He could maybe do a domestic cup or Europa (but even the former will be harder than usual due to Pep taking them so seriously) but the league with the type of competition he'll be facing? No chance.
November 20, 20196 yr as things stand, i'm not too concerned with jose going there. i'm sure there will an initial bounce, I wouldn't be that surprised if we lose to them next month and their gloating support treat it like winning a cup final. but I just can't see it working. the man who moans most about signings has gone to a club that can't make signings due to the huge debt on their stadium. And his style will inevitably piss off some players...who will be their luke shaw/Pogba etc? As for poch going to utd, he's better than ole but same goes for him. he's still unproven at the highest level in the sense that he has never won anything. that squad needs a lot of work and while he will get the money to spend that he hasn't before, the pressure will be tenfold. this is not to say Chelsea are the bees knees either, but I'm happily enjoying what we're doing regardless and won't waste energy worrying about what utd and spurs are up to.
November 20, 20196 yr A couple of things on twitter which I saw. May or may not be true but make of it what you will: #thfc chairman Daniel Levy was blown away by Jose Mourinho after holding talks with the manager. Jose Mourinho claimed he has spent his time away from management developing a new strategy and philosophy. [Independent] Jose Mourinho informed Daniel Levy of his recruitment plans but insisted #thfc already have one of the best squads in the league - a sentiment the chairman shared. [Independent] “Harry Kane not happy with #Mourinho appointment! #THFC” “Mourinho effect! @SpursOfficial making enquires on @NemanjaMatic #THFC #MUFC“
November 20, 20196 yr I suspect that Jose has said that he’s developed a new strategy just to get the job. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

IMO Poch was the only one keeping Kane at the club, I don't think Mourinho is enough to keep him there. I expect Kane out by the end of the season.

He's spoken about his new philosophies vaguely before and it centers around not treating today's young smartphone generation with old school discipline. It was crazy how harsh he treated Pogba for a simple harmless tweet, there were so many times he didn't need to be hard on players and he could've gotten more out of them by being chill. Tactically though I think he is capable of bringing something new to the table, again his old school 100% effort in defending and applying pressure at all times without rotating will burn out most teams unless you have a team of Willians and Ramires'. We'll just have to see what he comes up with, part of me thinks Jose will never change no matter what club he's in charge of but another part of me thinks the 15/16 season and his experience at Utd caused enough trauma for him to doubt his ways.
November 20, 20196 yr I really hope his initial interview about no manager not wanting to bring kids through and then saying the work below the manager isn’t good enough to make the players of suitable quality wasn’t a shot at Jody. If it was, it highlights just how delusional he’s become. We have continually had the most successful youth sides and now have the biggest influx to the first team since the class of ‘92 and all of it in large is to the credit of Morris.

You said he always needed a big budget, never said anything about any time frame, so winning Champions League with Porto is always going to be the main reason why he made such a career, he didn't actually spend a lot of money in Inter Milan either. I agree that he hasn't been showing any real results in his last job but we must not underestimate Spurs, specially not now! It was him that ended up signing Ashley Cole, he made Maicon a world class full-back, he switched Ramos away from the full-back position he obviously knows some things and most of all he always knew how to make a good target man work, with Diego Costa, with Milito and so on...He will have Harry Kane now and this whole squad of Spuds that were already used to be dirty, this will only multiply now. Before you tell me it doesn't matter, you need to explain to me why it doesn't, not just go off on a tangent of things I already know. Also, he spent nearly a 100 million for Inter every season, that was a lot of money then, pretty sure they were the biggest spenders then and he walked into a team that already won the Serie A for a 3rd time in a row.

If he signs Matic, it's time to rejoice. The is a square peg in a round hole with the squad around him.

Well you said first a false statement, then added a time period to it. If there is anything that Jose did do in his whole career, that is to win with teams that were considered as dark horses more or less, Spurs is one of those teams in the last few years believe it or not. Another thing, 100m euros in total for 2 season in Inter, that's basically nothing...his most expensive player he ever got in Inter was Milito for 25m euros lol he spent more while being here the first time, basically Essien cost more than his most expensive Inter player he ever got so no he didn't spend a lot in Inter but he did win everything he possibly could win there in just 2 seasons. Pep also walked in Man city that was already a top 3-4 team in the league, did it matter? Edited November 20, 20196 yr by Gol15
November 20, 20196 yr Mourinho is just whoring himself off to whatever club will take him at this point. You would have to be pretty desperate to take charge of them ? Mourinho going to Tottenham has killed the last bit of love he will get from any Chelsea fans I think. Even if he is our most successful manager ever, there is no way the fanbase will forgive him for this move.
November 20, 20196 yr You will get new manager bounce which will be done by January then the moaning starts. I am keen to see his opinion on var when it goes against him and which player he will chuck under the bus first at slightest sign of bad form

November 20, 20196 yr Anyone seen his first interview? Talking about passion, the squad, youth. So weird seeing him in a Spurs outfit.
November 20, 20196 yr Pretty rich coming from the guy who had young KdB and Salah but chose to play and stick with Matic and Willian instead.

Its ironic that Willian so far this season is having a better one than KDB though I do expect that to change. Media talk of JM getting 30 year old Bale to Spurs, though I would love to see how that attacking duo would work don't think it will happen.
November 21, 20196 yr Tbh I stopped adoring Mourinho when he went to Man Utd. I understand Spurs could be the final straw for a lot of Chelsea fans. I think Jose getting sacked second time here has left him wanting to get one over us, hence joining United and now Spurs. Shows what kind of a guy he is really.

Pep also walked in Man city that was already a top 3-4 team in the league, did it matter? What was the false statement? The Porto CL win was over 15 years ago, that's a long time. Time is absolutely relevant, every other side he's went at he has been a cheque book manager, let's just face facts here. He's no doubt been an incredible manager, not every man can win with pressure, some get to the top and crumble, Mourinho with the resources has produced results. But he's had resources, you can't deny them. He had a warchest at Chelsea, Inter, Madrid and United, that's just a fact... He hasn't been a dark horse at all, not since his Porto days which again were over 15 years ago. Since then he has been at top teams with resources. The United side he walked into was definitely more challenging than the sides he walked into for Chelsea(twice), Inter and Madrid, but he had the luxury of spending hundreds of millions on any player he wanted for the first two years, and even in the 3rd season he was allowed to spunk 70 million on a sh*t player like Fred. 100m POUNDS, not Euro's, how on earth is that nothing? During 2008 spending that type of money was a lot of money, spending a 100 million a season was considered buying the league, he walked into a very strong Inter side that Mancini already built and won three titles with. You forget the fact that he brought in numerous for players for 20 millions, and even then 20 million then is considered around 40-50 million now. I don't think you know what a dark horse means, he's definitely walked into a difficult job here that's definitely more of a challenge than he's had elsewhere, he'll have less resources than he's ever had.

More Oscar than Matic tbf, which imo was worse. Oscar was a player who looked incredible at 20-21 years old then he just didn't develop, Mourinho turned him into a workhorse and that's basically all he came to be, him and Willian during our title winning season had like 5-6 assists and goals between them, it was a low figure on the statsheet, everything went through Hazard and Fabregas. KDB and Salah are two of Mourinho's glaring mistakes.
