Following Our Nearest & Dearest Rivals, 2017/2018

FFP is dead, far too many ways to circumvent it now. It needs revising, we're the only big club that tries to follow it.

City have "commercial revenue", PSG is using Qatar's budget and people say the auditors have done a fine job.

bayern have had an awful pre-season. apart from beating us, they've lost to arsenal, inter, milan, liverpool, and now look to lose to napoli. that game against us was arguably their best performance, the f**kers.

This neymar deal is a real game changer. PSG have pushed themselves into that top tier of attracting the world's best.

Absolutely stunned by it to be honest.

I know we are hoping for a return to the times we consistently reaching the semi finals of the champions league, but I dont think we have the financial clout to even compete at that level anymore.

City and United outspent us domestically, Barca, Real, and PSG, are able to spend ridiculous amounts abroad, and Juve and Bayern tend to sweep up the best talent in their respective leagues, to keep them very strong.

Now you also have Milan back in the mix.

It's getting harder and harder to attract the best talent. I think now more than ever we have to find a way of turning the youth prospects that are some if the best in europe, into world class talent for the 1st team.

Don't know how accurate, but apparently it's gone down like this:

- PSG can't pay that much, without running foul of FFP
- PSG's Qatar owners/Qatar government will pay Neymar 300m to be the figurehead of the Qatar worldcup
- Neymar then uses that money to payoff his contract with Barca and sign for PSG on a free
- Neymar's dad/agent dives into his Scouge McDuck vault of money

Surely they aren't really going to try this. Thats about as transparent as it gets tbh.

The only good thing to come out of this neymar deal is the fact that now we can price Eden in accordance to the market, hopefully scare everyone away

absolutely. if hazard has another fantastic season like last, we could most certainly ask for 3 figures. i don't want us to sell him though.

We now have three price bands.

#1 Normal prices. (Usually German clubs are involved a lot in this band.)

#2 Premier League prices. (EPL prices are 30% higher than the above band, 40% if the player is English.)

#3 UAE/Qatari prices. (This is where the most money in modern day sport is spent, even the Americans cannot compete in this band, let alone the Russians)

Heard Joey Barton on the radio yesterday. I wouldn't have a pile of time for him but I agree with him in saying that he doesn't think that Neymar is 'all that'. Sure he is a very good player but my IMO he is a good step below Messie and Ronaldo. I also agree with him that Mbappe will be a better player. From what I have seen of him he has everything to be up there with the ve ry best.

It's gotten completely out of hand now. This will be by far the most insane transfer ever. Neymar is a good player, a very good player, but PSG are going to pay double the world record fee. It's absolute madness!!

I wouldn't care if I were a PSG fan just like I didn't care when we were signing multiple players for over 20 million quid nearly 15 years back.

its their money and if UEFA and co allow it then what can you do? I'm just stunned we seem to try to balance the books when others don't give a crap and nothing happens to them.

Amused that PSG are supposedly getting this through FFP regulations. Even that bastion of transfer integrity, La Liga, refused to automatically accept the release clause bid from PSG on the grounds they don't believe it's legit.

FFP regulations are supposed to restrict club spending relative to their football-related revenue. Based on last year's revenue (€481m) and assuming Neymar's value is amortised over a five-year contract, PSG would have us believe they are willing to spend over 20% of their total revenue on a single player for the next five years.

I'm sure it will all be worth it when they win Ligue Un by 25 points instead of 20, though.

Anyone have ideas on how to shut up united fans. United boys at work think they already won the league.

Join them in the hype.

Tell them they have the best players and that they have had the best transfer window.

Somehow slip it in and make them remember the same hype about Pogba and Zlatant and Jose last year, and how they were going to "walk the league".

Lastly, open up google and show them the League table by scrolling down towards 6th.

THE END.

I think this transfer is as much about the Qatar world cup as PSG  themselves. With much negativity around the event and Qatar itself, Neymar will be used as the public face in the same way Beckham and Keys &Grey have previously. No matter the penalties probably a price worth paying by the owners.

Knowing our board there'll probably sell him to manure for 30mill and replace him with Stuart Downing or some other sh*te player....

Yeah, I also think it has a lot to do with the Champions League; PSG know they can't be taken seriously as a genuine 'top club' until they win that. Buying players like Draxler, now Neymar etc. isn't about being the best in France, but being the best in Europe. They were all in for the CL last season, and it crushed them when Barca made that comeback and knocked them out. Monaco took advantage of their shift in focus and won Ligue 1.

Talking of United, I see Mourinho hailing Matic as a 'genius', which even during his peak would've been stretching it a little. The resident United fan at work seems to be fairly unimpressed by the signing himself though, and would also have preferred Morata to Lukaku. He does live in Chelsea however, so has probably learnt to toe the line a bit! Personally I'm not too worried about Liverpool as they always seem to gas themselves out at some point, but it'll be interesting to see if the Manchester clubs spending will ever pay off, and if Spurs have peaked or not...

If Neymar is 222m to Barca, Eden is 300m to us. He's that good.

I liked how Matic has that 1 sprint per game to his repertoire of skill when I watched the recent Utd game.

Neymar deal blocked by UEFAlona & La Liga

I don't think La Liga have the power to do anything about it if UEFA decide to let the transfer go through.

Something fishy is definitely going on though.
