November 16, 201510 yr Been our best player this season by a country mile. Kicking goals on a more regular basis has done his confidence wonders! I wish the rest of the team would step up now.
November 16, 201510 yr If only his brain worked as quickly as his feet then he would be so much more decisive, and therefore devastating, when we are on the attack/counter. Boooo
November 25, 201510 yr 'Willian has scored 6 times from 12 free-kick attempts this season in all comps; 4 of 5 in the Champions League. Specialist'
November 25, 201510 yr 'Willian has scored 6 times from 12 free-kick attempts this season in all comps; 4 of 5 in the Champions League. Specialist' Couldn't it be argued that Willian is the best free kick specialist in the world at the moment? His goalscoring rate from freekicks is frankly off the charts at the moment. Even if its temporary - Juninho, widely held as the best free kick specialist in history, averaged some 6 freekicks per season with 10 being his record. This season is just 1/3rd in...
November 25, 201510 yr Thank fu£K we've unleashed the free kick machine Willian... he hates Tottenham
November 25, 201510 yr It's been obvious he is very talented from the start but maybe his game lost some intensity in Ukraine where he could dominate with less effort. I think that is why he was a bit sloppy with possession in his first year and didn't quite have the stamina to remain focussed for long periods. This kind of stuff takes time to improve, but he's worked on that. He's reached his potential eventually and is our best player right now. Now we only need Hazard back!
November 25, 201510 yr Looked like oscar wanted to take the kick instead of him too. Think you should just leave them to willian oscar, just concentrate on getting in to the box more.
November 25, 201510 yr If only his brain worked as quickly as his feet then he would be so much more decisive, and therefore devastating, when we are on the attack/counter. You could say that about every single attacker at Chelsea, with maybe the exception of Pedro. Hazard slows down counters, Oscar is almost as slow as Mata (that wasted counter yesterday was really poor), Costa will usually run away from goal or into players, Ramires is Ramires, Fabregas is usually starting the counters, so it's not really his fault. Oscar, Fabregas, Hazard are all factors in overplaying and trying to walk things in. It's a desease that emerged in that red side of London and has infected the whole team. The days when Lampard would get a shot away as soon as in range...
November 25, 201510 yr my only issue is why he couldn't have started producing these performances 2 seasons ago. i have been one of his biggest critics in the past, but this season he has been brilliant. it just shows you what one can achieve with practice; maybe more of our players should take notice and practice on the weaker aspects of their games. It's a bit annoying he saved it till no one else is in form! Imagine the current Willian in last seasons team before Christmas!
November 26, 201510 yr my only issue is why he couldn't have started producing these performances 2 seasons ago. i have been one of his biggest critics in the past, but this season he has been brilliant. it just shows you what one can achieve with practice; maybe more of our players should take notice and practice on the weaker aspects of their games. The only difference is now he's scoring set pieces, still the same player (which for me is a good thing) On another note, out of those 12 free kicks only 2 have not hit the target as I understand, and one of those rattled the bar against Kiev, in Ukraine. Actually add's to the quality of his dead ball currently
November 26, 201510 yr Raises the question if he can learn to strike a dead ball so beautifully can he not learn to strike a moving one at least on target?
November 26, 201510 yr I don't think he's done anything different this season than any other.I'm a big fan and always have been.. he's looked better this year because everyone's been poor and he's actually been allowed to take the deadball (previously Cesc ((who's corners are one of the worst in the league)), Oscar, Lampard have taken them). He's been a wonderfully consistent player since his arrival in my mind.
November 26, 201510 yr Raises the question if he can learn to strike a dead ball so beautifully can he not learn to strike a moving one at least on target? Not his problem for me. If I could add one thing to his game it would be to see him attack the 6 yard box more often, try and get on the end of things
November 26, 201510 yr Would still like to see an improvement on his contribution in attack from open play.
November 27, 201510 yr Not his problem for me. If I could add one thing to his game it would be to see him attack the 6 yard box more often, try and get on the end of things Would be a good improvement too to be sure.
November 27, 201510 yr He's usually the one provide the crosses into the box rather than one at the receiving end, doubt that will change anytime soon. My guess is he needs the extra few seconds( or touches) to put the ball where he wants to, thus successfully in dead box situation but ordinary from open play. Not having to track back as a secondary full back always help his game.
