Rated lower that subs Henderson, Tripper and Grealish, even though the latter was a sub who was subbed! Lol, what do you expect from a media that campaigned to get JT kicked out due to their Chelsea hatred.

As a non-English Chelsea fan I hope he is never picked for England ever again tbh. England with Kane upfront are incredibly static and create zero opportunities through the middle.

That's just not right, he was for me the best creator they had up front. Always trying to pass through the lines, getting into the box with danger, and the best foul and corner taker always getting to Maguire's head. As soon as he came off and Foden was on, the corners started not to reach past the first post. He may not have been the best of England's team, though I certainly don't know who I would have picked as MOTM from the team, but whoever thinks Henderson, Trippier or Grealish were better than Mount is deluded, simple as.

Nope never just the mikel fan club.

It is the sad truth. Mount received tons of criticism early in the season. People said he only played because he was Lampard son, he couldn't pass, he couldn't score, bla2 bla2.

Under Tuchel, he was suddenly our poy, the same people who said he was not good enough suddenly think he is world beater, some even say Tuchel improved Mount big time. Tuchel is a very good manager but he is not a magician.

The worst part is that Mount actually played very2 well under Lamp. He kinda played Wijnaldum role, there is no chance you will produce number playing that role unless you are Fabregas or somebody like that.

So I am not surprised that tons of England fans does not rate Mount. Why Mount  when you have sancho, sterling, grealish, etc2. It is the same question that Chelsea fans asked early in the season. Why Mount when you have Jorginho, Kovacic, werner, puli, ziyech,.

I was kind of neutral last night but, as soon as I saw Mount on the ball and trying to do things up front I started cheering for England. I don't know how many English fans don't like him, he's such a non-controversial and likeable character, in addition to a great, honest player (I don't recall Mount diving, trying to cheat or complain to the ref).

Oh well, sod them, he's Chelsea and we know he's going to become one of the best players in the PL, if he is not already one.

Imagine if he drags England through on Sunday while the likes of Kane, Shaw and (if he comes on) Rashford freeze like they have done pretty much every time the medals have been on the line.

Would be hilarious to say the least.

My fear is that he is responsible for a mistake which gives an Italian goal, either directly or indirectly. The hate would be immense.

That unfortunately will likely behold some poor individual if we now don't get over line and a mistake causes it. Thinking back to the penalty shootouts in 1990 and 1996 the nation was a one and we took defeat on the chin with little blame attached. Roll on two years at the beginnings of the 'top 4', following England had started to become more polarised as the bigger teams started to dominate selection. Beckham copped a lot of flak around the grounds for getting himself sent off and as we entered the two thousands fans had a tendency to support their own instead of getting behind the team as a whole.

Gareth knows how important Mason is and that's all that matters, not all the other dimwits with their chelsea agenda's.He is vital for England and Chelsea.

He didn't have a great game, but thought he was the victim of the managers choices tonight.

Absolutely. When you don't press at all and let the opposition just have the ball and when you move it so slowly out of defence you negate the best parts of his game.

Lots will say Southgate set up in the same formation as Tuchel but the key difference is that we were proactive trying to win the ball back and used Mount and Kante as hunters. Tonight Italy were just allowed to pass it around in a square between Chiellini, Bonucci, Jorginho and Veratti. Totally negated any advantage England had in terms of their mobility.

Ah the media blame game has begun. Mason getting lambasted by skysports and given a 4 out of 10.

He wasn't his usual, but he wasn't the worst player, Sterling, Kane, Rice, pretty ineffective...

None of those are Chelsea players though. Had Chilwell and James played they would be numbers 2 and 3 on the hit list.

No he didn't have his best game but a few others didn't as well,I will be honest though I was getting wound up with him trying a few flicks which didn't come of,its OK when your 4-0 up but not at 1-1.

Mount is much better in a high octane counter pressing side which England isn't. He really didn't fit in that Southgate system. Well to be fair it doesn't support his best traits. Southgate played him because he is such a brilliant team player and he covers any player on the field. In terms of attack he did nothing significant in these last two matches.

What he needs to improve is his open player passing. Cut backs especially for him are hard. I don't remember him nailing those recently.

Area to improve on for sure. Fantastic player but he's only got three open play assists in two seasons in the Premier League too.

Agreed. Think he also run more out of steam the longer the tourney went on - having too play that many minutes with good alternatives on the bench after such a long season for him is on Southgate. Same for Sterling as well btw. Last two games he's been quite anonymous for his standards so I can see where the critic is coming from - especially since he had at least a couple of brilliant scenes in the first games at least. But yea, mostly not the player for such a staid and timid approach Southgate mostly went for.
