Pretty decent. OK I'll go along with that.

A club record transfer of £90m is a heck of a fee for a 21 year old though.

I can see the value in the Ziyech fee as he has proven himself at the highest level. I'm not knocking Havertz but the eye watering fee scares me on someone so young. Its a risk and Roman must know that. I remember Joe Cole saying how good Hazard was before he signed and I felt really confident about the £32m fee. I've seen quite a lot of clips of Havertz and he has lot of different skills and is initiative. He is a little gangly and his movement sometimes reminds of, wait for it, Tore Andre Flo, who was also pretty decent. £90m? Lets see how he faces up to crunching tackles from the likes of VVD and Maguire.

I hope he tears up the PL!

I don't think we need to be skeptical. We need to stop being lower than clubs like Liverpool and Man City. They have Van Dijk, debruyne, Walker etc. I don't think people like Mount, Loftus Cheek,  Cho are at the level of these guys. They can be in the squad with our major signings but not that they should be the only ones in the squad. When I look at Bruno, Debruyne, Rashford, Bernando's Silva etc., I think that players like Mount, RLC, CHO may have occasional brilliance but they don't have consistent brillance. What Chelsea needs to compete with City, Liverpool and Utd is consistent brillance. Havertz may be able to give that to us.

But would you have been up for Sancho at 120 million euros?

A winger to me is far more high risk of becoming just another quick player with a few tricks and not enough end product than a guy that is intelligent, technical and can play in several different positions, offers you goals, playmaking, distribution, creativity...

That type of player is the rarest to come by It means they not only have technical ability and intelligent but end product, you can cover over faults with pace and step overs and going past players, you can’t fake being a Zidane type of player.

When you find one of those that can do what he can do  it’s a “generational talent” it’s not a stab in the dark there is consensus that this is what this young man is, it’s not hype, it’s observation.

Is there a risk with a high price tag, yes always, and if you want to be an average club, financially sensible, not taking risks then sure pass him up.

If you want to be elite, the best, then you go after the best, we have a rare opportunity and we have gone after it, it’s amazing anyone who wants to see Chelsea compete at elite levels would find issue with this.

This isn’t a shot at you so forgive me but In general the type of fan who would object to this is the type that gets an insurance policy for their budgie.

We want to be the best so we have to go in and take calculated risks, as stands we can’t afford or attract the top tier players at career peaks, so we have to buy them younger and even havertz we would not have got him under normal circumstances, we are doing the absolute right thing here to project us back to elite levels, talent attracts more talent.

Leverkusen obviously tried to make things harder here. All other targets have been signed + extra younger players as well.

How is everybody doing today? Hope all is well

I'm about to clock off for the long weekend so things are looking up,  just the long commute home left.  Although the route from the back bedroom to the front room can be a nightmare at times, especially the Friday before the bank holiday weekend.  Thanks for asking hope you're doing well my friend.

I’m doing great thank you. Getting ready to go to a friends tonight for a few beers and takeaway. Doing a 7 mile hike tomorrow morning, how about yourself?

It's been a long week at work - at least I still have a job unlike some unlucky folks here - so I am ready for the weekend and could also use a few adult beverages myself. Hope the company and hike tomorrow suit you well

They're probably delaying it on purpose whilst trying to get their transfer targets over the line without them being rinsed by other clubs.

Disagreements over bonuses is the funniest thing I've ever heard in football.

I think this will go on for another week or so. Not ideal because we all want him in the team asap...but he’ll be getting match fitness with the National side so I wouldn’t worry about that. I’m not worried about him missing the first couple of games either, our midfield is pretty solid so we can cope. Just wish Leverkusen weren’t such dicks about it 😂
