Mike Maignan

Mike's not having a great second half is he ? LOL

5-1 now

5 goals from 8 shots. If he was a hockey keeper he would have been hooked for the back up.

Don't forget @Scott Harris told us he is basically sh*t living off a great season a few year s back. He may well be worse than Sanchez.

This is just sh*t. I said I would even keep Sanchez over him, and this is why. Say what you like about Sanchez messing up passes out from the back, but you can't say he lets in many easy goals like this. The one thing Sanchez is good at is shot stopping.

Maignan is the same trap United fell into with Onana. He can play with his feet, but too often he doesn't make saves that he should make, he can't save penalties and he can't claim crosses. Anybody that wants this guy hasn't watched him in years and those looking to sign him are relying on the usual sh*t data they have been relying on to make our signings in recent times.

People say things like "he will do until Penders gets a bit more experience" but that means risking Champions League qualification next season. If we're going to get a few stop gap signings, then get ones that will actually help us maintain our position.

Definitely should be saving this one.

I do wonder if other teams fans are as brutal towards their own players and targets as Chelsea fans are. Can't think of a player we've been linked to this summer that hasn't been slagged off to high heaven

I think he should have done better with this one too

This isn't a great finish by Merino. He's placed it and it curls towards Maignan. Maignan could have saved this with his foot if his reflexes were better.

This one is not his fault and looks worse than it actually is.

He anticipated Merino going across which most players do 9 times out of 10. Things like this happens.

I think a lot of it is an "anyone but Sanchez" mindset.

Maignan may well be worse, but he's an "improvement" because he isn't Robert Sanchez

I thought Sanchez had been transported into mikes body for Spains fifth. ‘Big Game’ Mike has not done himself any favors tonight.

Not the only one that made a mistake for France. Feels like even if Lloris was in net tonight France would’ve had good chance of a result given the late comeback.

Honestly Sanchez and Mike look like the exact same player.

Hard to defend him on this showing and I guess I was one of the most optimistic with the move hoping Maignan could rediscover his form, although I do hope Maresca grows some balls to at least take a look at Petrovic during CWC instead of washing his hands for the board.

Guess we'll be discussing the goalie situation for another few years then 😅

Yup I agree. As a shot stopper and ability to deal with threats in the air Sanchez is a good keeper, he just has way too many brainfarts.

Does not need to be a "we must sign someone to replace sanchez" though. I'd still much rather have Penders vs Petrovic for the number 1 this season.

Market is bleak.Thats the simple fact.

You’d think by some reactions we are missing out on players with zero weaknesses, proven in the premier league, has experience, and wouldn’t be commanding insane wages.

Delap is the only and rare exception.

Sanchez, Kepa , Petrovic all seem a better bet, so why sign this myopical (rhymes w comical) goalkeeper? 😂 now we’ve seen todays performance I’ve got a bad feeling about this …….that Milan might take the 10 now.

Depends on what metrics are being applied. The comparison level seems to always be Errors leading to goals. But this is only one small point of reference and is false anyway when comparing an average keeper in a team that baits a press and an average keeper that always clears his lines.

Where are the comparisons of shots saved from inside the box, shots saved from outside, 1 v 1 success rate. Goals conceded direct from free kicks (questions organisational skills). High balls collected. Pass success by long distance, middle range and short range. Pass success under pressure percentage. Distribution ratio (feet vs hands). Penalty success rate.

These type of comparisons would give a clearer picture of the true qualities of the goalkeeper rather than errors leading to goals. If not let's by the Oldham Athletic keeper cos he probably just hoofs it up the pitch.

Sanchez gets a lot of heat for failing in the weakest area of his game. Let's not forget two of our finest goalkeepers in ours and football history would have got the same level of pelters if they were continually pressured to play out from the back with short passes in and around the box.

I remain skeptical when we recruit keepers on one apparent specific point of reference especially when certain pundits and content creators bang on about a position that they do not have a clue about.

Lamine Yamal would look like Spanish Khalid Boulahrouz if we were linked to him.

In all honesty if we get an offer of 10mill euros for kepa I think we take it. His book value cannot be much left now. That should cover it with a small profit.

I think we extended him last summer in the hope his loan meant we would not lose him for free

We need to separate the amortisation shown in the accounts from the numbers that will be submitted for PSR/FFP purposes.

The football authorities changes relating to a fee to being amortised over 5 years maximum doesn’t fit with accounting standards.its going to be incredibly difficult keeping a handle own numbers going forward

Kepa was signed for £70 million initially on 7 year deal which was extended for an extra year. That means in the accounts £5 million( down from £10 million Pa) will be written off in 24/25 and the last £5 million in 25/26. Must be pure coincidence that his buyout clause matches the sum reflected in the statutory accounts as at end of the 24/25 accounting year.

However because of the PL /UEFA changes the last£10 million of his fee will be written off in 24/25. So going into 25/26 any fee for PSR/FFP purposes is profit.

Maybe we should start targeting some good players then
