I don't think he is worth £80 mill let alone £100 mill , lets just walk away and drop £45 on Lavia .. job done

Agree - not at all worth the reported £80m. However, who is? (Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Hazard, Lewandowski, De Bruyne... yes.)
These are players with a clear unique skillset and talent. That's something you'd be willing to pay an extraordinary amount for.

Caicedo is unique. But his role just isn't somwthing you'd normally be paying that much money He is an exciting young prospect for the box-to-box or ball winning midfield role. But I'd imagine that you could easily replace him with similar players that'd tick of the exact same boxes if they had his role in Brighton.

That being said... Example
Bissouma also looked amazing when playing for Brighton. Despite injuries and so, he was still mediocre at Spurs.

It really goes to show that some players are only as good as a system allows them to be. Brighton has build up a great structure and playing style through years of trusting Potter and De Zerbi. A system that ensures all players know their exact role while in possession and off; more specificly in pressing patterns and transitioning off the ball.

Even Solly March and Joel Veltman looks like brilliant players due to their system. Those are players that few top clubs would consider though.

Our main issue seems to be inconsistant tactics, organizational strategies and so on. We're starting to work towards something with our new directors, but there's a massive mountain to climb still.

It seems that the directors at the club are seeing nothing but the right boxes being ticked off for Caicedo.
- Furthermore, he'd somewhat be an ideal fit for Enzos game. But for £80m we'd be able to find loads of other interesting players that could potentially do the same.

Still, something in me really want this one to go through.

Those players, in their prime, are worth 2-3 times that.

80m is not an extraordinary amount anymore.

Agreed - but anymore really is the important addition here. When those players were in their prime, the market was different.

What I mean is that these players are gamechangers. Not sure Caicedo is. Is he a huge talent in his preferred position and role; yes!
- Is he good at football? Yes. He also was when Brighton bought him for £5M a year or so ago.

The point I'm trying to make is that the playing style makes pretty much all of their players look amazing. This improves value massively.

He does look great - but so did Fabricio Diaz in the U20 WC for Uruguay. I'd imagine a scenario of us buying Caicedo for £90M (add-ons incl.) and Brighton replacing him with a young talent from South America like F. Diaz for <£15M - and the latter performing better due to their system.

He also looked good for Equador I thought although others disagree. Basically any central midfielder in a top 4 team will  cost a bit.

Liverpool will reportedly consider a move for Brighton's Moises Caicedo if Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both move to Saudi Arabia.

Reds captain Henderson is thought to be on the verge of accepting an offer from Al-Ettifaq, which will see him paid £700,000-a-week for his services, under new manager and Liverpool legend Gerrard.

Meanwhile, Al-Ittihad are set to make a formal approach for Fabinho with a view to making a £40million bid for the Brazilian.

Ah come on Fabinho is past it and not worth that amount. If 40mill is the going rate for him, so should have it been for Mendy and Koulibaly.

I think that if we don't get our fingers out of our ar$e$ and get this deal done there is a very real possibility that they could gazump us.

Can’t see them paying anywhere near £100 for him and if they do I’ll be glad we didn’t get sucked into paying that amount.

If so then I am not fussed. He is too pricey imo.

Lol likely Brighton go "oh Liverpool, the media darlings, you get a discount. 60mill he is yours".

I would want to believe that our mgt is not so stupid as to wait till another club comes for him and start a bidding war before buying him . If the issue is about his price?, Then they would also be wise enough to have extensively scouted an alternative that would be capable of doing the job and can walk away from the deal if need be. 100m is unreasonable for Caicedo. If Brighton refuses to bulge, take a walk

This is one of the more painful transfer sagas. Absolutely no drama. No bids, no competition, nothing. Just 2 clubs 'in talks'. I would love to see how transfers actually go ahead. I find it baffling how clubs can speak daily for a month about a transfer. Clubs waste millions on players, but will then haggle over £5m.

Not sure if this goes ahead or not, wouldve been great to get Caicedo in for the us tour, but with how little this seems to be progressing, I'd be surprised if he is here in time for the liverpool game.

Board have done well with the outgoing in terms of numbers, but this squad looks short on quality in maybe 3 or 4 areas. GK, cm, right winger, striker. All areas with question marks.

Still think we were stronger 2 years ago, and this squad doesnt look like its had £600m pumped into it. Lets hope the next £200m makes a a real difference, starting with Caicedo.

The player wants us, he is good, he is young. If we can get him, I think it'll be good.

I've read a couple of the comments here. I feel there is no where we can get a top £20m stop gap CM in the world today who can improve us and get us into top four next season. Chelsea only want the top players because of our ambition.

This is why we are going for Caicedo. This is not the time to be angry with Brighton for asking for some fee for Caicedo, we need the player, he is going to improve us, we know the reality of the transfer market, I mean we bought Lukaku for £95m two seasons ago.

We shouldn't pretend as if the money is too much for Caicedo, he is a good player, let's do what we have to do, and move on.

Yeah 20m stop gaps won't buy anyone even at the level of what we have now, let alone better.

We should move on from Caicedo - or at least start showing interest in other players to freak Brighton out that we might not buy him. £100m is too much.

One thing though - how dumb is Caicedo to sign a new contract without a release clause, when he wanted a move? Guy is either getting very bad advice or thick as pig sh*t.

The former, I expect. Caicedo is the agent's only decent client. Out of his depth perhaps.

All this hype for a player no one knew 2 years ago. I fear the hype doesn't match the performance we will see on the pitch to make us top 4 contentders. Stinks of Cucurella and Kepa. Seen this before. Can we not just scout an unknown talent for a fraction of the price ?

Exactly.

Didn't we get some of the Brighton recruitment team? We should know who's on their radar and just cut out the middle man.

Start making moves for other players - Brighton will be left with a disruptive player who doesn't want to be there. Also makes them look bad by not giving the player the move. Brighton doubtless sell themselves as a stepping stone to prospective players.

I doubt Brighton management  would be much  taken in. They probably have a clear view of what Caicedo is worth. And what any starting midfielderon a top 4 team is worth. Yes it was a dumb agent decision but Caicedo reputation and value has grown very quickly. Even so a release clause is worth having. But the club granting it probably wants something in return, a premium for the option in financial terms. Eg a lower salary or bonus.
