He defends and works hard enough that hed be a great 4th attacking option, but too often he's our 2nd or third. Who is a perfect person out there? Willian has his own strengths and yes, he has his own weaknesses. This is life, that is life. Let's take him for who he is. What I know is that Willian is not a bad player, even Eden Hazard over there in Madrid is yet to score any goal this season and nobody is crying. Willian has scored at least two goals for us this season, it's not that bad. Edited October 2, 20196 yr by hephzibah
October 2, 20196 yr Kepa 8 - One hairy moment but very good overall and saved the points slipping away. Tomori 6 - Was outstanding until 2 massive lapses late on. Zouma 6 - Very shaky start but got better Azpilicueta 7 - Solid Alonso 7 - Defended well enough, wasn't too impressed with the attacking but overall a good effort. James 5 - Poor CL debut Kante 6 - Below his usual super standard. Jorginho 7 - Battled, passed well. Mount 6 - Minimal contribution. Willian 7 - Average until but scored Abraham 7 - Good goal, limited service but still had moments of good play.

Tammy did well, considering the awful service given to him. Mount disappointing. As others have said, Timori played well but made unforced errors. I'm sure this won't affect him like it did Christensen. James looks a bit overweight to me. Was told he'd walk into the team once fit, but doesn't look ready atm. Kante looked nowhere near fit, so why risk him? CHO. Pass for the goal but nothing else. Commentator said William goal was a bit lucky. See Willians head and body shape when he hit it and you can see he defo meant to hit the shot into ground exactly where he hit it knowing it would bounce sharply and awkwardly for the keeper. Again, not the best quality performance but a crucial, grritty away win was more important than lovely football today! Nail on the head imo.
October 2, 20196 yr A much needed win tonight after gifting Valencia 3 points, and we're still very much in this. Stoked for Frank and the boys. Tammy is looking the real deal, Mason Mount is everywhere despite playing out of position, CHO with another assist, Reece James looked a bit shakey but I can't wait to see more of him once he's fully match fit. Tomori despite a few mistakes towards the end was excellent yet again. This has got to be the most exciting time to be a Chelsea fan in a long, long time. Genuinely look forward to every game.

He can be also be incredibly lazy at times too. I just feel like you could say this about any attribute. Willian covers ground better than most players, he's pacy and puts in the distance each game, it's what he brings that keeps getting him on the field with every manager we've had. There are a lot of bare minimums that are missed across the board.
October 2, 20196 yr this goal is worth another look first the volley, then to pound the ball into the turf - well played Slick Willie
October 2, 20196 yr 1 hour ago, robdog said: FYP Also, I guess we won't hear from @RIP Mourinho after Slick Willie scores the winning goal Was garbage the entire game, him losing the ball lead to the attack for their goal and his goal was miss-hit into the ground and took a lucky bounce over the keeper. You were saying..?

No one knows what happened between him and Conte maybe something similar to Costa but to say Conte was a Saint and Willian wronged him is silly he was a miserable sod since the first minute of the second season.... Winds me up when people defend Conte over anything in the last 6 months, he took the piss out of every single Chelsea fan with his attitude, especially the one's who travelled to City.
October 2, 20196 yr Frightfully Happy to get our first CL win this season. However I was not happy overall: 1) We need to deal with set pieces, something has to change 2) Our back three made too many errors for the well being of my health 3) Kante was well below par today, and I am unable to judge Reece James from today's performance, I have high hopes 4) We need to start with CHO every game, period, no execptions. Like Hazard he changes games. Can't wait to have RLC, CHO and Mount in the same team Lastly I honestly think our Academy players are worth over $200M, they are all so amazing Happy time to have beer...............Cheers
October 2, 20196 yr 1 hour ago, Scott Harris said: There are plenty of reasons why, and it's been pointed out for years. I'll praise him for the goal tonight, but that doesn't wash away how frustrating of a footballer he has been for us, especially in recent seasons. I don't like to praise a player for their work rate too much, it should be the bare minimum requirement from any player. He can be also be incredibly lazy at times too. There has been plenty of times where he just gives the ball away, throws his hands in the air and gives up. As for respect, you have to earn it. I haven't liked the comments coming from him in the media over the years, especially when Conte was here. He was incredibly unprofessional during Conte's final months, even though it was Conte that got the best out of him. All of these things are true. But tonight he won the game for us with a great goal. 3 points because of him and that's 2.7m euros. As much as he is frustrating he scored a great goal vs uefalona the previous time we played in the knockout stage of the CL and now today as well, in these big games he has solved the puzzle for us. It's these impacts that keep him in the squad.
October 2, 20196 yr Far from a perfect performance, but fantastic result overall considering the poor result against Valencia two weeks back.

Genuinely look forward to every game I feel exactly the same way. There's genuine excitement watching the boys play and you can see a strong future ahead of us though it will take time and patience to see it fully blossom. I think Frank being coach has given us the extra will to really get behind the team this year. This was something that was missing last season with Sarri in my opinion.

You were saying..? I'm not a Willian cheerleader, but no way was the goal a mis-hit! Just take a close look at his body shape and where he's looking at the moment of impact on the ball. He is clearly aiming to hit it hard onto the pitch. I agree that overall he didn't have a good game, but credit where it's due for an immportant goal. Edited October 2, 20196 yr by Dixons
October 3, 20196 yr Body shape or no body shape I can't believe anyone would think they are good enough to hit a volley and make it bounce over the goalie's head. I reckon it was lucky but that's not a knock there will be plenty of unlucky shots. Willlian does great except his final ball often lets him down. Overall the biggest problem besides the crap zonal marking was by and large we did a crap job of bringing the ball out from the back until about minute 70 when Jorginho started getting a lot more space. The back 3 system has potential but wasn't that well executed tonight.

The back 3 system has potential but wasn't that well executed tonight. There's a Lille defender a few feet away from Willian right in line with the keeper and blocking nearly all the goal at that angle. It would have been imposible to score at the near post. Too close to the goal to hit with power and go straight over the defender and keeper then dip sharply into the goal. The only other way he could have scored with a volley from that posistion would have been to swerve it with the outside of his foot and bend it inside the far post, which would have been more difficult than what he chose to do.
October 3, 20196 yr Hard lot to please on here I’ve just settled down with a bong hit lite beer & shot tequila to enjoy the replay of the very entertaining CL away tie I saw earlier We win away a tough slog it was yet all I’ve read on this fan forum board is mostly a lot of ill informed critique from mostly a bunch moaning ingrates. Why not follow City ? you know your gonna see an impeccable squad, full on press and goals plus most results are wins , every player beyond reproach nearly every match. A top experienced trophy laden manager. Rich owners & about to dominate the league for many a year to come. Me I’m chuffed to bits with Franks tenure and the result today we have academy graduates playing in the 1st team just as it was when I first went to the Bridge. I make no apologies for being an Englishman who finds the local boys in the 1st team just as good as winning every match like City. William is an easy target but maybe think outside the box, these young lads need a few older heads on the pitch - let’s face it apart from Kante & Jorginho most of the senior players are on a par with Willy talent/ stats/ usefulness to the team & gameplan. But they are still a vital part of the squad so why bother constantly slagging them? There’s a transfer ban even if they were that freakin awful the club can’t move them on until it can replace most of them. So the glass is half full Tammy has today scored his 1st CL goal on his birthday. Last player to net on his b day JFH 2004. KEEP THE FAITH ? Edited October 3, 20196 yr by General Bad spelling

October 3, 20196 yr WIllians goal he absolutely meant to hit it low, maybe not into the ground to bounce over the keeper, but he shaped to keep it low. Anyway, I do like the fact that Frank is willing to change personnel and formation midway though the match. I felt we were starting to lose it in the middle around the time he brought CHO on. Bringing him on and then changing to a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 was exactly what was needed at the time. Also, massive kudos to Kepa, absolutely won this for us. This whole team is still learning, but we just went away and beat a Lille side that has, by all accounts including the French press running up to the game, were heavily favoured. The type of performance we needed. Kante isn't fit, and that was obvious, so I think he should be rested next game out against Southampton
October 3, 20196 yr Good result. Thought Lille were a LOT better than Valenica. That defeat still bugs me, we should being facing Ajax for top spot not slogging it out to survive. Kepa man of the match, superb. As were Tammy and Tomori, mistakes aside. Zouma also played really well.
October 3, 20196 yr I really hate what VAR has done to my experience of watching the game. Tammy scores. I look to the ref, the lino, no flag, I should be celebrating. Instead I am left to wait to see if VAR will chalk it off and by the time they come back i am just relieved that they do not.
