Whilst I am broadly in support of this signing, I do think we also need to actually sign a proper midfielder who can start every week. And sell Enzo.

We might win the league if we do that. We definitely won't win the league if we're starting Enzo.

Fun fact, when Enzo plays we win 38% of our games. When he doesn't play we win 53%.

I cannot find a similar variance with any other Chelsea player.

Ultimate vanity player. Hinderance to the team but will pop up with a goal to pump his ego. Sadly there are certain fans on here that buys into this fugazi footballer without being able to watch a match of football and see the bigger picture. Enzo Fernandez is the litmus test of whether someone understands football. Similar to whether someone chooses Messi or Ronaldo as the GOAT.

Has always seemed like a bit of a plodder in midfield to me, but then I look at it and think "three elite managers can't all be wrong !" Klopp made him captain, Tuchel deemed him essential to his squad, and now Alonso, denied his first choice of Xhaka, makes him next in line ... so there must be a lot of intangibles here that as such wouldn't be obvious to your average armchair supporter as to why he's still in demand at age 36 ?

With my hindsight glasses on I can only wonder where we might be now if BlueCo had brought in Modric at the same age ...

Im not sure what he can bring to the pitch on a regular basis, a bit of an experienced head to close out games? We have been pretty panicky in the final minutes of games. Not expecting him to get many minutes and for free its not worth worrying about.

Off the pitch we all know what he's meant to bring. Some say why not just hire him as a coach, to that I would say there is a bit of a difference. If you've ever done any kind of training particularly in a group you will know a good coach/trainer can motivate you to train harder but there's nothing like a team mate that pushes you. Competition between individuals is what drives you the most trying to keep up with someone or just someone who doesn't want to give up or lose pushes you beyond the norm. The other thing is that once one person starts that mentality the competitiveness rubs off on everyone else. Hopefully this is what Henderson brings to the table and when he does leave that mentality sticks with the young player we have. This is what happened with the team that included Terry, Lamps, and Drogba and stuck with the team for many years later. Well until ClearLake sold them all. The trophy winning metality we had even through the bad times was down to the mentality of the squad not just the quality and if Jordan can bring a bit of that back then I'm all for it.

We've dropped the most points from winning positions in the league, so I can see Henderson's influence in closing out matches.

This NEEDS to be the season where we break 80 points. Has to be the goal, and we put ourselves in good standing if we do so. We've not come anywhere near it since the takeover. We haven't even broken 70.

He does have one redeeming feature.

I’m ok with the Welbeck and Henderson signings. The team is massively immature and emotional, and needs help on and off the pitch to grow. This is a short term fix and the mentorship will be of use.

A little mindful how impactful they can really be on the pitch, but will let the games play for assessing that.

I reckon he would be a okay signing. Would just add a bit of experience in the squad.

for me this indicates two things

1) Manager needs influence in the dressing room, influence from mature heads who have been at top clubs, there will always be a seperation between the coaches and the team.

2) Two players who in there mid 30's both have excellent seasons last year (most through brentford would go down) can only be good for driving standards. You hear of the drogba, lampard, terry days where players got a shock coming in to the dressing room, the extra training, etc. Pretty sure that isn't at the club today, thats got to be in some part player led.

I'm at the point where we are so far off the rails, that i'll give anything a go.

Bet he plays more minutes than Lavia, still.

Was trying to work out given skill set and value to the team who's place would be most at risk by Henderson's arrival and after much deliberation and concluded that the person probably sweating most would probably be

Stamford the Lion.

On a serious note if Alonso wanted him then will extend a warm welcome to somebody I have much derided over the recent years and will give him my full support on the pitch.
