Fair play to Frank for not replacing Pedro with this guy and played Barkley instead, His cameo VS Leicester was so poor.

That's what I originally  thought too, but I think Frank wanted to hold him back as a Pulisic replacement if/when needed.

Willian did look more engaged for this appearance though.

His cameo against Leicester was awful - it was the apparent lack of effort which made it worse. Someone must have had a word with him though as he was a lot better when he came on against Norwich. He was busting a gut and trying to get involved.

Another perk of playing the youth besides saving money, it keeps the rest of the seniors on their heels.

Something to do with the Diego Costa situation, maybe?

I don't think so. He wasn't a starter for Conte in the first season as Pedro was first choice more often... Second season both he and Pedro were benched every time we went 3-5-2, which was quite often.

He wasn't First XI for Conte.

That was the gist of it.

(though Costa finally getting his move and Luiz being frozen out in year two probably didn't help his attitude)

Was listening to Rodney Marsh and Tommy Smyth on the radio show Grumpy Pundits yesterday.  Marsh was incredulous that Willian hasn’t played much yet this season and called him, verbatim, “one of Chelsea’s best players last season”.  Had to flip the station.

Thought he was pretty decent today tbh, worked back when he lost the ball, and was generally a good influence in the side.

Thought he was more than decent, looked like Willian we haven't seen in a long while. I just hope it lasts, because we'll need him.

I also thought it was his best game for some time too.

Seemed to put in some effort in the defensive phase around the middle of the park and also break with speed.

With the three CBs I was reminded of Moses under Conte, both seemed to break with speed down the wide right and both don't seem or couldn't put in a decent cross.

he had a superb game. 2nd and 3rd are due to his work rate in this game.

That second clip where Willian kicks it past the man marking him to then against the odds beat the onrushing defender was one of the most exciting parts except the goals, great athleticism and to be fair his cross was ok on that occasion.

cost us the game not squaring it to Pedro in the second half. Once again, brain dead from this man. A bit of pace past a defender isn't enough to impress me.

Now you're just being either silly or demented in your bigotry.

There are many reasons to criticise Willian, but tonight there aren't any - bloke was good tonight.  And not many others were.  If you cant see that, then you are letting your pre-conceived hatred of the player get in the way of any rational analysis.

But, love you, babe, anyway.

He really should have done better from Kova’s pass, at least make the keeper work by hitting the target.

He’s just a horrendous footballer when it comes time for end product. He can look almost Hazard-esque at times when he runs with the ball but 90% when it comes to end product he’s left wanting. I don’t think it’s any coincidence when we have Pedro & Willian playing on the wings, we look absolutely honking going forward. There looked to be zero chemistry with Abraham compared to Mount for example. I think his injury really highlighted how important he is to us.

Ironically he should've tried to score solo goals in the first half but when it came to doing it, the reverse was more sensible
