Chelsea's next manager - evergreen post

Gareth Southgate has ruled himself out of a return to club football with Chelsea, according to The Observer.

Phew!!

Stuff of nightmares that

I’d take Allardyce now rather than f**k about until the eve of the first match and appoint Lampard or Holland. All three of them will get sacked by Christmas or walk out next summer, so we might as well have the advantage of a manager spending preseason with the squad.

Whatever we do, we’re sure as eggs going to completely cock it up and somehow end up with the League Cup despite being utter sh*te and sacking two managers by Easter.

Still, whilst City are still being funded/run by the UAE, then it’s all a bit futile anyway.

I have had fun joking about this the past few weeks, but if we cannot get out of the transfer ban for this summer, I would not want Frank in here under those circumstances. Not fair to him. If we get the summer ban, why not.

I won't fall out with anyone on their views so accept mine, Mourinho as i've said before no, absolutely no, we must have very short memories to realise the carnage he caused twice, Arrogant to the core, petty minded, and lost his way here and horrendously at Utd, a team he goaded us with by saying, i'm at the biggest club i belong here, or words to that effect, im off to Peru in the morning and the rainforest will hide me from this Chelsea turmoil.

I doubt anyone will have an issue with that now since his spell at Utd the gloss has worn off though respect for the trophies he delivered while here.

This is the most uncertain, crazy off season for us in a long time and that is really saying something as we always have a certain level of uncertainty.

Sold our one world class player. Have no manager. Have no idea if we can buy players this summer.

Everyone knows we will have our challenges this upcoming year, but this is unbelievable.

I would have him, people on here are very quick to forget the legacy that man built for us it was sh*t the way the fans turned on him, a bad season after winning the league, now he literally carries zero respect in here.

On one hand I think he has lost his edge he needs to refresh his footballing ideas but I think he is someone who just has the winning way ans you can’t teach that, personally I’d have him back over the other people being touted.

Here is what he said in a recent interview and I think the self realisation that his style needs to adapt to modern football shows that he is someone who demands excellence and is always willing to get better.

"I've been using the time to work on my future, to improve my technical staff, to find a new dimension to my work, without obviously losing what I am," Mourinho said to Eleven Sports.

"It was me who, being as I am and thinking as I think, got to where I am. But my work has been at that level. I want to be better, I want to adapt, I want to reformulate myself and that's what I've been doing."

He carries zero respect because he's a prick, not because of the bad season.

Yet we sung his name for years then welcomed him back with open arms years later and sung his name again, only after all that in one season then we realised he is a “prick” ? Or did we always know he was a prick and sung his name because we are pricks?

You forgot how depressive he was? He blamed everyone but himself. He lost his charisma.
I guess yes, in and after the second season he went full prick.

We called hazard and fabregas rats when he got sacked. People blamed the players.

In hindsight, his treatment of Eva was awful and that probably began to hurt his rep with the fans. But it was when he came back as united manager and made deliberate comments about how they were a bigger club that the fans began to turn.

If after he had been sacked, gone to united, and always said "I will never talk about Chelsea because the I love the Chelsea fans" I imagine there would be a clamour now for his return.

What?? The fans stuck by him until the very end. Mourinho burnt his own bridges by selling all our upcoming talent for a quick trophy, going to a rival and then goading us in press conferences.

Mourinho may have built a legacy, but he also single-handedly destroyed it.

Bielsa anyone?

Rather not have a bottle job.

Should have had automatic promotion, bottled it.

Should have beaten Derby after spanking them every other time, bottled it.

We have to seriously consider Frank. He may refuse the job initially because of a desire to get a bit more experience under his belt but momentum in a career is very important. He was successful at Derby and it appears he has a good working relationship with Jody Morris. They appear to be a team and this is also very important. If the results turn bad at some point they would have each other to consult with. They would not be alone and it wouldn't surprise me if Frank senior and uncle Harry had some good advice along the way either. Frank has proven himself to be a smart manager by improving a mediocre Derby team into Championship contenders in one season. They beat Man Utd and Southampton and gave Chelsea a good run for their money last season. Had Aston Villa not smashed them twice they would probably have got automatic promotion.

What would happen if Frank stayed at Derby? He could get his head down and work hard all season only to miss out on promotion again. He might not but the risk is failure would make him be seen as less of a manager for some time. Anything could happen but another two seasons in the Championship would make him appear a very ordinary prospect. Why risk that when he virtually has a free shot a Chelsea because of the transfer ban. If he missed top six I don't think anybody would hold it against him. Missing out in the transfer market completely, along with losing the clubs best player would challenge any manager. Roman might want to pull the trigger but even he would surely think twice about sacking a manager of Frank's legendary status after one season. Even if he did Frank would come out of it with honours to fight another day.

It can be seen as the romantic choice but when I imagine the effect of Frank and Jody walking into Cobham I think they could pull it off. They're not a pair of bullish dictators. They know the mentality of premier league players and youth players and would know how to treat them. Jody knows most of the young players and Frank knows a few of the seniors. Between them I think they could cultivate a team ethic with a mixture experience and youth. This won't be just a couple of old players coming home. Frank isn't just a club legend, he is a Premier League legend. He always had confidence in his own ability and backed that up with, by all accounts with a second to none work ethic. The two of them will create some long overdue continuity in the club and at a time when we have a good selection of highly skilled young players coming through.

Imagine Frank and Jody stepping out on the pitch for the first home match at Stamford Bridge. The whole crowd would generate an atmosphere not seen at Chelsea  before. Imagine. A club with continuity and youth. We have been bashed by other supporters for years because our success is perceived to have been bought. We could shake that reputation off with Frank and Jody. We could change the face of the premier league by using young players and not relying on Galacticos and the City model. Roman and the board must seriously consider the potential for a new model here. The transfer ban really does limit the type of manager they can attract and Frank and Jody offer a good alternative.

I wouldn't want Jose back. In my opinion, we need to build on the base left by Sarri to start playing more attractive football. The only other guy I can think of who could do this would be the Ajax manager. Lampard is the other option, but he's had an meh season with Derby in the league. The board need to decide what they want. Roman apparently wants attractive football, so there's only a few managers out there who can do this. I honestly have no idea.
