And Tuchel's tactical switches are brilliant. Nobody mentions our formation yesterday. We attached with a back 4 and defended as a back 5 and we completely nullified Spurs. Our attack lets us down time and again. Get a proper number 9 and a top midfielder and we will be competing with Pool and City. Unfortunately a bent ref cost us the game yesterday. Side note: I was very impressed how Tuchel has rejuvenated RLC. I wasn't expecting much from him yesterday but he looked great in his RWB role. I'd say we should have scored 3 yesterday, and conceded one. So we slightly underperformed in attack, but shouldn't have conceded 2 goals. It was unfortunate but Jesus Christ I loved the football, the passion, and I hope we see it in every game now. 90% of my worries about this season have been calmed down. I'd have bitten your hand off for 4 points and that performance against spurs when the season started. If we make a couple more signings, then we can definitely push towards the top 2 this season.

August 15, 20223 yr I was too angry to post yesterday, absolutely shocking performance from the officials. Tuchel was 10/10 for me yesterday, tactically he absolutely dominated Conte for 60 minutes, then Spurs switched to 4231 and had a decent 5-10 minutes. Tuchel responded though, moved RLC into midfield with Kante, and went super aggresive with the press again, and we retook the lead, and really shouldve been 3 or 4-1 up going into stoppage time. Then he stands his ground and goes toe to toe with Conte who is one of the most fiery characters in football. To finish things off, he calls out the absolute ineptitude of Anthony Taylor, and 3 awful calls that robbed us from all 3 points. Probably my favourite Chelsea manager, I think he overtakes Jose now for me. The way he has dealt with these last 6 months is testament to his character. Hopefully we get the signings right over the next 12 months, and we can see him taking it to City and Liverpool, because if anyone can compete with them, its Tuchel who clearly has the appetite to fight for everything.

On the face of it yes but now that Taylor's record with us is now (finally) very much in public domain I think they'll be pressure to stop giving him our matches. He won't be officially banned from taking charge of our games but when Southampton complained about Lee Mason he never had one of their games again, hopefully this is a similar case.
August 15, 20223 yr How does Anthony Taylor keep getting decisions wrong. It's not just him, but his VAR team too. Like wtf, it doesn't make sense. I don't think there's an agenda, but he's made too many decisions at this point that has affected our games negatively, it wouldn't be a good idea to have him in charge of future games.

If you set any stall in all the xG stats stuff (like many folk do), then it was actually a lot closer than that ... 1.83 (us) vs 1.59 (Spurs) so in terms of how understat saw the game, 2-2 was about right, albeit it certainly didn't feel like that when watching the game ! https://understat.com/match/18220

One of the issues with xG is that it's reliant on a shot being taken and often we work it into great positions and don't get a shot off. Spurs at 1.59 is surprising though as they never really had any clear cut chances and we missed 2 sitters. Plus Reece James is scoring from that position 9 times out of 10 so it should have been a .9 alone for that goal 😁

I just don't understand how the hair pull isn't violent conduct and a red. Violent conduct is often a grey area. But if a policeman saw you do that in the street, would you get arrested. And in this instance, 100%.

We really didn't create much. We dominated the midfield and anyone watching could tell we were all over them and they couldn't get out. But we didn't actually create too much or force Lloris into doing anything. It was a perfect performance in terms of intensity, aggression, tactics and work ethic but a pretty low quality performance in regards to what we actually did with the ball in the final third once we won it off spurs so agressively.
August 15, 20223 yr It’s games like this one and Liverpool that we tend to do well under Tuchel. It’s the Leeds next week and that type of teams where we look lost and shockingly slow. So let’s hope that the team keeps the momentum and level of energy. I look forward to next Sunday’s trip to Leeds and I hope that we’re not disappointed.

Everton, Leeds, Brentford, Villa etc happens too often.
August 15, 20223 yr I find it hard to believe that after watching a performance like yesterday some people will still insist that the manager is the problem
August 15, 20223 yr Absolute Chelsea @AbsoluteChelsea #Chelsea have opened talks with Thomas Tuchel about adding a further two seasons to his contract. [via @andydillon70] 11:28 PM · Aug 15, 2022 2026! Edited August 15, 20223 yr by azpi28
August 15, 20223 yr Amazing to think that the club had doubts about appointing him and it was Marina that pushed for him. His fallout from Dortmund and PSG seemed to go against him. Sign him up!

August 16, 20223 yr Let's hope he push the lads on to perform like yesterday for games to come. Be really annoying if go back to possession hoarding against Leeds on Sunday.

It is not something to hang your hat on in certain contexts. E.g RLC had a great chance for the header but missed the ball completely so the contribution to XG is 0. All you need to consider is this: Spurs had one great chance - Kane shooting wide. For us, Mason had a few good ones, Sterling, Kai, James, and Ruben should have scored.
