August 5, 20223 yr Author #Chelsea have made it clear they would be willing to pay over £70M for Wesley Fofana, with Leicester City thought to value him at over £80M - talks are ongoing despite the club's insistence that he is not for sale. [via @Matt_Law_DT]
August 5, 20223 yr Ben Jacobs: Chelsea's latest bid for Wesley Fofana is over £70m and won't be the last one made if rejected. Brendan Rodgers again said Fofana isn't for sale, but Todd Boehly means business. Fofana is Chelsea's number one target between now and when window shuts.
August 5, 20223 yr Seems like we're going in hard for him. He'd be perfect despite the huge fee. If we could get him on a six year deal like Cucu then that would also be great and the 80 odd mill price tag may not seem as bad then.

August 5, 20223 yr Seems likely don't it, we paid what it took to get Cucurella and it seems both TT and Fofana really want this deal to happen.

This guy has come back from an injury and played a few games since, was he even that good to begin with? £85m gets you any defender in the world Yes. He was that good. And will get even better. His potential ceiling is so high it would be impossible to change the light bulb.
August 5, 20223 yr 2 minutes ago, just said: Yes. He was that good. And will get even better. His potential ceiling is so high it would be impossible to change the light bulb. I guess I never really seen him play. Well he is really tall and we need some height in there and the whole light bulb thing is good the the environment I guess. Would be worth it if he stays for 10+ years which is not hard for a 21 year old.
August 5, 20223 yr I've never been a fan of big money purchases. Like ridiculous money. Even Lukaku was nauseating but I was happy we went with that rather than Haaland because the intention of his agent, with the payments he wanted for himself and Dad and all the extras, was to bleed any fool for as much as he could. Yes city got him for less than £70m but we don't hear about the other costs that they would have incurred. This Ben Jacob chap if he really was a Boehly friend is a bit of a wicked friend and if not a friend then just a foolish person maybe. Why would you keep saying Chelsea have offered £70m but will go higher if turned down. Where's the incentive for Leicester to sell when they think or know Boehly will increase the bid. Which he shouldn't because Leicester already know that the player wants the move. Current offer is great in my view but they are being greedy. Edited August 5, 20223 yr by abister1
August 5, 20223 yr For 80M and 200k a week, should be bidding for 1 of the world class defenders out there. Say whatever about McGuire, he was the best shining thing out there when United made him the expensive defender out there. We could all agree Fofafa has potential, but he hasn't achieved anything to be worthy that much money. He's a couple of years older than Colwill, whom we happily send away for long term loans.

Maguire was bought on the cheap from Hull played 2 seasons for Leicester then got sold for £80 million. What else did he achieve apart from conning Utd he’s worth a record fee. He’s not gone backwards he’s the same limited player he was at Leicester, Far from special. Fofana was seen as big potential and bought for £35m, second most in Leicesters history. I can’t see any comparison between the two.
August 6, 20223 yr £80m is such alot of money for a player. There is such a bad history of big deals failing. They rarely work out.

Scouting the right player is a lot more important than the fee. Maguire and Van Dijk only played around 70 games for their previous sides before being bought for £80 & £75 million. Similar price big difference in quality.

If this means us nor getting a striker or an incisive midfielder then surely we can spend our money more wisely. I am sure he will be excellent but wasn't Havertz a "generational talent". Is he seriously that much better than a Gvardiol, Skriniar, Baston. We would probably get any one of them for 25m less.
August 6, 20223 yr If Leicester are being stubborn then we should look towards Gvardiol or Skriniar. It'll be at least 50m anyway or We could try for Saliba from Arsenal. He looked PL ready
