Official Thomas Tuchel *Now Sacked*

All this talk about wanting someone with the same vision as the owners and all that bollocks, seems to me the owners had a new manager lined up the second they come through the door and Tuchel rejected Ronaldo. Clueless idiots running this club.

I agree with the theory that this was probably the plan by the owners all along. I was shocked when I saw this news today, as even the press hadn't really speculated about Tuchel being under pressure. Not uncommon for new owners to want to appoint their own manager. But after backing him, most of us felt us though he would be given at least half a season. Clearly things weren't right in the squad, and it will be interesting to know if certain players influenced the decision, or whether the owners had a fundamental disagreement with Tuchel. Like you say maybe there was more to the whole Ronaldo disagreement.

We hadn't made a good start this season, and the back end of last season the football was poor. But Tuchel had to operate in unprecedented conditions during that time. He always struck me a decent bloke and I am very sad to see him leave.

Any fan that thinks right now is the best time to sack Tuchel has completely lost their minds. You can dislike him as a coach all you like, but can you honestly say right now is the time to part ways? Are you not at least a little concerned about the handling of the club since Boehly came in? He's sacked pretty much all of the important people involved in the club, throws money around with what seems like little care for how this will effect us in the future with FFP, directly involves Tuchel in every single transfer and then throws him 5 days after the window closes. Does this look like somebody in control and knows what he is doing?

Also, Pochetino? where are your standards? Haven't we already been through this with Benitez?

They will look clueless under the next manager too. Just like they did under Lampard, just like they did under Sarri, just like they did under Conte and just like they did under Mourinho.

The players downed tools under Mourinho, the only difference now and under Sarri was Hazard was carrying the team, Lampard couldn't sort out the defence and Conte was a one formation manager who wanted everything his own way.

I'd probably prefer Zidane. Then Potter. Then Poch. In that order. We want to change our style. If so, then we need a brand new philosophy and stick to it. It's obvious at this point most fans want to be entertained while getting results, which is easier said than done. We need a clear cut philosophy going forward though.

Bit of a stretch, to say they all looked clueless under those managers, quite a lot of them weren’t even playing under Mourinho, Conte etc..
- Lampard had a bad 2 months which cost him.

- Conte lost the dressing room as did Mourinho particularly around Eva etc.

- And as much as I reallyyyy disliked Sarri’s style of play at least there was a style of play.

We have been turgid to watch since before April. I do agree it’s bizarre to have backed him so heavily in the transfer market to then sack him a few days after it closes - that does concern me. However, this isn’t just this season, we’ve been pretty horrible to watch under his entire tenure.

Firstly, to those who are sad, upset, surprised, angry - I feel for you. Sorry that you are going through something that will be hard to stomach for many…

I tried (and succeeded!)to keep off here last night after the joyless and lifeless defeat to Zagreb. I had nothing to say that has not been said by me, @dkw@Scott Harrisand countless others on multiple different times over the last year. But I could not keep off now…

The reality is that Tuchel took a team that won the champions league, and for whatever reason, some (perhaps even most?) of which was certainly out of his control, destroyed it. As a manager of a top team, you live and die by your decisions, and Tuchels decision to stick with the dour, safety first approach, that not only bored fans, but also killed any creativity we had in it.

I am astounded by the timing, having just apparently backed him in the transfer market - which makes me think there is more than meets the eye.

But aside from the timing, I am not shocked, or surprised, and feel it is probably on balance the right decision. I accept that may not be popular, but this stinks of Jose mk2. A high profile incident (Eva vs Handshake), dour and lifeless football, a refusal to change the style and instead say the system is not the problem (simply putting the blame on the players - yet continuing to select them)..

I thank Tuchel for making us European and World Champions….he has his place in history. I will not miss the ultra defensive, ultra negative, ultra low risk football he brought to the table.

But looking forward, I have hope. We ARE a good team. Look how awesome we looked against Juve, against Madrid (2nd leg), against spurs this season….When the players are allowed to play with the handbrake off, then we ARE top class. Unfortunately, we did not do it (or were not allowed to do it) often enough.

It's sad, really. I enjoyed Tommy as a manager. Could see his passion for the game. Unfortunate that the players have been playing poorly, but someone has to take the blame. Can't wait to see him reunite with Timo at Leipzig LOL.  Onto the next interim manager..

It seems this guy knew.

Based on some of the other tweets I have seen, it sounds like this was planned weeks ago. Almost certainly some of the players knew something was up too, and that would explain the particularly disjointed performances recently.

Potter isn’t the answer tell you that for nothing. Another AVB in the making. How is potter going to change these players in 6 months?, fighting on Four fronts. Kante injured, yeah this is not going to go well.

AVB had never managed in the PL and it showed.

By some accounts tuchel didn't want to be backed in the transfer market. He was frustrated he was being involved in it and wanted others to make those calls.

Which is interesting, goes against what many armchair pundits think a manager always wants.

you realize that these games were under Tuchel and showed how good the team can actually play do you? He always looked good against the Top teams because there is more space and therefore the players can shine because they are all players that need the space. When Tuchel came here, the other teams started to just park the bus because otherwise a loss was nearly certain. The only problem is against a side that sids so deep its very hard to create if you don't have the right players that can win the one and ones. I know Pep or Klopp have them, I don't see them here at Chelsea tbh. So its down to the players and not on Tuchel. It is a shame really, this was a good match. Sadly Boehly seems not to be a smart men.

Do you know whats more f**ked up, we probable go on to win a big competition then go on a bad run manager gets sacked rinse and repeat!!!

Sounds good to me. A CL win beats poncing about in sixth and blabbering on about a 'transition period' every time we play crap and/or lose for the next five years.

Surprised to wake up to this.

I did call it last night however. When a manager resorts to swing it wide and pray to Allah, its the beginning of the end.

So now no manager and no DoF. Fantastic.

This is an excellent post.

A very balanced and nuanced analysis of the situation.

I will keep saying it, but unless we have a legit goalscorer then we'll struggle. Aubameyang MAY be that guy, but if he doesn't turn out to be effective, we are buggered. All the top teams have at least one good goalscorer - some have two like Tottenham and Liverpool.  This is why, if we can maintain good progress over the next couple months, we need to go into January and look at a mid and another attacker. Alvarez and Toney would be my ideal signings in Jan if they can be got.
