Marc Cucurella

I would like us to get him, but we're winning this, if we are winning this, because we're paying over the top.

50m for Cucurella seems reasonable.

We paid them same for Chilwell and I felt Cucurella looked far better at Brighton than Chilwell did at Leicester.

Wan Bissaka went for 50m,  Maguire for 80,  Ben White for 50, Ake for 40

Buying from other prem clubs isn't cheap but Cucurella looked head and shoulders above all of them.

Apart from your annoying constant trash talk about Pulisic, you do actually post reasonable, sensible stuff.

TBH, I am shocked that City aren't pursuing this deal. Walker is getting on and is injury prone. Cucurella will fit their LB spot for years to come and suits their football style perfectly. They spent £100m on Grealish, over £40m on Phillips who doesn't get in their best team. £40m on Ake who they did not need and will end up playing LB a lot next season when they get injuries. Cucurella for £50m is a deal. Their loss honestly.

To each their own then. I see a window where we are scampering for players with no real solid plan in place.

Also, ignore function works mate. Give it a try.

I’m not going to put you on ignore just because I disagree with you.

This is the first window in years that we’ve actually been linked with multiple big name players, 2 of which we signed quite early. Of course there’s going to be other, bigger clubs in for these players.

You’re acting like we are signing Drinkwater and Zappacosta again. Those were panic buys. Chelsea are trying to make big deals for high quality players, and no matter what you might think, these deals are complicated and competitive. We still beat Bayern and the Spanish clubs for Sterling and Barca for Koulibaly. No plan though.

Still don’t get where Koulibaly will play if we sign Cucurella

as a RCB? isn't he right footed?

I don't think Cucurella would play primarily as a CB. Alonso will be probably be leaving so we need a LB/LWB. I would be surprised if we didn't bring in one more CB after a potential Cucurella transfer.

Where I hope we can get to is to have a scouting department that recommends Marc Cucurella at the point we can buy him from Getafe for £15M, rather than 1 year later from Brighton and having to pay £50M

We do and did but we sold them all.

De Bruyne, Sala, Lukaku and so on.

We need players to gain EPL experience and show they can do it but we need proven class in our starting 11 so it's very unlikely a player like him would have got to where he is had we bought him from Getafe.

Quality LB, Brighton's best player everytime I watch them play. I assume he will be competing with Chiwell for the LWB, so that's 100Ms of strength on LWB, can't think of any other team spend so much on this position.

he will probably play games as a LCB but when we rotate the team it's a big benefit to have a quality wingback on the bench especially since we have 5 subs available. If you can bring on a fresh Cucurella or Chilwell in the last quarter of the game that will provide the team with an injection of energy down that left side.

another thing that i personally like about having 2 quality attacking wingbacks is that when we play in big games, and have to protect a lead, we can play one of them as a sort of defensive minded left winger. They will have the defensive quality & the stamina to press the opponent and defend but also the speed and technical ability to be involved in counter attacks.

didn't Man City spend more on their defence than some countries spend on their entire military?

Interesting video of when he played LCB against us, maybe this is where Tuchel envisions him playing for us?

i like how he puts the ball in the box from deep, we hardly seem to do that

Just need somebody with height who knows how to head the ball, those deep crosses look really dangerous and obviously one led to a goal there. He looks really fast and energetic too, something we sorely miss at times.

Work in progress for Marc Cucurella deal. Chelsea are on it on both club and player side, waiting to complete full agreement with Brighton. Deal well advanced. 🚨🔵 #CFC

No issues on player side. Man City confirm they have no intention to improve their £40m bid.

@FabrizoRomano

So how much money do our new owners have to spend and how will they comply with FFP. Unlike City and PSG we cannot bribe our way around that?

If this was 2003 again, Roman's bottomless pockets and no FFP I would say great, Buy Cucurella, Buy Fofana, buy Dumfries, buy De Jong so we have great depth, so we can play James and Cucurella as wide CBs who can destroy Pulis and Big Sam like defences teaming with Chilwell, Dumfries, Sterling and Mount down the sides, or can have a solid back 3 of Koulibaly,  Silva and Fofana for City and Pool.

We are not that club anymore though.

Surprised City hasn't gone all out for him, it's their lose our gain if we pull this off. A much better defender than Alonso, same level with Chiwell in attack, absolutely crucial to Tuchel's 343. Even if we play 433, he'd slot in comfortably.

Well the debt is cleared for starters, and we are allowed to spend a certain amount within a 3 year period (assuming that’s where the 200m reported sum came from for the first year). Commercial deals and infrastructure is what I’m banking Boehly on utilising in the future to increase our expenditure.

That will be Tom Glicks department I would guess then.

Will see then, some of the Twitter media types say we are done messing about trying to sign defenders, so if they are right this time I expect a 50mill bid on Brightons table and an 85mill one on Leicester and both Cucurella and Fofana holding up our shirts by Friday.

If last season taught us anything (and it taught us a lot!), the effectiveness of TTs system is dependent on wing backs that have a serious engine and can overlap to get in behind.
I guess Odoi is the backup right and better in that role than Dave.

I am not sure It taught us about our dependent on wing backs.

I think It taught us we can't expect some player to offer us more.
