May 13, 201610 yr He's been offered a deal on an already rich career so let's give the board credit for once. With the amount he has earned and taking his age into account, there is no such thing as a sh*tty deal. Now we will know which is a bigger pull for JT, Chelsea or China's millions

With the amount he has earned and taking his age into account, there is no such thing as a sh*tty deal. Now we will know which is a bigger pull for JT, Chelsea or China's millions Think that’s a bit unfair tbh. The club left him in limbo till the game before the season end, what is he supposed to do? Sit crossing his fingers in the hope they go back on their word? He has a career, family and such to think about. Again this isn’t Championship Manager…it’s real people we are dealing with. Hopefully he accepts it but I’d understand if it’s been left too long.

It was always unfair to have a go at the board just because JT decided to public and make you all think he was definitely leaving. The way I see it, he's such a big influence that the board wanted Conte's approval which they now have.= Not once have the board said he's not being offered a new deal so how is that going back on their word?
May 13, 201610 yr Author Chelsea have painted JT into a corner now. They might have offered him £100k a week less but at least there's an offer to stay. Basically looks like they've called his bluff. Want to stay so badly? Prove it!
May 13, 201610 yr The club will have offered a very reduced rate to him, as to save face and put the ball in jt's court, so they don't look the big bad ogar to us fans. I doubt he will except it, leaving it till last last game to announce new contract is out of oder to jt and treating us like sh*t as well playing with everybodys minds. Its PR spin by the club so they don't get the back lash on Sunday. What a lovely club we all support!!! Edited May 13, 201610 yr by chi blue

Surely a reduced wage shouldn't matter to him above playing for Chelsea and it's fans at this stage. It works both ways, his initial statement is as much a PR spin as the board giving him a new deal. It's funny that after all the protests and petitions, the fans have got what they asked for and yet still have a go. Some can never be pleased.
May 13, 201610 yr Great news that I hope get even better when JT accepts to stay! We don't know what the Club has offered, so we shouldn't be always crapping on the board. Let's see what JT has to say and if the facts are made public, then we can give an opinion about whether the offer was good or not. Also, the fact that they've left this renewal offer until this late could be due to Conte wanting to check the facts about Chelsea and JT. I don't think an Italian coach will look at the age to keep or sell a player. After all, Italian teams keep their legends playing until they decide to hang up the boots or move on to other leagues (Totti, Pirlo, Buffon, Maldini...).
May 13, 201610 yr I think it sends all the wrong signals to offer Terry a new contract. His legs are gone, he's three years past his best and his decline has accelerated this season. Why not just draw a line under his career and say thanks and goodbye? we don't put Ron Harris or Charlie Cooke in the current Chelsea team.
May 13, 201610 yr 3 years ago he was out of the side under benitez. One year ago he had arguably the best season of his career. What are you talking about mate?
May 13, 201610 yr I think it's important to keep him, just like Didier Drogba was important last season, he doesn't have to start every game, but he's a leader and strong character, I think Didier was crucial last season and I don't think journos understood that. He'll always attract this irrational hatred, from people who don't know the first thing about him, but he's blue through and through and we are quickly running out of those players.

May 13, 201610 yr Just reading ‘Chelsea fans divided on Twitter’, majority of tweets shown are from rival fans and deluded journalists, obviously the media think we're stupid.
May 13, 201610 yr Fair enough. John played hardball over a contract extension a few year's back when Man City were apparently interested in signing him. Now it's the club's turn. Legend or not (and I hope he stays) sometimes it's just down to ego and cold hard cash.

Want to stay so badly? Prove it! This. Win win for the club now. Stay and they're forgiven and some of the hate dies down. Leave and it's on terrys own back and then the club can say they tried. As I posted earlier I'm convinced, or part of me is, that we've offered him a poor deal knowing he rejects
May 13, 201610 yr You would think the club would have discussed the offer verbally before it went public. I think they know he will sign. I think if he does stay, the question is how do we transition him. It was easier with Giggs and Scholes as midfielders but not as easy with defenders. JT also has to accept that transition.
May 13, 201610 yr I don't like the club announcing that they offered a deal while negotiations are still ongoing with Terry. Maybe a low ball offer that Terry has to refuse and the club comes out clean? Edit: Now that I read through the other posts, it seems others agree Edited May 13, 201610 yr by JoseBlues
May 13, 201610 yr Author Jason Cundy appears to have suggested on Twitter that JT has signed on for another year.

Edit: Now that I read through the other posts, it seems others agree Yeah i think the majority of posters are being quite harsh on the club but that may just be me. They have been getting stick for taking so long to offer one and now also getting stick for announcing they've offered one. Can they do anything right? JT has said that he wants to finish his career at Chelsea. But having now fielded offers from abroad and from Chelsea, like any human would do, he may actually have a different opinion. The ball is entirely in his court now. Edited May 13, 201610 yr by Van Butsen

The way they wrote it seems they want to stay away from any blame. Seems more like saving their behinds to be honest.
