May 13, 20224 yr Criticism is over the top imo. He’s had a relatively poor (not terrible) few months after an excellent season and a half. His weakness is with the ball at his feet but I think he can get back to not getting exposed by it.

May 14, 20224 yr Should have saved two penalties. He got enough of his hand to them, he just couldn't keep them out.

May 14, 20224 yr I thought he did brilliantly with the penalty save at a crucial moment. Unfortunately he was let down by azpi and Mount with very poorly taken pens. In my eyes he is a world class and we lucky to have him.

Don't think he played with any of them before. How many hours did he spend going through their players previous penalties? Did Mendy? Am guessing likely not. Hard work pays off.
May 15, 20224 yr If we had Allison in goal for the two pens that Mendy got a hand to (but let in), we would have won the cup. Has to save them.

Personally I feel he’d be very difficult to replace, he’s still a top class keeper for me. He does have weaknesses but he makes up for that with a lot of good saves. I’d like us to replace Kepa though, he’s shocking.

May 15, 20224 yr I seem to remember another shootout, may the afcon final? where he got a few hands to balls but failed to get a strong hand on them. He could improve on that aspect, also distribution needs work as we know. What a shot of adrenaline and excitement he gave me when he stopped Mane though.

It's good to see him finally starting to save some and get close to others though (even if he should do better). He's clearly been working hard at it as he use to be an absolute shambles with pens. He'll likely never be an expert at it but atleast now I'll have some hope when he's facing one.

Personally I'd just like to win the next couple of finals before penalties 😂
May 15, 20224 yr Author At the end of the day, you have to trust Cech's judgement on his choice of Mendy ... and that's good enough for me !

But that also means he should work very hard on his ball distribution and decision making when under pressure. Didn't cost us the final obviously but when he's receiving the ball under a wee bit of pressure (or at times even without any as well) it feels like a 50/50 if we end up in a worse situation than before passing to him.
July 29, 20223 yr I'm worried about Mendy this coming season. Has been poor for a while and that is putting it politely. The fact that he came in and could catch the ball from a cross ( I had a heart attack every time the ball was crossed with Kepa!) has masked his limitations.

Couldn’t catch a cross first game of the season! Same as you I’m worried also. Kepa is arguably a better shot stopper and definitely better with his feet, tough to say but I’d prefer Kepa in goal at the moment. And in typical Chelsea fashion when a player starts to lose form we start negotiating a longer contract lol.

Have to agree with you on kepa being no were near Mendy, but I don't feel Mendy is good enough as our number one goalie,I understand other positions are to be sorted first bit I would definitely look for a better goalie eventually.
