Faired a lot better than I expected but we need a response against Newcastle. 

I feel pissed off. They were there for the taking but we didn’t have the balls to do it.

I’ll give them credit for nullifying Palmer but for f*cks sake they’re very fortunate to get 3 points.

Liverpool were more lucky than great. Madueke should have stayed on as he always looked like he was going to do something. 

Palmer was average, should have been subbed.

We approached this game too carefully. A bit more intensity, a few more legs in the 50/50s more bullying of their attackers, and a bit more believe in the front 4, and we should have beat them. I think that the players had too much respect, when they really are just a bunch of bin dippers.

Well, although we've lost , I think this team knows that Liverpool ain't miles ahead of us.

We all know our keeper and defence are a problem. 

Very early for our new coach and Chelsea, but I really believe this team is far better than what we've had for the last 2 seasons, hopefully getting better too

 

Silly defensive mistakes will be our undoing this season without doubt

Jackson scored though. Palmer was worse than the game at Anfield last season. He had one moment at the end from the wing and got outmuscled and lost the ball. Madueke should have stayed on as he was causing problems. Palmer has that moment of brilliance but in this high intensity game he looked lost. Maresca should have taken him off. Sometimes it just is not your day. IMO he was our worst player today. He is human. It happens but I also think Maresca should be able to tell him 'you're having a bad game. Come off'. Liverpool measured him perfectly.

Proud of many of the players tbh as we gave that a good go. Caicedo is the first name on the teamsheet alongside Palmer.

Really disappointing as that was absolutely not the start we needed to our hard run of fixtures coming up but we lost this one to our inexperience for me. A Silva or another hugely experienced leader of a CB and I think we get at least a point tonight but it is what it is.

Yet again we're our own worst enemy.

Need an overhaul in goal and defence.

I don't think we are. I thought we competed against top sides a lot better last season. We were scoring goals and looking like a genuine threat. We barely created anything today, and I don't think we were good against City at all.

Fair result. We were poor and rusty. Not surprising given we played James and Lavia who are just back from injury, Gusto out of position and Tosin who has not played much. Poor decisions from Maresca.

Palmer was marked out of it. Sancho and Madueke anonomous. Wacko did sod all (except the goal - which was well taken, but not in the game for the remainder).

But they weren't lucky. They were just organised. Teams like Liverpool,  Arsenal,  Man City, treat defending properly all over the pitch. Yes you have players that can defend and minimise space but they also have players that commit...energetically...throughout the game. They are winning tackles. I don't think Palmer played poorly, I just think that Liverpool defended properly against him, and others  and frankly our players are just not as committed as the opposition.

I am disappointed in the lost but it showed we can match them the biggest difference was experience and a defence that’s been playing together for years.

Still think we’re missing a true commanding center back (whether Fofana can be that player I don’t know) and goalkeeper. Those two positions would calm things down massively at the back. 

We’re a work in progress. Frustrating to come away with nothing - need to continue the improvement.

We'd have broken the PL loss record in this fixture last season if it weren't for Nunez turning into Werner.

Sorry, I don't think we've outplayed them at all. We've had the ball more than them, but as has been illustrated many times before possession counts for nothing

Madueke anonymous? He actually ran at their defence and was far better than Palmer & Neto.

Jackson scored, that's what we want a striker to do. The three subs straight after scoring were not needed.

 

Honestly don’t know what to think about that performance.  

I’ve seen Curtis Jones play maybe 20 times in total and he does f*ck all because he is rubbish. But against Chelsea he always looks like prime Lampard. Championship level midfielder.

Palmer went missing and made the wrong decision multiple times.
