Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea

TBH I'm a bit surprised by the reactions here. Sterling has never been a natural finisher nor IMO has he been a consistent player at any point in his career except for maybe a period, years ago, in his Liverpool days. He is always capable of games where he comes off the field and you would rate him a 9 out 10 and the best player on the pitch. But he will then often follow that up with four or five games where he will range anywhere from a 5 to a 7. There is very little consistency in his game and as he gets older that becomes even more apparent. That said, he has been miles better this season than he was last season IMO but he will never be in the same league as a Hazard and TBH I am shocked that some people thought he would be.

There was a big argument by City fans that Sterling was better than Hazard because he scored more goals, used to wind me up. f**king laughable now, he's leagues behind Hazard, not even close.

Thing that pissed me off was he didn’t even hold his hand up when he failed to pass for a certain goal

if you look at it palmer is screaming at him yet he just turns around and trots off

Think that’s what annoys me the most showed no sign he made a mistake just turned and trodded away.

He's an utter w**ker and always has been, I never wanted him here at our club from the beginning.

Jealousy isn't it, Palmer's obviously a better player... got the England call and all that

This is what annoys me when pundits state he's our best player, he really isn't. What shocks me is how he hasn't realised as a professional footballer that he could be smashing assists weekly if he stopped being so selfish.

I've only played at a semi pro level, but players like that are infuriating to play with.

Mate we'd be going up and down with Luton without Sterling.

That is how tragic we are.

Been a while since we had a player that strikes a free kick as well as Raheem this season.

Like watching Mata back in his pomp.

There's little love for our Raheem but if any of our young players end up half the player Sterling is they'll have had great careers.

He was horrible in the first half, better in the second. Concerning that he can only perform against Championship standard opposition.

He was fine the first 20 minutes, disappeared for the next 25 then much improved in the second half.

Much more concerning is that Mudryk can't even perform at that level.

Sterling and Madueke against Boro has to be the call.

Sterling is more concerning because he's the most senior attacking player we have and he can't do it against anything more than Championship level. Mudryk is bad, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Sterling has never been a reliable player.

Brilliant free kick again. Hats off too him for that.

Did he do anything else though? Could not watch the game so I actually don't know.

He got the MOTM so clearly did something right!

Stated it elsewhere so repeating myself a bit. First 20 minutes he was by far the brightest option up front. Made runs, created space and gave the likes of Enzo passing options. Then disappeared until half time.

Second half he was back to the player of the first 20 minutes. Still a little greedy on occasion but was at least taking players on and putting the defence on the back foot (as did Madueke when he came on).

His greed (on the pitch) I think stopped him from being a better player than he has been.

The greats either are greedy and back it up by scoring, or passing when they have a team mate they know will score.

Quality free kick but he's such an annoying player at times. When the ball comes to him he slows the move down so much and whenever he runs in the box it feels like he's trying to win a penalty rather than trying to look for a shot or a passing opportunity

That is because in recent years his strength has been in getting on the end of balls. He stopped carrying the ball two seasons before he left City, either his legs are gone or he isn’t convinced he has the ability to go pass players/play the right ball.

Not sure how they gave him MOM but most of the commentators are twats .

Gusto MOM for me , Sterling too selfish for me although I do understand all great strikers are like that except Sterling isn't a great .

Gusto was brilliant both flanks, real gem.. Was my man of the match too.

if he knew how to make the correct pass it would be great..but he never does. always slows us down and likes to run into a crowd of players to eventually loose the ball..the free kick was great though.also he shoots when he knows he won't score and a simple pass would give us a much better chance, oh he is also weak and falls over/dives constantly

Sterling drove at the opposition constantly, not with the skill of Hazard at his best but with desire and pace. The idea he can only do it against championship teams is risible. Erratic, misses many easy chances but also scores and creates. Still has plenty of pace and is still going well after Hazard has finished. And he is good at those free kicks. He sometimes scores them in contrast to anyone else we’ve had since Alonso.

And most significantly we can only pick players who are in our squad. If its a straight choice between Sterling and Mudryk I'd pick Sterling first every time ..and probably Pochettino second

It was another game where the people who watched for 90 minutes would say he was average, but with an assist and a goal he seems like our best player.

He pops up with something special every so often but we play better without him.

I think the best piece of transfer business we could do in the summer is to get the Saudis to take him off us.
