César 'Dave' Azpilicueta

Featured Replies

Azpilicueta for me was the perfect Chelsea player professional, committed and very good at what he does.  I'd be happy with at team of 11 Azpis, we maybe terrible in front of goal (what's new), but knowing that we would get 100% every game on no histrionics would make me content.

Cesar Azpilicueta is and always will be a Chelsea legend in my opinion.  Thanks for your service Dave.

The consummate professional, and have the utmost respect for him. I hope (and am confident) we’ll see him back at Chelsea one day.

Until then, we’ll be watching and wish you well, and there is no better parting for now than

We’ll just call you Legend

One of the few players that you were proud represented your club. Genuinely gave everything, played in about six different positions without complaining, and won every trophy going. This is the guy who was our captain when we became world champions for the first time. f**king love Dave.

P.S. Delighted that I was there to see this corker:

We'll not see his kind again I fear. Football has become like the rest of life, all abut me. With the passing of time our Dave just grows in legend status. He is a warrior plain and simple.

Assuming he gets an actual chance, I have high hopes for Andrey Santos as the sort of "team" player that the fans can build a relationship with.

He was certainly in the mould of 'old school'. A player you just knew that, even if not having the greatest game, would battle for every tackle, every header and every point. It's a spirit that's so limited in our current squad.

Players like Azpilicueta, Terry, Essien, Kante, Drogba, Makelele, Lampard, Carvalho, Ferreira, Duff etc (and further back , before we won titles, like Zola, Ferrer, Wise, Speedie, Dixon, Clarke, ..then we go further back to a whole different era of football) . These are warriors on the pitch. Not all necessarily warriors in terms of being hard, but warriors in terms of never giving up, never strolling off the field as if it was just turning up to do a job and get paid.

I don't see much of that in this squad, nor have I seen it for a number of years.

I can think of one:
