way, if it turns out they're racist c**ts then the club should ban them for life.

Okay, I must have watched it about 50 times now, and the more I watch it, the harder it is to tell.

It's either "manc c***" or "black c***". The problem is that I can see both if I am looking for it.

Either way, the guy looks completely ridiculous. Some people go too far with abuse at football matches.

Yes, I tried repeating what he said. I tried saying both manc and black c*** in the mirror and both are similar,  the "m" looks like a "b"

Another thing is, surely sterling would have reacted negatively if he heard it? Reporting It straight away to the officials/stewards or even shouting back at the guy.

I am not defending the guy, but it's all well and good for Wright and Ferdinand to come out and point the finger, but they're in cushy jobs and financially set, whereas this guy's career could be at risk if he's unfairly labelled a racist if he did nothing wrong.

Definitely need to hear the fans side of the story. It is one of two or three things he could be shouting and one of them could very well be "black c***" and if so, then he should rightly be punished by the club and authorities.

We need to rid the club of these types who keep dragging the club's name through the mud. Whether it's racial abuse or antisemitic abuse, it's totally uncalled for and despicable.
