Olivier Giroud to Chelsea

Featured Replies

I've read the Arsenal board a few times and they're all saying Giroud has gotten better with age. Which is very possible, at the end of the day, Giroud has never been the fastest player, he's not a player you expect to score goals on the counter attack. So if pace isn't an essential part of his game, he can only improve in many other areas. I wouldn't be against keeping Giroud for longer if I'm being honest, he's an asset.

I do wish he was a bit faster though.

Being utilized better more like. Wenger use to play him every game no matter what for the first few years and he's good but not quite good enough to be bonafide #1 at a club with lofty ambitions.

I see him similarly to what i do Marcos, Tammy and present day Kante, pick and choose their minutes carefully and we'd be largely happy with them, make them untouchable starters and the frustrations will eventually come home to roost (as we're currently seeing with Marcos) .

Giroud is our Teddy Sheringham. Keep him here until he is 38!

He can be our Del Pierro, keep him here for another 10 years.

He can be our Jokanovic, keep him here until hes 94... oh wait, he just played like he was 94

I'd take him for another year if he helps us to another top 4 finish. Like fine wine, my Dad calls him the best groomed footballer in the world and for good reason he has a great beard.

Back to football though, world class mentality and ability. He knows how to use his size, he's not the fastest but he uses his body the best way possible.

His goal sums him up perfectly, he's bemoaning a missed opportunity by Mount to pass to him. Before he even finishes complaning its like a switch is flicked and he realises the ball is alive and what he does next well you know...

Whilst others would still be complaining and miss the opportunity to attack the ball he was still switched on to the possibility of a half chance.

An underrated striker, and the perfect squad player. Statistically, this has been his best season with us since he joined in January 2018.

  • 2017/2018 = 18 games, 5 goals
  • 2018/2019 = 45 games, 13 goals
  • 2019/2020 = 25 games, 10 goals
  • 2020/2021 = 22 games, 11 goals

And like I said, the games to goals is very misleading, check out his minutes to goals, they are far superior. A lot of games he's played in he's came on with 2 minutes left.

I appreciated Sheringham once he left Millwall though somehow don't see Oli in the same way.

Ah, Oli leads the line and Sheringham played as a No.10 if I recall correctly.

We could certainly do with someone that could finish like Sheringham, IMO.

Good shout.

I'd give him another year without a second thought. He's professional when he's not in the squad, put his shift in everytime he plays, and score goals. He has another season or two left easily, I'm pretty sure Arsenal will offer him a deal if we let him go.

You’re talking about a no 10, I think we need to find someone like Mata. He was a really special player here and think he got 36 assists and 20 goals in 1 season. If we could find someone like him, the likes of Werner and Havertz would blossom.

Why would they do after letting him go? And is he better than Lacazette, Aubameyang or Martinelli? He was the worst player for us before he was hauled off, and can remember him misplacing a few passes.

Not against renewing his contract as a 2nd/3rd choice, but not at the expense of Tammy. There is a reason no top team in England uses a target man

Mata is a good shout too.

A great servant to the club who conducts himself impeccable without fuss after what could be seen as  shocking handling by management. A true professional.
If only he had pace he would be some striker!
I hope he gets some minutes in the final and a decent transfer afterwards.

Wish him the best. He’s been a great player for us and I’m convinced he improved as a player here. But I feel the time is right for him to go, leave on a high.

I feel if he stayed for another year, we’ll grow to dislike him and his status at the club would be tarnished, abit like what happened with Ivanovic who stayed for too long (Obviously a bigger legend).
