Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

If we believe everything media said, he's desperate to leave, anywhere but Chelsea. I imagine his latest interview is like this:

Q: What do you know about PSG or French league?

A: PSG is a really strong team, don't know much about the French league, but people told me it's good.

Headline: Costa is keen to join PSG

And how did he come about saying he was desperate to leave in the summer? Was that a made up quote too?

"Any goalscorer worth his salt should have had at least a couple today surely"

Commentator on my channel nailed it. Thanks for a great first half of the season but my God has he been pathetic since january.

Hasn't been the same player since the issues that emerged in January.

He was in ripping form in the first half of the season. I want that Diego to return!

I'm sorry to say but he has gone from being our player of the season to our worst performer in recent times. His form dipped, but he was still scoring, now he can't even do that.

Never our player of the season to begin with (Hazard quite clearly). He's reverted back to his true level in recent months like in previous seasons and all his weaknesses are being ruthlessly exposed.

Lacking a bit of form coming into the serious part of the season. A goal on Wednesday would do him a power of good. Problem is there is no serious replacement, I'm totally unconvinced by Batshuayi and can see why Conte doesn't appear to trust him.

Who will we replace him with ? I just hope we don't go for Lukaku. That'll really suck.

21 goals so far?

In general he tends to tail off in the 2nd half of seasons.

16/17 (so far)

Pre-New Year: 13
Post-New Year: 4

15/16

Pre-New Year: 5
Post New-Year: 7

14/15

Pre-New Year: 13
Post-New Year: 7

13/14 (Athletico)

Pre-New Year: 19
Post-New Year: 8

Really poor performance, some of his actions were so selfish.

In my opinion, he's too safe under Conte, there is no other player that can replace Costa because Conte doesn't really put trust on Michy.

I really hope we will reach the title at the end of the season, he was our key for goals, let's hope he will finish the season with 5-6 more goals.

To be fair to Costa, the whole team has been poorer since the turn of the year. They are started on fire and carried it on into xmas/new year, then since then it's been up and down. From what I saw from the highlights yesterday was he looked like he was trying. He also looked visibly frustrated at times too.

I don't think he will be good for us. For Everton he's great but will he be able to score against teams defending deep like Crystal Palace today ? I don't think so. I don't think he can play with his back against the goal and he doesn't seem to use his size well either from what I've seen.

Tbf we put 2 decent crosses in for Costa all game, 1 he headed wide and the other he chested down and his shot got blocked. Either of those chances I think lukaku would probably have put away, as it's the sort of service he thrives on at everton.

Costa needs a big performance and a goal to get his confidence back.

We put in plenty of "decent crosses". One of the best crosses of the match was from willian. Fizzed across the 6 yard box. Costa was not no where near. Similarly another moment when Luiz, GC, Bats and DC were all in the box and someone put in a decent cross with no one gambling. The lack is not in the crosses but in the strikers' instinct.

Also, I love this "Lukaku cant play with his back to the goal" narrative.

So teams like Sunderland, Palace, Hull, Bournemouth, Watford etc play attacking, expamsive football against everton?

People should try and watch a game for a change rather than relying on 4 year old opinions

Stop talking like that opinion has come out of nowhere. It's very valid. Sure, he has gotten a bit better at it this season but still not at the level we'd like him to be at. It's okay to say he's young and he'll keep improving and will probably get better at it. Don't try to make him out to be some finished product that he's not.

It was valid 4 years ago or 3 years ago. But he has been improving (who would think thats possible for a currently 23 year old striker). Stop talking like people's perception of him 3 years ago is not clouding their judgment currently. If they had seen lukaku this season, his back to the goal play would not be as much in question.
