Declan Rice to Chelsea?

Featured Replies

Plus points: athletic, strong in the tackle, decent passer, young, box to box stamina, reads the game well, shows leadership qualities, should improve hugely with better players along side him.

Minus points: doesn't have much pace, isn't Italian.

What does not being Italian have to do with anything?

We can just rename him Declano Tagliatelle

I would love Rice at chels, just such silly money they are asking for him.

If we have a good enough season I can see us working out a deal for him like we did with Leicester for Chilwell if Frank makes him a priority target.

Somewhere between the 60mill-70mill mark.

Politic made Rice look pretty bad a number times the other day. Tobacco also went by him a number of times. I just don't see Rice as a quality midfielder. He gets beat constantly off the dribble. Besides Chelsea has a a bigger need at CB.

He' an intelligent player similar to Jorginho but he can make a run. I think Lampard's vision for the long term is Rice, Mount, Havertz in the midfield.

Watching Declan against Everton today its easy to see why he is supposedly on our wish list. His awareness of play constantly looking at who is where when without the ball alongside doing the simple stuff well, betrays his tender age of 21. Not the finished article, he is still very much in the learning stage but could be the final piece in our jigsaw.

I am confused.

Kante has looked good this season as soon as he was put in the holding midfield role. What do we need Declan Rice for? So Lampard can move Kante back into a position he can't play properly? We also have Gilmour who looked very good when he got a chance to play.

Rotation and long term, Kante is coming up 30, he can't play forever. And atm, we only have Kante who can offer that engine role in midfield, nobody else can cover the ground he does.

I wonder if the board will go all out for Rice in January, he will certainly improve our chances of securing CL football which seem very unrealistic at the minute.

I think they should.

Otherwise the 4-3-3 might not work at all for the rest of the season.

You would sanction a move for an £80m “defensive midfielder” in this climate, most of other signings haven’t lit up the park, and again a potential £80m DM if you were in charge of the purse strings?

It's all or nothing, the desperate move I know but if Lampard is to succeed then lets give him all the pieces he needs and if not at least because of him we will have a good squad for the future because Rice is going to be an England international for years to come.

I don't think Lampard has earned the Board's backing yet for even more big money spending.  If we were first or second in the league it might be another story. Right now its make do.

I agree certainly not for the fees quoted. I also think he is a good player, but I'm not convinced he transforms us into title contenders. I think longer term he may be a Kante replacement.
