Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

Too much noise for him to not have a thread to himself.

I'll leave you with this thought.

Howard Wilkinson was the last English manager to win the top flight in England over 30 years ago.

If Potter comes in, knowing the perpetual nature of the job, will this affect his chances of managing to his full extent, like he has been able to achieve at BHA ?

What even is managing to his full extent? Brighton have had a good first 6 games that's about it. I really stuggle to see what everyone else seems to in him

Able to manage the team, despite being mid table.

I'd prefer Potter to Poch, I know that much for sure. It feels like that would be a longer term project though so whether or not the board or the fans have the patience for that we shall see.

I do half feel that because he will be the first appointed manager of the Boehly era that they will be willing to give him a bit of time

As I and others have said in the Tuchel thread, will be interesting to see how he copes playing against a low block most of the time. A challenge which he does not currently face at Brighton.

I'm not sold on him.  I would rather get someone who has experience managing a big club.

I think taking a small to medium sized club and overperforming expectations is a entirely different skill set than leading a big club to trophies.

He's a very talented coach, maybe he can bring in the Brighton recruitment team as well because they always do good business

32% win rate. Where does this talented come from. I just dont get it. Feels like we are clutching at straws. IF its true its nothing but a Yes man appointment by the owners. Its a f**king joke.

Even though I'm against the Potter recruitment, 32% win rate isn't bad for a small club in the premier league tbf. But then again that also might just be me looking for silver linings

winning 1 out of 3 with Brighton isn't bad at all

Potter plays same negative formation as Tuchel 5231. Brighton were amongst lowest scoring teams last season. Hes just a poor mans Tuchel. Dont know if he can handle big players. Would be a really bad decision!

Media hyping him up becuase he's English unfortunately. I'll back him if he comes but even Ole would be better qualified to take the job

I don't think any further words are necessary !

dkw probably salivating at that home form LOL

Good timing for us to get Potter in ahead of our 7th game of the season.

Should give us time to adapt to his methods before our first win in week 19.

I’d rather Potter than Poch.

I think comparing Brighton & Chelsea isn’t a fair comparison as they live in different worlds and despite what our recent performances have suggested we have better players so judging how he’s done at Brighton is difficult, if not impossible.

I’m assuming they have done their research and have a good reason of why they are interviewing him.

Personally, I find it refreshing for us to go after another Premier League manager who’s familiar with the culture, speed and physicality of the EPL rather than looking abroad at the same old candidates like Allegri etc…

Perhaps they could have done their research and interviewed him a month ago to find out what players he wanted this summer if they were looking to change manager.

Nothing Boehly has done since the day he bought the club has suggested he's done his research or has any kind of coherent plan.

Nearly 300m spent on players pretty much scouted by and selected by a manager only for him to be sacked as soon as the window closes with no idea if the new manager would want them.

Would Potter have wanted any of the players we signed? Other than Cucurella, we know Potter can get great performances out of Marc.

Fair points.

Maybe it’s the last week that’s put that final straw on the camels back.

Southampton, West Ham and last night games could of easily swayed their decision.
