April 23, 20242 yr My top 10 Chelsea centre backs of the Premier League era, in order: 1) John Terry 2) Ricardo Carvalho 3) Thiago Silva 4) Antonio Rudiger 5) Marcel Desailly 6) Gary Cahill 7) Frank Leboeuf 8) David Luiz 9) William Gallas 10) Alex
April 23, 20242 yr Yes, letting Silva go so the others can grow really is a great move 😐 They can't even perform for one game without him in the side.

The same Silva that played the full 90 when we shipped four against City, Newcastle, Liverpool and Wolves? The big miss has actually been Colwill, we average just over one goal a game when he plays and over three a game when he doesn't.

I've read that Pochettino wants to keep him as well ... so maybe tonight's team selection was partially about that ?

I know it's beyond wishful thinking the latter will be fit long enough for this to bear fruit but Levi and Fofana together would be a gamechanger, so annoying.

Yes agreed. We got taken apart tonight, but none of the back 5 (GK + defenders) start if everyone is fit.
April 23, 20242 yr Why would people believe Fofana would be capable of replacing Silva when ( if ) he comes back? He was no elite when we signed up. He basically missed 2 seasons, takes loads of work if not miracle for players to come back to the pre-injury level after a year ( let alone 2) off. Look forward to have him back, but who knows how much he declined after that many injuries.

He has an awkward tackling style where he is constantly fully extending his legs. The pressure he puts on his muscles is intense with every tackle.

April 29, 20242 yr What a bloke, haven't loved a player as much as him in such a short space of time. Hope we can finish the year strongly and give him a positive send off. The club better have a plan for replacing his presence, they already messed up not giving him the captaincy last summer.
April 29, 20242 yr Not a bad word to say about him. Utmost professional. Cared, brought a wealth of experience and always put in his best. Even his best performances when called to question due to age and declining pace were always a level above the rest.
April 29, 20242 yr Didn’t know until now how much I loved the man. Really hope he comes back in some capacity
April 29, 20242 yr He's chosen the right time to move on, but it's still very sad to see the departure of a truly great player. I've loved watching him play for us, and am still in awe of how good he is at the age of 39. All the best, Thiago, and thanks for everything.
April 29, 20242 yr Imagine giving the captaincy to injury prone James and Chilwell ahead of Thiago f*cking Silva. Poch never truly appreciated him. Him and John Terry, the two greatest centre backs to put on the shirt. I really hope he comes back one day.

Poch`s treatment of him is similar to the fat spanish waiters of Terry, both clueless idiots unable to make use of world class players.
April 29, 20242 yr I am in mourning, he's been my favourite player since he joined. What a player, we are so lucky to have had him at the club for 4 seasons. Take a bow, Thiago Silva. Edited April 29, 20242 yr by Valerie
April 29, 20242 yr Sad day, but he leaves with plenty of great memories. One of my favourite Chelsea players and it's only a shame he didn't join us earlier in his career. I've always imagined how formidable our defence would have been with him paired with JT. Edited April 29, 20242 yr by Jezz
