Maurizio Sarri Officially Appointed

Featured Replies

Imagine Klopp or Poch coming to Chelsea in their first season in England. They would never have lasted and would have been hounded out.

Pochettino isn't perfect and really should have won something by now with that team he has though.

Klopp would never have been given the time he has at Liverpool. Our fan base and board wouldn't have shown them any patience.

How many trophies has he won at Liverpool so far and how many have we won in the same period?

“David Luiz is probably the most vocal of Chelsea’s players who regularly start under Sarri, but the Brazilian is not universally popular within the squad and is often accused of blaming others for his own mistakes”

“Some of Chelsea’s successful former stars were staggered to see pictures from the Etihad Stadium tunnel of players chatting to and swapping shirts with Manchester City players just minutes after their mauling”

- Matt Law

Sarri feels that Chelsea must either back him or sack him, as he is incapable of obtaining the necessary improvement from the players at his disposal. #CFC (Times)

Increasingly there is a narrative here around players v manager coming out in the press. Now that could all be bollocks, but if true we have reached this point for the third time in 4 seasons. Each time we have chosen to move on the manager. Perhaps a different decision needs to be made this time.

Comparisons with Klopp, Poch & Pep are irrelevant.

Liverpool or Spuds haven’t won the league in years so can afford patience, let’s see how long that patience lasts after several near misses.

City have the best manager in the world, they knew he was taking them to another level.

Chelsea is Chelsea, we’ve had success we want more, if we don’t think we’re going in the right direction we change things.

Difference is back then we were more than happy to outspend our rivals and throw money at our problems without a 2nd thought

Now, the purse strings have tightened, we can't afford to outspend our rivals and there's much more focus on bringing youth players through, hench us refusing to sign a Cesc replacement as we had Ampadu

This hiring and firing of managers simply doesn't work for us now, we need to actually build something and that requires patience

Problem with bringing some youth talents through is we have a manager who believes players are at there best between 27-33.

Loftus-Cheek, Christensen, Hudson-Odoi and Ampadu have played almost 50 games between them and we're just past the half way stage of the season

That's a pretty decent return considering two of them are only 18 and RLC has had injury problems

Sarri has probably given more chances to our youth players than any other manager

50 games is 4,500 minutes...... but why do I get a feeling your "[ these players] have played almost 50 games" is going to be but a mere fraction of those minutes.....

Chalking up 10 minute cameo appearances as "they played that game" isn't really an accurate depiction of the facts in my opinion.

That one can claim Sarri has given more chance to youth players (btw, I don't think we can qualify players who are 23 (RLC) or months away from 23 (Christensen) as "youth players", and then that leaves you only with CHO and Ampadu as youth players under Sarri) than any other manager is quite an indictment............. but I think one can also easily claim no other manager had the youth talent available to Sarri at the same time have the first team regulars perform so poorly....... Or more simply put, even if Sarri has given youth more chances than any other manager, given the circumstances Sarri is in he still should have given even more.

But the structure of the club is out of sync. No manager who comes in next will be successful with this squad in my opinion. This is my issue with the club. There's talk of Zidane possibly being a replacement. It doesn't make sense. I don't see what Zidane would do because Real Madrid have far superior players to us. We don't have any genuine match winners barring Hazard.

Agree. Best case scenario would be a momentary boost in performance, followed by a quick spiral downwards after 1-2 setbacks.

Zidane also quit Real Madrid because he sensed that something was wrong with the squad and felt Perez wasn't backing him to fix those issues. Given how toxic our whole operation is, I don't think he would come within 10km of Cobham.

If we get half a chance of getting Zidane in we should do all we can to give him the job .......Sarri ball will not work with players who are trained from 8 to think and play in 1 meter , 10 meter boxes . His project is total bollocks and only fit for FIFA ...if you have more loses draws than wins maybe you should realize its f*cked .

I think if Sarri is to prove his worth over the next month or two, he needs to go back to basics. Understand the situation that he is in, and put aside his "artistic pride" temporarily. He needs to understand that:

1) Player morale and motivation is at an all time low

2) We have zero defensive confidence. No matter how many men we have at the back, every opponent attack looks like we might concede. (Take a look at the Man City goals, I think we had at least 6 men in the box for 4 of them)

3) The players he currently has, either cannot play his system, or don't have enough confidence in his system to play it

Now is not the time to continue on with Sarriball. If this was a battleship, what's the point of rearranging your weapons configurations, when your hull is full of holes and leaking?

Let's patch up the holes first, and prove that we're capable of keeping a few clean sheets again. Let's stay compact, minimize the space between the lines, and remember what it's like to play an organized, focused defense. Root out the mistakes and instill some confidence and fighting mentality again in this squad.  Don't forget. We still have THE BEST ball winner in modern football (Kante). We have a Top 5 PL CB in Rudiger. We have a Top 5 defensive full back in Azpi (albeit woefully out of form). If we're playing defensive, we have a fighter and leader in Cahill. Christensen is looking to prove himself again. Amapdu is hungry and up for a battle.

On the attacking side of the ball, we still have one of the best attackers in the word in Hazard. We have Higuain who can still finish. We have an exciting young prospect who has pace, can dribble and is hungry.  Give them space on the counter-attack, and we can still score. If Ranieri could do it with Kante, Mahrez and Vardy at Leceister, I'm sure Sarri could manage 1/2 a season of hard-nosed counterattacking football with this lot? Or maybe even just a 1/4 season to get some of our belief back?

If Sarri really does want Sarriball to succeed in the PL, he needs to understand that it might have to wait till next season. Now...it's about survival. His survival, and Chelsea's survival (of a top 4 finish). We've taken a few broadsides consecutively and facing a crew mutiny. But we CAN still come out of this and we're not out of the race yet.

C'mon Sarri! Now's not the time to go down with the ship. You're stuck with this crew till the end of the season. They may not be your idea of perfect, but they still have qualities. REACT to the situation and MANAGE THROUGH!

Agree! This is what keeps doing my head in. He needs to look at the bigger picture, get top 4 and make drastic changes in the summer. He keeps up with this my way only and we will finish 6th place, which will beg the question “have we made any progress?”. With a top 4 he strengthens his hand with the management, able to attract the calibre of players he needs to play his style of football, and will be trusted to manage the team long term.

Wow. It seems the first team is unable to beat our youth team as well. Still hung over from the defeat against City or have they just given up entirely? Now I'm really starting to wonder if anyone can motivate these bunch of players.

Chelsea ‘heavyweights’ in the dressing room do not want Sarri.

Some players have already informed their agents they want transfers in the summer, if Sarri still in charge of the club next season. (AS)

Uh-oh..

Did the same to the last two managers. There's a cancer in that dressing room.

Wouldn't it be great to see this team against Malmø?

             Kepa

Azpi Rudi Luiz Alonso

           Jorginho

     Kante          Kovacic/Barkley

Willian/Pedro                 Hazard

             Higuain

If we are to turn this around I think we need major changes in the lineup. However, with pressure building from all sides he probably realizes Champions League qualification is the only thing that will keep him in his job. Thus, this competition grows in importance and I think he will keep most of his favourites for that reason.

In terms of giving the youth chances, we've all seen this cycle before at Chelsea - a new manager comes in, and chooses to go with the "big" players to get off a good start. It works for a while, then suddenly start failing. When the pressure intensifies, they then choose to continue with experience because they want to get out ot the hole and wont risk playing the youth. Then he's sacked, a new man comes in and repeats the cycle.

I am desperate for youth to be given a chance, but until something changes within the club (realistic expectations, DoF, whatever) we're just going to see this happen time after time. Another by-product of our lack of faith in the youth is the constant, expensive purchases of squad players which eats away at our transfer kitty and hinders us from going after the top talents that we need.

Anyway, I kind of hope he gets to stay to break this cycle, but I have major doubts he has the ability to change anything really, and integrating the youth specifically.

Happy days

And I'm starting to think its name is Hazard.

A guy who has won it all as a player and a manager. Would instantly command respect.

Would be a massive yes from me

3,027 minutes between all 4 players ain't exactly great. Would okay if the players in their positions were doing amazing but our wingers and CB's are our weaknesses. These lads should have played a lot more by now.

In comparison, Alonso has played for 2556 minutes and Willian for 2359 minutes.

There's been 2340 minutes of premier league football so far this season for us and CHO has managed to play 74 minutes, split over 4 appearances... 0.03% of the available minutes.

Christensen has played 180 minutes over 2 appearances, so 0.07% of available minutes behind D.Luiz and Rudiger.

Ampadu hasn't even made it onto the pitch in the league yet.

Loftus Cheek has played 374 minutes, making up 0.15%, however he still only has 1 start. the other minutes came spread over 11 substitute appearances.
