So the question is, how far back should var look...they didn't want to be fair, they were on a mission to find a contact exactly where they knew they could find it, and nothing else matters then. It's not a fair system, not even close.
November 2, 20196 yr Author FFS just run over to the touchline and check the tv, why wont they change it ? are they worried about players/staff crowding the ref around the tv ? i just dont see the reason for not allowing the ref to check the tv himself.

We should have won this by 3-4 minimum He probably meant HE deserved a draw, because he was the only Watford player that was any good today.
November 2, 20196 yr ‘Contact’ ? Foul. I felt that VAR got it right with CHO (no penalty, although the yellow for diving was harsh) and got it wrong today. But in both cases VAR should not have overruled the referee’s decision since any errors were not clear and obvious. I can accept that it’s new technology and these guys are not the sharpest tools in the box but it’s really not that complicated. If there’s any doubt whatsoever (and if there wasn’t, why did they deliberate for so long today?) then they should stay the f**k out.

The part that most impressed me about Pulisic over the last 3 years had been his excellent off the ball runs. Once his Chelsea mates able to find him more and early, there will be lots more goals/assists from Pulisic.
November 2, 20196 yr I thought we played some classy football today, a thoroughly well deserved 3 pts. A bit more clinical in the final third and we could easily have scored a half dozen. Jorginho and Kovacic ran teh show and Tammy showed some good centre forward play. Our two goals were a joy to watch , the through ball from Jorginho and exquisite finish from Tammy for the first and the run from Pulisic to get onto the good ball in from Abraham. As for the penalty, football seriously needs to look at itself if that was a foul. Taylor made the correct call in the first place and should have the courage of his convictions to at least review it himself on the pitchside monitor. It gave us a nervy last 10 mins that took the gloss from a very good performance. One small negative ( I don't normally like to have a go at an 18 yr old) but when you come on Callum for the final 15 mins I expect to see you putting maximum effort in to close players down like your teamates have for the previous 75 mins.

One of these days, we’ll get one in our favour and we’ll all be happy. Btw, excessive-dicking-around-in-our-own-box aside, Kova really good including in the final third, no? Some would-be assists and even (I had to rub my eyes) a shot on target! Thought he had another good game as the defensive screen. Still not enough for me in the final third though Dean. He is getting forward more. He is getting into scoring positions. He has to make it count. End of. The ball back to Jorginho in our own box was a very poor decision. But we have seen similar from Tomori. As a team, when we are under pressure, we need to be pragmatic and know when to play and when to hoof it.
November 2, 20196 yr We are 6 points ahead of the 5th place, very pleased with that. We are playing good entertaining football, it looks like defence is also getting better, we only need to be a bit more clinical. And we have Rudi,, Kante, RLC to come back from injury. Exciting times at Chelsea!
November 2, 20196 yr VAR should be for the good of the game but with our leagues biased refs it’s just ended up as a cowards way to influence the match anyhow they see fit. I could get my head round it a bit more if last weeks with CHO and today’s was either both penalties or both not penalties. What I don’t like is according to VAR there’s night and day between the 2 incidents where one got booked for diving and another got rewarded with a penalty. And guess which team is on the wrong end of both decisions. I seriously savour every single Premier League victory because we have to put up with so much sh*t/ borderline corruption from officials compared to other teams. Edited November 2, 20196 yr by 2211

A thought that occurred to me is if we’re going to do this VAR thing (I’m not necessarily against it, if anything marginally in favour) which is, at the end of the day, a reshaping of the rules of the game, maybe other rules need to be revisited and tweaked accordingly? A penalty is basically a goal - 8-9/10 or whatever the stats are. Shouldn’t the criteria for awarding a penalty therefore be made more stringent - ie only if a clear-cut goal-scoring opportunity was prevented? This clearly wasn’t one, was never going to result in a goal and the attack had been thwarted. Yet they get a goal. Would this make sense to an intelligent alien? Just thinking our loud. It’s probably a whole other can of worms.
November 2, 20196 yr Watching how many times he had to view that 'foul' there's no way he can justify it as clear and obvious. He wasn't even sure and he overturned the referee! Funny how many decisions VAR overturns but how incredibly rare it is for them to overturn a red or give retrospective diving punishment in seasons past. So will the FA admit that they were incompetent and getting it wrong in these panels in past season or that they're getting it wrong now?

It's still a human decision at the end of the day. VAR is being used very effectively in the Bundesliga and World Cup.

It’s probably a whole other can of worms. The whole rulebook needs to be re-examined if we are going to judge to the minutest detail. Before that though the simplest thing to do is for the referee on the fie HAS to look at the monitor if there is a doubt regarding a foul. That of course though would have called into question the VAR officials judgement and the officials seem reluctant to really overall each other like some secret handshake brigade.
November 2, 20196 yr We all know how farcical the use of VAR is, but I'm going to highlight it even more. Less than a month ago, Watford was playing against Tottenham and Vertonghen not once, but twice, fouls Deleofeu. The ref gave no penalty, just like in our game, and guess what happened next..........VAR didn't overturn the decision, even when everybody could see that it was a clear and obvious error. SKIP TO 1:00 Now somebody plese explain to me how they can say the ref made a clear and obvious error against us, but at the same time say the one against Tottenham wasn't a clear and obvious error? I have come to two conclusions. One, it's easy to give a decision against Chelsea, nobody is going to kick up a fuss about it compared to other teams, and two, the refs are incompetent and make it up as they go along.
November 2, 20196 yr Frank is as puzzled about VAR as the rest of us. https://www.bbc.com/sport/av/football/50276153
November 2, 20196 yr At the ground not even the Watford supporters thought they were going to be given that penalty. And there was a handball in their area afterwards that var never reviewed. Rubbish refereeing. Anyways, we were the better team and got the three points as deserved. Up the Chels!
November 2, 20196 yr I'm going to do it again now. Today's game, Bournmouth Vs United. There is contact between Martial and the Bournmouth player, the ref doesn't give the penalty, VAR sides with the ref. How is that less of a penalty than the one against us? If anything, there is more contact on Martial than what we seen in our game. SKIP TO 40 SECONDS The inconsistencies cannot be ignored. People say things like "it will sort itself out" but how do we know it will? The reason why we have VAR in the first place is because refs were getting so many decisions wrong, those same refs are in control of VAR, so why do people think things will improve?
November 2, 20196 yr Martial totally played for that. Slight contact with his left leg but trails his right toe along the ground to emphasise the fall.
November 2, 20196 yr Lets take a second to laugh at Man U. They played their starters against our second team in the carabao cup and won. Then lost in the league to bournemouth. May be they should have prioritized the league over the carabao cup
November 2, 20196 yr question how the tackle by Hughes on Emerson not a PK, but Jorginho's tackle on Deleofeu is? Neither challenge got the ball either, so both should be PK's right?
November 2, 20196 yr Really sucks that jorginho will miss the game against palace because of that stupid yellow card.

It will not improve, as the whole VAR story is a farce,, it's not the use of technology but rather other referees like Mike. Dean today making decisions behind a screen. Goal line technology is actually a technology that improved decisions in football.

November 2, 20196 yr Kovacic MOTM for me, definitely. The attacking trio of Pulisic, Mount and Willian were very good too. My heart was racing up and down in those final stages. Any equalizer for them would be totally unjust. We totally dominated that match. 6 points above Arsenal with a considerable better goal difference. United losing too. Wow. Annoying that Jorginho will be suspended for that Palace game as we need to win that before that City game. Loved Lamps post-match interview. He is so composed and speaks well. Abraham also scoring again after going without 3 games or so without a goal was refreshing to see and back to back assists for him too.
