Kalidou Koulibaly

Sportswashing our hands of our terrible decisions.

Shame about Koulibaly, think he would have looked decent in a proper structure, but he's undeniably surplus to requirements with the amount of centre-back talent we now have available. Wish him all the best!

Feel abit sorry for KK. I think he would have been ok next season. However, I did expect abit more from him.

Amazing that we’ve been able to shift him. Good work by the club.

Never going to happen. His legs have gone and he doesn't exaclty have the greatest football brain to make up for it. Getting him sold really dug us out of a bit of trouble.

Ziyech will join Al-Nassr for around €10m.

Koulibaly will join Al-Hilal for around €20m.🇸🇦

Significant FFP losses, however big savings on players we would have been stuck with.

I still don't really undertstand this to be honest. As these were signed last year and the FFP calculation is done over three years, does it mean that whatever our overall losses on these deals are, we would then divide these by three with just the first third contributing to this periods calculation. Then presumably years 2 and 3 woudl ahev been further offset by teh wages not havign to be paid to them.

Aaargh, its too hot for this level of brain activity.

Somebody please explain this to me...as you would a simpleton ( I am not sure if that is a usable word nowadays, apologies if not)

Basically if a player signs a 4 year deal for 40mill his book value goes down a quarter each year, so 10mill. That 10mill is on that years FFP books.

If the player is sold after a year his remaining book value, in this case 30mill, is due all that same year, not over 3 years.

So if he is sold for 15mill, he counts as a FFP loss of 15mill for that years books.

I'd like to know if FFP works on revenue and not profit, because based on its definitions it works on the club's revenue.

Works on spending plus book losses exceeding revenue.

So that constitutes as the spending which couldn't exceed 90% of revenue for the 3 year period.

Accounting was and continues to be confusing as f**k to me.

I'm a writer not an accountant but I do recall getting a B for Accounting at school. I vaguely recall something about "never debit the sales account". I might offer my services to Mr Boehly.

Yeah but in the case of Koulibaly... He cost us 36 and signed on a 4 year contract... So that's 9 million per year. 9 million are written off already, and another 9 would have been written off this year, so that would leave 18 million for the next two years still to be written off.

If we now manage to sell him for 20 millions, it's not an additional loss, we'd just have to write off 7 million we would have written off anyway (if he stayed it would have been 9).

Koulibaly's only been here one year, don't think the second year would be included would it? Would remain as 27M book value?

Transfer competed! I thought we were going to be stuck with him for years. The board need a lot of credit for understanding it wasn’t ever going to work out and managing to shift him. Not sure what the fee is? But glad this mistake has been rectified

Good luck KK !

Would never have guessed that he'd end up with twice as many goals as Pulisic, Mudryk, Ziyech and Madueke combined last season LOL.

Don't think he was half as bad defensively as some made out he was, albeit way off what we thought we were getting nonetheless 🙂
