September 1, 20232 yr Despite Southgate’s clear inconsistencies with other positions as mentioned (Maguire, Phillips and Henderson), Sterling is in a bit of a predicament with England tbf, due to the existence of Saka. It would take a monumental season for us, absolutely smashing records to even consider Saka’s starting position. So, despite that bit of injustice I can understand why maybe Southgate would rather have another youngster as Saka’s back-up than Sterling who would probably command the dressing room.

Sterling tends to play on the left for England though, generally competing with Grealish and Rashford. Given that Grealish managed a whopping 5 goals and 7 assists in Manchester City's best ever-season, playing alongside Haaland at that, it's probably him at most threat of being replaced for the Euros if Sterling or Maddison has a good season.
September 5, 20232 yr I'm convinced that England managers are too scared to pick too many Chelsea players at the same time. Other fans and the media get all upset about it. Even back in the Mourinho era we had Lampard, Cole and Terry booed by certain fans and the only one they did actually like Joe Cole was constantly told he should leave Chelsea despite him regularly playing for us. Even when Reece James plays there's a week long media debate about why TAA is needed for England. I truly believe England managers know picking too many Chelsea players would lead to hassle for them. And not replacing an injured Grealish with Sterling while picking Maguire and Philips who literally hardly ever play for their club sides makes the whole process hypocritical and suspicious IMO. September 6, 20232 yr If I was southgate, I would not pick Sterling either. He has been out of form for most of season, where he openly admitted he had his diet and attitude all wrong. Ok- he has looked pretty good in 2 games this season (Luton and Westham) and ok in 1 other (liverpool) - but that for me is not sufficient for a call up to the national team. If his recent improved form continues, then he should get recalled - but 1 swallow doesn't make a summer . Edited September 6, 20232 yr by nonotnowjim
September 24, 20232 yr Criminal footballer. Absolutely dogsh*t in preseason. Turned up for 2 halves of football against west ham and Luton then back to bring a dogsh*t player. Missed a couple of 1 on 1s, at nil nil, constantly makes the wrong decision, struggles to get past his man. Top earner at the club. Hopefully he is gone in January and we can somehow bring in an experienced player that can actually contribute.
September 24, 20232 yr Just seen this one. This is our experienced head in attack. Couldve given Jackson a confidence boosting tap in.

That has always been Sterling though, and why City’s board scoffed at his wage demands and were happy to sell him. He is a still a decent player if you use him as a player getting him on the end of things, even though he will continue to frustrate fans with his misses. You would think a top coach like Poch should know this but he keeps playing him as a creator.

Nobody should want Sterling involved in the build up of attacks, he's sh*t at it, always has been. Don't let anybody say fans don't know what they are talking about either, because we have all been saying this about Sterling for years.
