if not him who?

I’m not a scout and I don’t even watch a lot of football these days, but surely the club employ someone somewhere that is paid for their skill of spotting talent in the leagues around the world?

It’s more politics in a way for me, but buying a player they have made very clear they don’t want (and haven’t used much for a while) is embarrassing. It’s apparent to me that no City fan is remotely disappointed that he is leaving or that he is signing for us. Same for Arsenal signing Jesus.

And he isn’t going to make us title challengers, so is it worth it anyway? There must be better value and cringe free signings out there somewhere?

He still managed 13 goals and 5 assists, despite being 2nd choice. What did Havertz, Pulisic, Timo, CHO, Ziyech get?

They are all poor, no doubt, but I’d be interested to know the detail on the stats you’ve given.

City regularly ran up cricket scores, so is it possible that Stirling got a few of those goals as last 20 minute substitute adding a third or fourth or fifth when the game was done and dusted as a contest?

Well he was used often, just rotated a lot more than he was used to. Either way, there is no doubt about it, City are ahead of us right now. They have just bought Haaland and Alvarez on top of what they already have so Sterling is wanting to go to a team where is starting predominantly. I think if anything, he made clear to City, he will not be signing a new deal rather than not offering him a new one. I don't see why people are not happy at this. He is in his prime, knows the league, rarely injured and will scare the life out of defenders with his pace and dribbling ability.

P.S Watch Jorginho get more penalties also.

I'm on board with this signing.

He has a knack of getting goals, has pace that will trouble defenders and just as important for me is that he is direct and willing to take his man on.

We need someone a bit unpredictable to trouble those teams who sit deep against us waiting for us to do our normal predictable stuff.

He's also better than a lot of what we've got at the moment.

I don't think we have the structure in place to find hidden gems yet so while that gets refined over the next few months for me the next best thing is getting premier league proven players and giving players like Gallagher and Colwill a chance.

I think people who doubt Raheem are in for a pleasant surprise. He's proven it's not just under Pep he can thrive, he looked good under Brendan who's also a good coach but more importantly he carried his nation in the Euros. If he can play well under Southgate he can play well under Tuchel.

In fact anyone and this isn't aimed at this forum but cfc fans in general who claim he can't play the system of 3atb if they have watched England recently we play anything between 3 and 4 atb. So he most certainly can play as an inside forward in a 3 or part of a front 2.

City spend £50m+ on almost every player they buy, they have all these world class players but only so many of them are going to be happy to be a rotation player. Let's be honest, a City rotation player is still better than most players we could go for.

I've said this before but we were all buzzing when we've raided the Bundesliga and they've all massively disappointed. A tried and tested premier league goal scorer is a much lower risk than someone like Nkunku for example.

For me its a bit of a deflating (potential) signing.

To think we once were snapping up Fabregas, Costa, Hazard, etc.... and now "Raheem Sterling", its the kind of signing West Ham would make! It's quite a reminder that Roman has gone now.

Still, any signing at the moment is welcome or we might have to borrow some of the womens team next season.

I think he compliments Havertz perfectly as a false 9 and dare I say Callum as the opposite winger aswell (he'll get the goals Callum won't and the latter's creativity will be perfect for him).

Not that we'll see that front line every game as Mount doesn't deserve to be dropped but with the insane schedule next year they'll be plenty of room for rotation.

He will be a disaster of a signing, if it goes through. We will all be just as frustrated with him come the end of next season, as we are with Werner. You can quote me on that.

We only got Fabregas because Barca had no room for him (and this was when Xavi was past his best) and Wenger said no to a reunion.

I wasn't here at that time but where i was was opinions were very mixed.

23,25,31,14,17 goals in the past 5 seasons whilst playing LW, I think he's incredibly underrated for his price tag to be honest. Not to mention he was by far England's best player at the Euros in a 343 system.

Think a lot of the negative media coverage he has gotten over the years has overshadowed how good of a player he actually is

Mount absolutely deserves to be dropped.

Into midfield.

Mount as a Winger Just doesn't do it for me, he doesn't suit the position at all and we suffer from none of our wingers being able to dribble at pace. he only plays there because he's immensely more talented than the dross wingers we have.

But if we sign at least 2 new wingers and don't sign a million centre backs this summer and move to a  4-3-3 I'd like to see Mount in the most advanced midfield role rather than on the wing.

In a 433 I'd agree CM was his best position but in this formation he offers the flexibility to have us seamlessly switch between a 343, 3412 and 352 in game.

Com'on. It's gonna be great. Turbo Timo and Raheem Rapid up front. It's a nailed on goal-fest pairing if ever I've seen one.

Ugh. Waste of money. He'll be no better than what we have, dribbling into blind alleys, wasting chances. Plus doesn't he hate us anyway, after he claimed he was racially abused by a fan a while ago? Strange transfer in many regards.

Should have saved the money and gone for this guy. Back me up @Valerie and @Munkworth

Add to that like Rooney he started his top flight career really early, at 17. So whereas he is 27 he has the miles on him like a 31 year old already.

This is going to happen I feel and I kind of hate it. There has been players I have disliked that have joined us that I ended up liking, but it will be really REALLY hard for me to like Sterling. He's been right near the top of most unlikeable players for most of the past decade. I didn't even dislike Fabregas as much as I dislike Sterling. At least with Fabregas you knew for sure that you were getting a world class talent, but Sterling is a frustrating player and a massive twat on top of it. He's a stat player, the type of player where people just look at the stats and think he is brilliant. The bloke drives me mad when I watch him for England because he has this crazy ability to make the simple things look difficult. He is also the kind of player that can look like absolute sh*t and still score a goal though.

I also agree with @axman2526 that he is the kind of player you sign as a final piece of the jigsaw, and our jigsaw is still missing a few pieces.

Although not the signing I envisaged at the start of the  window I can see that Sterling  is a proven pl performer for quite a few years and probably has a bit left in  him for a season or two. Makele was a hand me down.
