January 2, 20197 yr Wtf is going on in this forum. We need a new winger, I think everyone agrees in that. We have moved early to secure the services of one if the worlds leading young wingers and still the board get hammered. No one knows how this will turn out but for f**k sake can we at least try to be happy about it and maybe see him play a few games for CFC.

They are even less likely to play him now since he isn’t on the market. Even if it’s a common deal structure, why not wait till the summer then to sign him at a lower fee? No team was meeting his ridiculous asking price, as there are reservations about how good he really is. Dortmund were for months rather public in their stance that he wasn't going to be let go as he's needed for their title push, regardless of if he's starting or not. Evidently they've only agreed to sell on the basis of him staying for the remainder of the season, otherwise they could have told us to jog on and waited for the summer. Agree on the price being steep but there was obviously varying degrees of interest there from United/Arsenal/Liverpool, so not a simple case of play hardball and you're guaranteed to get him cheaper in the summer. Just as likely the opposite occurs if, say, United have a permanent manager installed and their transfer strategy becomes a lot clearer, and you have a bidding war develop. Honigstein on Sunday Supplement mentioned they were interested but not willing to enter the bidding as their new manager may not want to commit so much on one player. Would you rather he be involved in a title push and a Champions League campaign, or sitting here warming the bench and having everyone moan about him not being ahead of Willian and Pedro in the pecking order. The former scenario is fine, the latter not even a possibility for the reasons mentioned above - so it's a bit of a moot point anyway. They were never letting him go in January.

January 2, 20197 yr In my mind, I now see a front three of Hudson-Odoi, Hazard and Pulisic running teams ragged with pace, trickery and incredible interchanging movement ... the best "false nine" trio in football history :-)

If it was structured like Keita, then he could've been in limbo until the ban finished. You may ne right, I forgot about the possibiliy of the transfer ban. Still, that's a lot of money for a player, who isn't a starter currently and whose contract expires at the end of the following season. Dortmund probably insisted on him satying until summer, so I wonder why we couldn't haggle to get a smaller fee. I know he's USA's number one player and the marketing potential obviously played a part in that move, but still, a lot of money. Hopefully he's worth it, because the last guy we paid that kind of money for turned out be a huge mistake.
January 2, 20197 yr Could and should have used that 60million on a striker, we honestly have the worst board in history, he has worse numbers than willian ffs
January 2, 20197 yr https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46734487 Christian Pulisic: Chelsea sign Borussia Dortmund forward for £58m Chelsea have signed Borussia Dortmund forward Christian Pulisic for 64m euros (£58m), but will loan him back to the German club until the end of the season. The 20-year-old United States international, who was linked with Liverpool and Arsenal, joined Dortmund as a youth player in 2015. Pulisic has scored nine goals in 23 games for the US. "It's a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club," he said. Dortmund director Michael Zorc said: "It was always Christian's dream to play in the Premier League. "That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract. "Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity." Pulisic's contract at Dortmund was due to expire in June 2020. He made his Bundesliga debut, aged 17, in January 2016, and two months later won his first USA cap. Pulisic has made 81 appearances in the German top flight and played 20 games in the Champions League. He has scored three goals in 18 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund this season. Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia described Pulisic as "one of Europe's most sought-after young players". "At just 20, we believe he has the potential to become an important Chelsea player for many years to come," she said. Pulisic is the first major Premier League signing since the transfer window opened on 1 January.
January 2, 20197 yr I’ve got a feeling if it was Liverpool being confirmed instead of us everyone will be saying we should have tired harder to sign him as Willian and Pedro need replacing. Cant win.

January 2, 20197 yr Jesus.... What a load of embarrassing nonsense. How is it?? Odoi wil probably leave now ans be better than him, they are selling as he is now behind sancho who odoi was much higher regarded than, dortmund wil now also sign thorgan hazard now who is better, who we could have got for half the price

Hazard might not be here come the summer. Willian and Pedro aren't getting any younger. But yeah lets stick to the ridiculous narrative that we've signed him to replace Hudson-Odoi.
January 2, 20197 yr Welcome Pulisic! Just watched a documentary of him yesterday. Seems a level-headed. I think he is a real deal and can be important for us in the future. I hope he ends up being more of a player than an advertisement to US fans. Both aspects here are important.

I obviously hope pulisic works for us no question, just seems a strange move and way over priced
January 2, 20197 yr For that money we should have gone for Leon Bailey who is left-footed for comparison here is the clip of them from 2017/18 season :

January 2, 20197 yr I've posted a lot about this in the rumors board, but Pulisic was injured to start this season and Sancho started off on fire. That he wasn't replaced with the start that Dortmund got off to is hardly surprising. Pulisic has terrific skill and can beat a man one on one about as easily as anyone Chelsea has this side of Hazard. In the Hazard thread I've also mentioned that if Pulisic is worth this much money with 12 months left in his contract, Hazard should he worth about double. This is a long term replacement for Pedro/Willian and a player that oozes talent and has much more potential as a finished product. If you take away all of the what ifs around Hazard/Hudson-Odoi, this is a signing Chelsea fans should be happy with. I am...
January 2, 20197 yr Not sure why the negativity. We have needed a right winger for two seasons, we have signed a young player who fits the style of the manager. He has potential to be very good, time will tell if he can kick on to fulfil this. Yes he has lost his place at Dortmund but reading between the lines we probably turned his head in the summer and his contract situation has forced the move. Dortmund still clearly rate him by insisting on the loan. As others have said commercially this deal makes lots of sense, Nike will look to exploit the potential to its maximum. There is the possibility of a transfer ban and the club appear to have been pro active. Welcome Christian.
January 2, 20197 yr You are embarrassing yourself and us with bollcks like this.Ok so you are happy we spent all that money on morata? Im embarrassing because i have an opinon
January 2, 20197 yr I think my negativity is just stemming from that the board seem to pick and choose when to splash the big numbers and it is normally on the wrong players, if they also splash big money on a striker fair enough, cant see it though
