Nicolas Jackson - striker

Featured Replies

He's not the finished product with 1 season behind him and only 21. The expectation is the issue, when people start comparing him to Drogba, who's 26 and a proven player when he joined us.

Again, it's going back to our recruitment model, we buy 21 year olds with potentials just like a NBA draft. A lot of them need time to learn, and in this tough league you don't have the luxury of time, especially in a team without experienced leaders.

I like Jackson but I think he would have benefitted with an experience striker in the squad..

I like his hold up and link up.. the reason he is not scoring is that his runs are too straight right now.. for a striker the fact that he is never offside is concerning for me too.

he needs to learn to curve his runs and take a position that is by the side of the fender and not always in front .

We just need to get Nkunku back 😁😁

Least of his problems, I think. His running and linking up is admirable. His touch, especially in the 6 yard box, is the problem. Should have had 3 yesterday. Twice the ball was passed to his feet in the box - once from Sterling, I forget the other source - and he couldn't react quickly enough or sort out his feet. Like he had divers' boots on. What should have been his third, skied over the bar late on, was emblematic. In an earlier game, I forget against whom, he had a fresh air shot from close range from a Sterling set up. He's young, he's inexperienced, he works hard, but he has to work on his technique.

He did well. Sometimes takes a touch too many but he and Sterling needed more support in attack. One thing that is annoying me about Jackson is his petulancy. That is already 3 yellow cards from 4 games right? 2 of those for doing the waving imaginary card. Not necessary. 2 more and he has a suspension. That being said, Boehly imo should have bought another striker to complement him. Especially with letting Lukaku and Aubameyang go.

He already has 6 big chances missed in 4 matches. Think he will do better with a player to link up with.

He will do better when he develops composure and technique in the 6 yard box.

I remember we all said Salah was poor when he was the same age. Look how that turned out. Expecting him to be the complete package after a few games in a new league, new system etc is a bit mad.

I don't expect him to be the full package. I do however expect him to hit the target from 6 yards, cut out the airshots and be able to get his feet into the right position to shoot.

Reminds me a bit of Abraham...

Is he the one?

I don't think so.

Falls over less than Tammy. Also throws his arms in the air less. Lets see if he also scores less.

Stronger, faster, better link up play, better hold up play and quicker feet than Tammy. Not as good a finisher though.

That's the problem. Run, link up all you like, but the primary role is in the box, the 6 yard box especially. He has flubbed at least 4 in the 6 yard box alone.

Fantastic footballer, just needs to finish the sitters

Can't be worse than the generational talent we sold to the Goonies this summer... who has continued his rich vein of form of hitting the back of the stands rather than net.

Nicky will start scoring soon enough, we just need to be patient with him cause everything else he's doing good.

Been our worst performer by a long way in the last 2 games.

Ultimately he's the guy that last season was considered the worst attacking player in La Liga and apparently a massive fan poll put him as the worst player in the league.

He hit great form at the end of the season but it was 1 good month,  not enough to tell if it was a purple patch or a genuine breakthrough.  Looking more like the former so far.

He needs time but Boehly and Co should be forced out for thinking it was reasonable to spend a billion and go into the season with Jackson as our only fit striker.

Dreadful performance but what I will say is at least he is making the right runs and getting chances in the first place. He just needs a goal or two to calm things down.
