A win is a win but boy do we need to improve at the top end of the pitch.

Winning 1-0 is impossible and we are more likely to be pegged back to 1-1 with performances like that.

Sterling was good though, as was KK and Silva.

I though Cucurella looked good when he came, a crisp passer of the ball - you could see why Pep wanted him at City.

Reece James, I thought he was very lacklustre today. He must of taken about 10 corners and I can’t remember any that caused any panic in the Everton box.

We played like it was our first pre-season match.

Need to be much better against Spurs.

I think I could see what James was doing with his corners, he was looking for a near post flick on, but they weren't coming off. Somebody else needed to come in. I am very surprised that Mount didn't take a single corner, he's capable of swinging in a few good ones.

You would think we had lost 3 - 0.

Hey guys . . . We won.  Haven't won there in quite a while actually.

Sure some things can get better, but I will take the win.

The football was horrible but it was clear that our team were spent at minute 60. It didn't help that the game was at 110mins. Crazy.

New signings looked good.

Reece and Mount, wtf are you guys doing!

Nice Broja debut. Some positive movement and use of his body. He has a bit of presence about him.

Sucks that Silva and Koulibaly both got cramps but hopefully we don't play another 110mins of league football again.

We need to stop saying such and such player is playing in such and such position, especially when it comes to our forwards. Broja wasn't playing on the left wing, Sterling wasn't playing as a striker. They were roaming forwards that were sometimes on the wing and sometimes playing centrally. Football pundits not understanding this shows they don't have a grasp of the modern game, and it's the reason why they are doing punditry and not coaching.

Apart from city and PSG which club does this-and city has an amazing front 3 and midfield .. PSG had MSN..

RM won the UCL because of their CF.. bayern too .. Barca just bought a 33 year old for 50 mil. So did city and pool..

I understsnd the point around fluidity.. but answer for that can’t be a Jorginho and a back 5..

TT is bonkers to think we can produce the same with this set..

I completely disagree with your point here.

It was quite clear how we played. Havertz and Mount were playing as winger very wide and Sterling in the middle, free to drop and roam. Does it mean, mount n mai receive the ball on the wing 100% of the time? Of course not. This Is football not chess.

Please not another season where we amble around and don't have any shots at goal. We made an awful Everton side look semi decent.

As a summation of that game, and outlook of the season, you’ve whacked the nail on the head.

Mount played more out wide than centrally today, but that doesn't mean his position was winger, just that he couldn't position himself centrally or the opportunity didn't present itself, which is the point I am trying to make. They weren't wingers or strikers in the traditional sense like these pundits seemed to believe they were.

At least 15 minutes of that was just standing around. They won’t often get rest breaks like that in matches.

Nice 3 points.

Stops the losing rot at goodison, and so many times last season we conceded late equaliser so it was good we saw it out comfortably.

All 3 signings look very good.

Performance wasnt great, but I think Everton will stifle a lot of teams with that 541, and it was especially difficult with players still rusty.

Dont want to judge the football too harshly, Tuchel still feels we need more quality, and it's pretty obvious we lack something going forward, and it might not be too wise to rely on that back 3 for a season given the age.

So hopefully a couple more in, and we beat spurs next week.

Did Jamie Rednapp just say the only thing stopping Thiago Sliva being up there with the likes of Maldini a champions league?  Who pays this clueless tw@t to be on tv?

I see you point but most of them just got headed out by Holgate so there needed to be a plan b.

Like you say letting Mount take some would qualify as a plan b, the short corner with Sterling nearly worked.

Overall I thought Reece was poor today all round.

Feel we are 2 signings off.

3 Imo.

A top centre back (Fofana)

A top quality centre mid (De Jong)

And a forward with a proven record in front of the goal.  It's painful to see a poor attacking performance and us desperately calling out for attacking impetus or something different up front and we bring Pulisic on to hide behind the opposition defenders.

I can't think of a successful team that didn't have a goal scorer on the bench who can impact games and while we've got a lot of quality on the bench not much of it in the final 3rd.

I miss Giroud.

I agree that this day role is not as rigid as it used to be but it was quite clear Mount n kai were being instructed to stay very wide and essentially play as winger.

I honestly have no problem with the game plan. City attack in very similar fashion but if this is the game plan, let's just sell kai n mount and get two winger.

Wanted three points and a strong performance before the game so guess 1 out of two will have to do.

Positives. Defence on the whole pretty solid and we kept a clean sheet. Chilly got important game time, though clearly rusty. Sterling was lively and did well but faded second half. Good cameo from Broja and he showed a bit of pace and energy. Jorgi scoring his penalty (must admit I wasn't confident when I saw him step up).

The rest was pretty forgettable and much of what we have come to expect - especially from the likes of Havertz. Already concerned about Spurs game as they will cause us a lot more problems than Everton and don't like the idea of the 100 year old back three against them - would drop Azpi for that one. Hope to see Gallagher get more minutes in coming games as I think he will give us more energy - would have had him on before RLC today.

Still, lets remain positive - at least we are above the dippers............!

I agree on the CB. At least one more needed. Two injuries in that area and we could be in trouble. Maybe Fofana and someone as versatile positionally as a Pavard or Maehle.

Agree on the mid as well. Personally I would like Locatelli who I think could easily replace Jorginho and add much more. Don't get me wrong de Jong works but there are other options as well for the money..

I liked Broja today and I was impressed with Sterling. Sterling, like Havertz I think works better off of a main man though. Personally I would like Patrick Schick.

Finally, impressed with Cucurella,  impressed with KK and TT please don't listen to me, do NOT let Kante leave yet please. He won everything today.

Juventus would be dumb as hell if they would agree on that sale but maybe we could pay like 20m + Jorginho for Locatello

Apologies I didn't mean a swap for Jorginho but he is in his last year so could be moved on. Locatelli I think is still a Sassuolu player on loan with Juventus with an option/obligation to buy. I think he would get great for us and if the de Jong numbers are to be believed then Locatelli must surely be worth a look as well
