Tammy Abraham

Featured Replies

If I'm going to be brutally honest, I don't think he'll ever be good enough to lead the line here. But I do think he's a good character and squad player to have, you can't knock his goal record, you need players like that.

If we manage to bring in a first choice striker or Werner magically rediscovers his form from last season & Tammy is happy to play the 2nd striker role I would say that he is the best 2nd striker in the PL, As a Number 9 in my view he is better then Martial, Jesus, Vinicius, Origi & Nketiah.

I think he is good enough to keep even a player like Haaland on his toes and push him for the top spot, he is hugely underrated by our fans.

He may look cumbersome at times, and there are definitely elements of his game that need some work. However he does consistently find a way to score, and he also contributes some good link up play. He is also a player that always looks like he gives 100% in every game, even when things aren't going well. I still reckon he is our best option as a target man in most games.

With those numbers he’d be on a list to sign by many if he played elsewhere. He does need to work on some of the basics and a bit more upper body strength would be an aid. You can’t fault though his commitment.

Anyone know how bad his injury is or how long he’s out? I thought he worked much harder off the ball last couple starts.

I’ve just not seen that from him, IMO he gives defenders an easy life.

The goals scored by him have usually been against ‘lesser’ teams, if he doesn’t produce against the teams we are battling against is he worthy of consideration?

If we had bought him instead of him being an academy player, he would be getting dogs abuse with the majority of performance’s.

One caveat is the opponents he has scored against.

Against sides I would consider rubbish:

1 vs Aston Villa (2019/20)
2 vs Burnley
2 vs Crystal Palace
1 vs Newcastle
2 vs Norwich
1 vs Sheffield United (2020/21)
1 vs Southampton (early 2019/20)
1 vs Watford
1 vs West Brom
2 vs Barnsley (cups)
3 vs Luton (cups)
1 vs Rennes (CL)

Against decent sides:

2 vs Lille (CL)
2 vs David Moyes' West Ham
2 vs Sheffield United (2019/20)
3 vs Wolves (2019/20)
2 vs Arsenal (1 being the consolation in our defeat this season)
1 vs Bayern (consolation)
1 vs Liverpool (consolation)

There are worse things than being a consistent 'flat-track bully'. Certainly this is something many teams (including us) have struggled with, particularly with the increased quality of the mid-table and bottom-half sides. That said, it will forever be a stick Tammy is beaten with unless he starts notching against the top sides.

There’s rumours going round that he’s refusing to talk about a contract extension.

Personally I find that hard to believe. He’s played a big part for us so far.

Another The Athletic special... I find it hard to believe as well since he isn't a coveted player, why would he refuse the chance to secure his future earning maximum wages he won't get else where. Because of rumours that we are chasing Haaland? Just doesn't sound right to me.

An agent whispering in his ear, 'you can earn more Tammy'

I don't find that too hard to believe actually. He's never managed to stay on the pitch for longer than 45 minutes under Tuchel in the PL when he started the game. It makes sense for him to wait whether the manager believes in him. And if he doesn't get a lot of playtime now, he's not going to get any more if we sign a high profile striker in the summer. He's still young, maybe playing regularly, improving as a football player and increasing his chances of playing a role in the England squad, is more important to him than earning high wages and being a back up striker here.

Slightly off-topic yet looking at the table above and one thing stands out, Barnes a midfielder at Leicester.

Now I don't see that much of Leicester yet enough to see he scores some cracking goals.

Footy365 raved about him the other day saying he could pass, dribble and shoot yet no top side has come in for him, strange.

Any thoughts?

There's been noises about his hesitancy to commit long term ever since he's returned pretty much, all the other boys were signed up to new deals within months (of Lampard's arrival) but reports suggested Tammy was/is waiting on how the long term picture in regards to his role looked.

I wouldn’t sign if I were him, deep down he knows he’s a stop gap.

He’s not good enough for the Prem in my opinion, but will earn good money playing in the Championship.

I think that's very harsh, I would say about 13 Premier League clubs at the very least would snap him up. He had a great goal record for Villa and they wanted to keep him after promotion. They would've done aswell if it wasn't for our transfer ban situation.

But Tammy was exceptional last season, he really delivered in the goal department for the first 6 months until he got injured, that can't be forgotten. Also this season, he's still our top scorer despite some sh*te performances, got to give credit where it's due.
